What our customers say about their holidays
A - Verified booking
We have enjoyed many holidays in The Coach House, and many other NTS properties.
This is the first time, we have booked with Sykes holidays. We were very excitedâ¦.new kitchen, furniture etcâ¦â¦â¦but, there it ended! Walked in and house was cold, checked the boiler it said room thermostat or boiler was off, tried turning the timer all on then all off, no change, could not find a room thermostat, or instructions for the timer, eventually found tiny switch in certre of timer that was the boiler control! Kitchen, toaster full of crumbs, bins dirty, with bags that didnât fit, dirty dustpan, crumbs in the cutlery drawer, cooker hood, covered with grease, and dirty oven tray in the oven that made the oven smell, rusty microwave. I would love to be able to attach photo's. Sitting room, dodgy lamp shade, kept falling off, because of incorrect/ lack of fittings fittings. Sofa and chairs, cushions have never been removed, dust and crumbs under all. Main bedroom, squeaky bed, itâs become a joke! Twin room, new mattress on top of old, no mattress cover. Later found it on the floor in the cupboard. Single room, old mattress under the bed. Cupboard with vacuum cleaner etc, a shambles. The duvet covers didnât fit the duvets, neither did the sheets fit the beds. One towel per person for a week, and only two hand towels for 5 people including WC, bathroom and Kitchen! Pity the stand for airing/ drying towel's in the bathroom had been removed. Guests are asked not to arrive before 17:00 and leave before 10:00, your cleaners turned up at 9:20 for access, they did ask if we needed help to carry the bags down, we said no and they waited in their vehicle until we left. We also had emails from Sykes Cottages asking to leave the Coach House as we found it, but after taking the trouble to clean the property to a reasonable standard we did not feel we should put all the filth back All in all, disappointing.

A nice property in a quiet location and great for exploring Glasgow and surroundings.
Sadly the cleanliness was poor, little evidence of cleaning on arrival let alone a COVID clean/preparation for guests (I note that bed sheets and towels were fine!), all surfaces were dirty and fridge/microwave/oven all poor. Resolved with a pack of Dettol wipes, though the cleaners were called back to the property during our stay to clean. TV lacking terrestrial channels and Virgin media box not working (was provided with a Roku box after a couple of days to get basic channels). No COVID cleaning/sanitiser and check in info as advised in Sykes emails running up to our arrival. Regarding the property⦠Sadly there is no private lawn with patio furniture as described, though we were offered access to the NTS Holmwood House walled garden/patio with picnic tables including whilst the house was closed. Parking at rear is on the NTS house car park (we were told we could park at the front of house as the house was closed during the week). Feels like with a âbetween guestâ inspection of the property would resolve many of the basic issues. Also, the description on the web site would benefit from a review for accuracy including the above points, plus the description⦠upstairs (where you enter the property from the external staircase) is the master bedroom (with very creaky bed as as commented on by previous reviewer!), family bathroom, kitchen and lounge diner, downstairs is the twin and single bedrooms and further toilet. Property would also benefit from a welcome pack advising on facilities and property. I. Itâs we did reach out to the NTS house manager and volunteer staff who were friendly and helpful in resolving some of the issues, and I left an email with the manager with a couple of items that need resolving for future guests comfort.

In short we loved our stay at Braeface Cottage.
Returned home from a week of relaxation, peace and quite, just what the doctor ordered, staying at the Braeface Cottage. Rob and Lynne are very welcoming and and helpful, giving advice, information on where to go and places to take your dog. A welcome pack is provided just to help you settle in along with a number of basic items, milk for example. Rob and Lynne even provide towels for your dog and throws for the furniture. Rob called shortly after our arrival and talked us through the use of various items, tv, heating etc. Our dog Lara enjoyed the enclosed gardens, which gave us peace of mind while she was out exploring. The accommodation was very comfortable with just about everything you will need for your stay. Loved the big and very comfortable beds. My wife wanted to take the kitchen home only thing missing was a dryer. The property is well located for trips to Glasgow, Edinburgh and Sterling withe the Kelpies and Falkirk Wheel within easy reach. We did have a couple of minor issues, not enough to spoil our break, but on reporting these to Rob, these were addressed almost immediately. Yes we would recommend Braeface Cottage as a place to stay, and we are looking to rebook. Graham & Chrissie

Lovely cottage.
Very clean. Ideal for visiting kelpies (25mins away) and other local attractions eg loch Lomond approx just over an hour. Property is comfortable with plenty of logs for the fire. Bathroom did not have a lock on the door but I mentioned this to the owner as a suggestion and she said it would be done that very day so they take on board any comments for improvements. I did take my one year old cocker spaniel but unlike some of the other reviews that say it's very safe in the garden for dogs I personally didn't feel it was safe enough to allow her off lead due to very low fences and gate at the front and large gaps under the side fence at the front. Her recall outside is fairly good but I just would not risk it. This comment is not meant as a criticism merely for information if you have a young dog or an escape artist dog... The owners do provide dog towels, dog bed, bowl and sofa covers so that was all great. Overall we had a lovely stay. Thank you.

When we entered the cottage, we were really impressed at the size and also the decoration.
The kitchen extension was breathtaking and we immediately knew we would be having a wonderful week. Rob popped in a few times to make sure we knew how to use the heating and show us other things we needed to know He also kept in touch by text and his personal touch was the perfect start to our break. A lovely host. The enclosed garden at the front and back of the cottage have us peace of mind to let harry wander about safely. He instantly adapted to his new home and the comfortable, warm , cosy interior was a major factor in this. Lazy mornings were followed by afternoon adventures to different destinations , e.g the kelpies. All this was ended by quiet, cosy evenings in our beautiful cottage. As 25 year veterans of pet friendly holidays all over Scotland and North England, We can heartily recommend staying at Braeface Cottage. You won't be dissapointed
