  I’ll start with the positives about the cottage (Location, Peace, Hot Tub) The cottage is ideally placed at the north end of the island, which was great for exploring.

  A previous review mentioned Church Bay being not so great and though there isn’t much there, when the tide is out the there is a great little beach, especially if you have a four-legged friend with you. The cottage itself is close to a main road but set far enough back for you not to really hear much from the traffic (which isn’t exactly heavy anyway). The view from the back of the cottage is great and the peace and quiet was amazing and welcomed too. The big bonus is the large hot tub, which we (me in particular) made great use off. It’s under cover so even sat out there in the rain one afternoon. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end I’m afraid because, just as a numerous previous reviews have mentioned and not taken on board, the cottage is dated, tired and in need of some TLC and a deep clean. The pictures on Sykes are a tad misleading as they were obviously taken some time ago starting when you pull onto the not so large drive (might be a problem if you have multiple cars) as most of it has been cut out now and the garage walled off the main part of the property. The drive was full of weeds, the front door damaged and filthy, the pretty window flower boxes empty! Windows all round were filthy too. Same with the rear enclosed area, again pictures no longer a reflection of how it looks now. The barbeque tray and grill missing, decking in need of clean to remove slippery algae, walls need repainted etc. Plant pots full of weeds, faded plastic plants and broken – not the pretty area in the photo Inside I’d say the cottage has most things you need but again so much is a dated mismatch of items, a lot of which need replaced especially the beds and the worst bedding and pillows I’ve experienced in a cottage (I’d advise taking your own pillows to be honest). The mattresses are uncomfortable, duvets pretty useless and as the instructions said we had to strip the beds we used before leaving we were privy to the ruddy great stain on one of them. The wall mounted fire didn’t work, as mentioned in another review but in all fairness the other heater did (we only used the lounge and kitchen one) I think that, reading the reviews the cottage was probably lovely some time ago but ongoing neglect had left it feeling drab and tired – A paint throughout out of season, tidy the front and back areas u[ and replace the beds and bedding and it would bring it back up to a decent standard. All in all, I wouldn’t stay there again but value for money, location, hot tub, peace and relaxation then maybe consider it but just be aware it is not as portrayed as per the photos and does need that care and attention to bring it back up to spec

  I wouldn’t know where to begin with the story of our holiday stay.

  The home was everything it states but if there is a problem the Menai Holiday agency is hopeless. There was a very distressing incident during the holiday. Without going into it fully as this matter will be taken further, but the caretaker called, we were in the back garden, my grandchildren were in the front living room. Apparently they knocked but thought no one was in so they let themselves into the house, where they then banged on the living room door where my grandchildren were. They were petrified and frightened that this stranger was stood there and asking where there parents were, the children starting shouting as the caretaker had blocked the doorway so they were unable to run out, in all the commotion and shouting my son stepped out of the shower ( half undressed ) to open the bathroom door to find the caretaker had then walked down the length of the hallway to the kitchen. She said the owner had asked her to call to check the model of the fridge and staining damage on the worktop. By this time the children are crying with shock and needless to say I had come in from the garden and was in complete shock at the commotion and trauma to the children. I contacted Menai letting agency straight away and ( this was a Monday morning ) I explained what had happened and they said they would contact the owner. 24 hours later there was no contact from them. I had to ring them several times, left on hold for ages, or cut off , I did have a ring back at one point to which they would just reassure me it wouldn’t happen again. They didn’t seem to understand the fact that a complete stranger let themselves in ( thinking we were out, which is even worse ) o our privately rented holiday home. It ruined the holiday for the children, my son took my grandson home on the Tuesday evening as he was to upset he kept talking about it. He just couldn’t understand how someone had let themselves in ( thinking we were out ) Our cars were in the drive and the grandchildren were in the living room. I have sent several emails, with the full distressing story but they have all been ignored. I think it’s disgraceful what happened but it seems the agency and owner think it was ok. I have been inundated for feedback since arriving home. Well if this is the only way to get them to realise the distressing effects on my grandchildren then I have no hesitation in putting this story out there so it won’t happen to others.   AVOID Very disappointed….

  Don’t waste your money! We arrived on the Saturday and within an hour the kitchen door came away from two of its hinges. We fixed this after the caretaker advised on the location of a screwdriver, it came away the next day! Sat down for board games at the dining table only for the dining chair to collapse with me. All seats were also stained. Sunday my partner wanted a shower only to find the en-suite shower doesn’t work. Went to main bathroom and the temperature dial was so stiff I had to use a towel to get it to an acceptable temperature for all the family to use. The children went to use the hot tub and it wasn’t filled up enough so we had to fill it up and then wait for it to heat up. The dishwasher was a third full with dirty dishes. The sofa had a large rip on the cushion. Lamp didn’t work in one of the bedrooms. Main bedroom mattress was so uncomfortable that I chose to sleep on the floor, it was stained and too thin to provide any support. The garden furniture was beyond filthy and too dirty to even be used. We reported all complaints and the landlord advised someone would be with us the next day, no one showed up. Maintenance showed up Wednesday and couldn’t fix the shower as it needed parts, advised we couldn’t use the hot tub as it was out of chemicals and there were no more to provide. This makes me conclude that the hot tub wasn’t serviced. Maintenance arrived the following day to clean the garden furniture but didn’t bring any hot tub chemicals. We had three days where we couldn’t use the hot tub. We booked a 5 bedroom and 3 bathroom property for my daughter’s 18th birthday and were are very disappointed with the rental accommodation. Dear owner I believe a full refund is warranted!

  Property is in a great spot and close to loads of things to do, places to eat, beaches.

  Views from all angles are stunning and the garden areas are large and useable. Kids really enjoyed playing outside in such a big area. The property itself needs heavy maintenance and investment. We couldn’t use the conservatory at all because of the amount of mould in it (the blinds are covered in it) and there were mouldy areas in both of the bedrooms at the front of the building. Several things were broken including the toaster (we bought our own and left it for the next people), the lock on the bathroom door (stuck open) and the push button on the master bathroom toilet. The front door is not fitted properly and jams every time it is opened or closed (this is more of a minor issue though) There is also an area of serious water ingress in the utility room on the right hand side by the back door to the garden. The brickwork is saturated (when you touch the wall your hand comes away wet) and if I owned the property I would investigate that as a matter of priority before it becomes a structural issue. On rainy days we had to move all our things out of this room due to the water ingress. It did us ok for a short stay, due to the proximity of it to places we wanted to visit during our holiday and the fact we only really returned to go to bed, but I wouldn’t recommend it or entertain staying there again until some investment is made getting it back up to scratch. Properly renovated the place would be an absolute gem.

  I was disappointed when arriving that the photo did not reflect the true size of the properties frontage,(was much smaller than expected,looks a lot larger in photo).

  Had problems with accessing the key safe,would buy a new one if mine. The cleanliness was not as good as expected,the ingress of woodlice of all sizes on a daily basis was off putting as was finding dead carcasses of same in all rooms downstairs which shouldn't have been there if a thorough cleaning had taken place.The divan bed downstairs was not connected together and would come apart at the slightest touch and reveal that cleaning of underneath had not taken place for quite some time.The mattress of the divan bed downstairs was very hard(like sleeping on a plank).We opted to use just the lower floor because of the location of the bathroom. The heating instructions for use was very misleading,it mentions the main control being adjacent to the family bathroom upstairs,took some time to understand how to use the radiators.(No instructions for these). Our pets biscuits were in a bowl in the kitchen and these were coated one morning with slug or snail slime as was the cloth it stood on,could not find the culprit but there was a large gap in the corner where the kick boards should meet. Sorry if my comments seem harsh and negative,but I think the property owners should be made aware of these failings.
