What our customers say about their holidays
Craig - Verified booking
Weâve just made our third booking to stay at Stable Cottage once again.
We found it after our previous holiday let in the area sold up and we needed to look for alternative accommodation. As we have a border collie it was important to find somewhere that was welcoming and had somewhere safe for her to pad around. When we initially found Stable Cottage on Sykesâ website we were a little hesitant because of the note regarding the narrow access lane to the cottage stating max width of 1.85m. I knew that my car, a large estate car, was wider than that and wasnât keen on parking my car away from the property. However, a Google Street View search showed me other cars parked up the lane that were larger than mine so we gambled on it being fine. The access lane is indeed snug at a pinch point at the bottom, and youâd want to be confident in the extremities of your car, but I was able to get the car up and down without too much issue. The car was too long to turn around so I would reverse back out. The second time we came we were in my wifeâs car which is much smaller and we could had enough room to turn around in the generous parking spot for the cottage. The cottage itself was ideal for our requirements. It has all of the facilities we look for. The kitchen is well stocked and if we want to cook at home we can do. The sofas are comfy to relax on of an evening. The TV has all the channels we need, and the Wi-fi is strong to the main areas of the cottage, although a little weaker in the downstairs bedroom. The garden is fully enclosed so itâs safe for our dog to be in, and large enough to kick a ball or throw a frisbee for her. There is a short gap between the door to Stable Cottage and the garden gate so do supervise your dog when you let them out as they could wander up the path to other properties, but once in the garden and the gate closed it is totally enclosed. There is a large bathroom on the main living floor, along with the living room, kitchen and second bedroom which has two single beds. The main bedroom is downstairs, with its own toilet and shower cubicle. There is a bit of a musty smell in the downstairs bedroom, which is symptom of the nature of the building and should perhaps be expected of this period of property. The downstairs bathroom is very small, tucked under the stairs, so you need to mind your head. But, the shower is really nice with plenty of hot water. From our point of view, Stable Cottage is ideal. As a professional product tester and reviewer for Amazon it is always my duty to highlight elements that might not be so welcome to everyone, even if I can overlook them myself. The access lane is indeed narrow, and not everyone will be comfortable with threading their cars between the pinch points. There is a pay-and-display car park a minuteâs walk from Stable Cottage, and a weekâs ticket can be purchased at the machine which I noted was actually very good value. There are a number of slate steps up to the door of the property which should be noted, and can be slippery in wet conditions. Stable Cottage has a slightly odd layout, in that you enter through a communal door at ground level, proceed through a corridor and emerge back out into the open, up some steps and then turn right up a few more steps to the door of the property. You actually enter the property on the first floor. That may not entirely suit people with restricted mobility, so itâs worth me noting. Iâve noted the main bedroom has a slight musty smell, and the bathroom off of it is very small. But, thatâs the limit of what I can think of as being negatives. And like I say I can over look those when balanced against the positives of the cottage itself and its location. Iâve personally been holidaying in Ceredigion since I was a baby in the late 70âs, and my family for many years before that, so weâre very familiar with the area and have many places of interests to go to and wonderful places to eat. So much so my wife and I married at the local Cardigan Castle several years ago. The location of Stable Cottage is only a 1-2 minute walk up the lane to Cardigan high street which is full of decent shops, pubs, sandwich stands etc. and there are a number of superb restaurants in the town so if you fancy a drink you donât have to worry about driving. Crwst is one of the finest cafes in Wales, and has received many awards and is also dog friendly. The Pizza Tippi on the banks of the river serves fantastic pizzas, the Copper Pot and 1176 at Cardigan Castle serve stunning high-end food while Yr Hen Printworks is a Michelin accredited restaurant. There are a number of pubs that serve great food too, such as the Grosvenor, and if you just want a take-away thereâs the Pendre fish & chip shop on the high street along with a Chinese, a couple of Indianâs, and Rominos pizza and kebabs which weâve been to on many occasions. A short drive over the river and around to St Dogmaels youâll find The Ferry Inn which is another excellent restaurant. Cardigan has a great little theatre/cinema called the Mwldan, 2-3 minuteâs walk from Stable Cottage. Thereâs a decent Tesco supermarket, with petrol station, and an Aldi too. The renowned Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve can be reached on foot from the cottage, and Poppit Sands is a short drive away and is a vast beach that is very dog friendly. For us, Stable Cottage has proven to be a great base for us set off for days out at our regular haunts up and down the coast of Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire, and to come back and take a stroll to a favourite restaurant to wind down in the evening.

Be prepared for an unauthorised payment for accidental damage upon your departure even if you have not caused it!
We just finished our holiday on 28 March and then received a phone call from Sykes Cottage on 29 March informing us of damages at our stay cottage. There were two dents in the wall and one burnt oven glove. We informed them that the damages were there upon our arrival, we had noticed them as we entered the property, but were told the owner of the property had taken photos of the damages upon our departure. We challenged to see the evidence that proves the damages were NOT there upon our arrival, but neither Sykes Cottage or the owner have provide it. As of this writing they have not provided any evidence, however the burden of proof is with them. Regardless of our response to Sykes Cottage on 29 March, stating that we had noticed the damage upon arrival, we still had an unauthorised transaction of £80 taken from our bank account on 1 April to effect repairs for the damage. We rang Sykes Cottage but was told that âSykes Cottage has no control over claims if the property owner instructs them to take out payment from the âGood Housekeeping bondââ. Therefore Sykes Cottage had to deduct the payment from our account and advised us that âif you disagree with this resolution then please seek third party advice!â This implies that the customer is liable for any damage without need of proof and means that it is open cheque book season. We have contacted our bank to dispute this matter hoping for a fairer and more robust due diligence to be conducted over this matter. As a holiday maker, the last thing we wanted was an unjustified legal battle to deal with resulting in spoiling our holiday experience. Needless to say we will not be returning and looking into the finer legal position that the customer will find themselves in. We will not use again.

The one good thing about this property is that the garden is far more enclosed than expected.
So the dogs could be watched but didn't have to be kept on a lead all the time. However that is where the good things stopped. The property is very damp, as a family member suffers from asthma we considered going home early but having travelled six hours to the cottage decided to stay for the majority of our booking. To minimize the problem we had to keep the windows fully open night and day whenever we were in, which unfortunately meant the VERY loud road noise woke us early every morning as the cottage is maybe thirty feet from the roadside. Also the advertised Sky TV is no longer connected, the satellite dish is hanging off the wall and you are limited to Free-sat - but because the wifi is so slow that it is practically non existent, there is no means to stream any TV shows. You have to watch live or not bother. I too ran a speed test which came back as 25 Kbps maximum ie 0.02Mbps which reminded me of the early 90's. We would have brought a DVD player with us had we known, as Amazon Prime or Netflix or any of the terrestrial catch up channels just wouldn't work. We eventually used our mobile phone as a, "hot spot" to be able to check emails but as we don't have unlimited data that was about it. As the sofa has no cushioning whatsoever and needs to be replaced you wouldn't want to sit too long anyway, it is like sitting on a church pew. We did contact Sykes and sent them a photograph of the black mould on the, (unnecessary) bathroom curtains but have never had the courtesy of even a reply. Lovely area and we are back in December but we won't stay at Panteg again.

Lovely property!
! Perfect location and a lovely area. The property just felt like home we could have moved in. Such lovely features and the garden was so pretty and secure for our 17 month old we didn't need to worry he was going to get out or get hurt. The property was very child friendly with high chair, cot, stair gate and even nappies; they thought of everything. Just maybe a stair gate upstairs would have been helpful but wasn't too much of an issue as all the doors shut. Was great to have milk, jam and everything else for when you arrive. The owners are so lovely and couldn't do anymore for you they were so helpful. Couldn't hear any construction noise inside the property as work was going on next door and over the road. Which was amazing! The property the owners are doing up next door looks just as fabulous. Will definitely be back! Was the perfect holiday to get engaged.

Lovely cottage.
The cottage was a little hard to find we ended up going round the one way system 3 times until we found it. Cottage was lovely home from home. Clean and had everything you could wish for. Apart from BBQ but we took our own portable one. We took 2 dogs. the garden could do with being gated so we could leave them out. The bed was too soft for me, but I am sure fine for others. Handy for town all shops and pubs in easy walking distance. Aldi and Tesco for bigger shops 3/4 mile away. Not much to do in the area with is within walking distance. The town is looking a little run down with plenty of shops closed. (sign of the times) but plenty of stunning beaches with a few miles away. We found plenty to do. if you are a beach lover this is an ideal base. All in all we had a great time.
