What our customers say about their holidays

  • Mr Alyn Roberts - Verified booking

I never usually write reviews as one person's view is not generally shared by all, however, I felt compelled to in this instance.

We booked this lodge due to overseas holidays being extremely expensive by comparison and right from booking with Lake District Lodge Holidays this has been by far the best, most friendly, most accommodating experience I have ever encountered. The staff are so friendly and in my opinion go above and beyond to achieve customer satisfaction. We had booked a different lodge to accommodate 4 people, however, due to one of our party not being able to come we asked if we could bring others and bring a put up bed as there would now be additional people. Whilst we appreciated it was a 4 person lodge we were happy to rough it in a put up bed, however, the staff at Lake District Lodge Holidays quickly found an alternative in Sheffield Pike and switched our booking with our consent. On the day of arrival we were stunned at the tranquility and the setting of the park and instantly knew this boded well for a much needed break. Upon checking in and making our way to the lodge we passed several other beautiful lodges and were encouraged as to what we may be able to expect. My wife and my sister-in-law were the first ones to enter the lodge and whilst I was unloading the car they re-emerged with beaming smiles. I simply could not wait to experience what they had just experienced and made my way in. My only words are Wow. The Lodge far exceeded anything I could have ever imagined! Considering this is somebody's actual asset/holiday home it felt like it was also my home. The cleanliness was second to none, the personal touches and possessions the owner has put in this lodge are beautiful and stylish and the lodge was also well equipped enabling us to instantly unwind and enjoy our stay. We had 2 dogs amongst our party, a labrador and a spaniel and whilst the lodge only accepted one dog, Lake District Lodge holidays consulted the owner and we were ecstatic to learn due to the breed the owner was happy for us to take the dogs. Our dogs are fully house trained and instantly seemed at home in the lodge and slept with ease. Mind you I guess that could be in part to the amount of walking that we accomplished. The rules of the lodge stipulated dogs are not allowed on any of the furniture and we and they respected that and it is a fair request given other people would want to experience the same luxurious stay that we did. I would like to thank Lake District Lodge Holidays and the owner personally for allowing us to create some wonderful memories. I have already looked to see if I could book next year but it is fully booked :-( What did you enjoy most about your stay? The quality of the lodges fixtures, fittings and the cleanliness. What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests? I personally like skelwith bridge to elterwater

  • Mrs Fiona Dagenais - Verified booking

Sheffield Pike is a lovely 3 bed lodge but could be improved by upgrading the some of the kitchen equipment - for example, all the sharp knives (for food prep) were extremely blunt.

There are oodles of wine glasses but not enough tumblers and no (child friendly) plastic tumblers or plastic plates. We were there with 3 children following a week in a smaller cottage (and much cheaper) in Wales where there was every kitchen utensil you could ask for, plastic cups and plates and an array of cooking dishes. I appreciate some people eat out all the time, but others don't and it is a self-catering lodge. Also the advertised 'strong wifi' was non-existent in the lodge and could be faintly accessed (some of the time) if out on the decking (not easy when it is raining hard). On the site I found the 'adventure' playground hugely disappointing (adventure really does not belong in it's title) as did my kids (aged14-9) - it was not suitable for any children over about 7. As this is the main child activity area (as well as the 'recreation ground - which is just a space with a goalpost) I expected it to have something for all ages of children. Even my youngest found the zip wire so low it was almost impossible to use. For a big site, the play area is woefully small and under equipped. The (young) staff on the reception desk seemed mostly disinterested in customer service so didn't bother. Whilst we liked the space and quiet of the accommodation, I don't feel the site 'amenities' met the usual standard of a Park Resorts site, including the (lack of) customer service and would probably opt for a different site next time. What did you enjoy most about your stay? The proximity to lots of the Lakes' natural attractions What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests? Glenridding to How Town walk on Ullswater with paddlesteamer ride back.

A lovely peaceful location convenient for local towns and beautiful walks.

The outlook from the cabin is lovely, surrounded by trees but only a short walk to the marina and the reception area. Everything is provided that you need which is great. Cannot fault the overall superficial cleanliness but the sofa appeared grubby, probably given the material and inability to deep clean between visitors. There are parts that appear tired and there are some marks and stains around. The number of air freshener devices caused problems for me. A plug in device in each room and 3 vases in the lounge was overpowering from the minute we opened the door. The bed was ridiculously uncomfortable as there was wood between the base and mattress and what little sleep you do get is interrupted by the hot tub noise throughout the night right outside the window. This would be the same in one of the twin rooms. The hot tub could be a lovely addition however it quickly cools and the fast jets seem to add cold water, which is not particularly beneficial at the end of the day. Given the amount we paid and the facilities and experience we have had in other lodges on this site and at other locations we feel this was a very overpriced break and to be honest we have arrived home feeling disappointed.

In general the lodge was very clean and had everything you could want for a lovely stay.

Unfortunatly though the main bedroom mattress was incredibly uncomfortable, me and my wife hardly got any sleep. We tried to flip the mattress and rotate to find a comfort spot but the mattress is soo old, lumpy, worn and past its time, it needs to be replaced. I did notice a review about this mattress quite some time ago so would of expected it to be replaced but clearly not. Having said that my daughter slept very well in her bed and the rest of the lodge was fantastic. Another note is the pool on site, if you book through sykes and not park Dean themselves you don't get the opportunity to book for swimming and have to rely on the limited walk in spaces available per session. This proved difficult, and something we haven't experienced on other sites. So my advice would be to check with the site themselves before booking to make sure you are aware how they run this so you don't get disappointed. All in all though had a lovely time away, the lodge is positioned in a really quite spot on the park, within easy walking distance to the hub and other facilities.

We spent a week at Sheffield pike lodge.

The lodge is really spacious despite there being 6 people and a dog. The large windows have beautiful views of the fells which we looked at all day, and there is a lovely large decking area for when the weather is good. Unfortunately we only got one evening to sit outside because the weather was poor but the views can be seen from the lounge anyway. It is a modern lodge with all the essentials. The only thing that affected us was the complete lack of Wi-Fi which we felt could be easily remedied with a cheap booster. This meant we couldn't listen to music, download films for the kids etc. Over a week that became frustrating. It is also starting to look a little tired, and specifically the mattresses on the single beds need replacing. Otherwise a lovely place to stay. Limefitt park is in a beautiful area of the Lakes and the 2 pubs nearby are great. What did you enjoy most about your stay? The views and the space. What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests? Walk over to Ambleside
