What our customers say about their holidays

An absolutely lovely stay, thank you.
We thoroughly appreciated the back story to the mansion and the great care taken in all the planning, design and maintenance of both the outside and inside including the beautiful main hall area. A great location for travel around the peninsula and into the western, central and northern lake districts; peaceful; and nearby shops within 10mins walking distance added to make our fortnight stay easy and relaxing. Thank you for the outdoor games too and getting more badminton nets. The means to chill outdoors as if in one's back garden really enhanced the whole experience. We thoroughly recommend it as a place to stay and wonder what all the other apartments are like! Some things perhaps to think about for enhancement might include: -check the cupboard light sensor in the bedroom with access to the outside. It wouldn't turn off or stay off, and we resorted to switching it off at the fuse box. Also, same bedroom, one of the bulbs in the ceiling light wouldn't turn off. -the sauce pans seem to leak water sometime after they've been washed and put back in the drawer. -perhaps reconsider the bedside light shade choices in the master bedroom as they're quite a glare. -the freezer is unfixed in the side and so pushes back, sometimes meaning the door doesn't shut fully unless you make a point of checking. -the fridge door may also need a check as that sometimes seems to not close easily even when it's been checked that no contents are preventing the door from closing well. That's all one can think of now. Minor things and none detracted from the enjoyment of our stay. (Please feel free to publish the first paragraph above and keep the enhancements list private.)

Combe Cottage was a great place for what we paid.
I was central for lots of places such as the Lakes, the beaches and the Miner's Arms was two doors away. It was really clean and decorated well. The beds were comfortable apart from the second bedroom which was only really suitable for children as the beds were quite small. The kitchen is tiny and has no worktop space, even to wash up and drain. In fairness though there is a dishwasher. The parking could be an issue in busy times as the neighbours tend to hog the space. You either have to park down the road outside someone else's house or, if you are friendly, ask the pub if you can park on their car park. The neighbours do not appear to want to converse. The highlight for us was the lovely people around here. Silecroft is a small hamlet and most people are really friendly. The Miner's Arms is a lovely place to make friends and Ryan and his Dad were very welcoming. It's a shame that the place is up for sale. My husband loved it there as they have lovely ale and he could watch football. The beach is just down the road. It is lovely and quiet and has a free car park, lovely ice cream and you can sit there on the benches and while away the hours. The lakes are nearby and are amazing. The coast is lovely and this lovely little house is a bargain! Stairs are steep but they make that clear in the description. Outdoor space at the back has no privacy and is limited. I would not trust my dog to not jump over the wall. All in all we had fab weather and a good experience, but this was mainly due to lovely people and lovely country side.

A beautiful building in a good location.
A 5 minute walk to the Aldi and Marks and Spencer supermarkets. Rowley suite is well equipped. We explored the lakes as far as buttermere and enjoyed some breathtaking walks and scenery. Rowley suite is looking a little tired and really could do with a new rug and scatter cushions in the lounge area as the current ones are shabby. New pillows, duvet and particularly bath towels need replacing as very worn. The reed diffuser in the entrance lobby was bone dry and had not been refilled, which is a shame as Wax Lyrical is only a couple of miles up the road and prices so very affordable. The biggest let down unfortunately was the noise coming from above Rowley suite. It was so bad that we convinced ourselves there must be workmen carrying out repairs or renovating the above accommodation. I did contact the owner of the problem and I believe Mike spoke to the family above and asked them to stop it but unfortunately the problem only became worse over our week stay causing a real noise pollution. We made the most of our time exploring what the lake district has to offer but unfortunately it is with a heavy heart that we wouldn't return due to the disturbance of unacceptable noise. We wish Mike and his team continued success. Many thanks.

We stayed at Stone Cross Mansions for a week in the Alice suite with our children and dog.
The apartments are brand new and I believe that we were some of the first people to stay since they were taken over by Jerry, Louise and Mike. The apartment was immaculately clean, beautifully furnished with elegant styling, very comfortable beds and thoughtful touches. When you're staying somewhere for a week, it is very helpful to have essential basics, such as binliners and loo paper, provided. There were even some treats for the dog as part of the welcome provisions. The apartments are very close to an Aldi and an M&S for supplies and within an easy walk to Ulverston Town Centre where there are some excellent restaurants - Poppy's cafe for a Full English (including veggi version) was great. The apartment was also a good spot to travel to the various lakes from, with an hour or so drive to Keswick. The lower part of Lake Windermere is only 20 minutes drive. The booking process with Syke was straightforward and the hosts were lovely and very helpful when needed. We would definitely stay again and wish the family every success with their venture. A lovely temporary home from which to see some of the most beautiful landscapes in England. Sam & family.

Haverigg is sadly a much neglected part of Cumbria.
The beach half a mile to the right of the harbour is lovely. Nice small cafe too. Lido and beach walks for dogs nice. This property has a lot that is good and also has room for improvement. Good - lounge area, TV (once you work out how to use it), main bathroom and the local fish and chip shop. Room for improvement - the bed we tried to sleep in needs a new mattress, welcome pack information not great, number of plates etc for eight people needs to be increased, a lamp or two in the downstairs area would be really helpful for anyone who likes to read and not sit in stark white light, a couple of curtains downstairs would not go amiss on doors and the outside area needs to be softened with some plants or something of that ilk. We had builders next door Monday to Friday although there is little that could have been done about this some warning in advance might have helped. To be fair they were relatively quiet. In summary, although the pictures are a pretty accurate reflection of the property the little things that make a big difference to a holiday and perception of a cottage were not quite there for us.
