What our customers say about their holidays

We had booked a week, but left after 4 nights as we had 2 days when the Hot water wouldnât work.
Coming back wet and cold from a cycle ride to no hot water was the final straw. The property is owner-run so Sykes only take bookings and are not liable, the owner by his own admission said it âprobably needs a service!â. He takes no responsibility for the shortcomings and refused to pay any compensation. The best he offered was âYou can walk across in the rain to another outbuilding and shower there!â Definitely not what we paid for. The building is a âprefabâ , glass all along the front , no opening windows in the bedroom, lounge or kitchen. Bit of a goldfish bowl as walkers on the road can look in, stuffy at night as only option was to leave door completely open and then the local dog walks in. The outlying property âwalksâ have a neglected air about them as well as being a Scrapyard of old vans and tractors, broken machinery and glass. The âtennis court â needs a good clear up - extension leads to the âBoxâ running across it. Also the trainline passes 100 yards away, not mentioned in the information. The outside âBarâ is a derelict shed and the âSwimming lakeâ is a pond! It has potential to be a lot better but needs more investment and maintenance to bring it up to standard.

Quiet and peaceful.
The bed is very comfortable. There were some nice welcoming touches for our dog. The TV is very large! We enjoyed our stay but felt frustrated by a few things which stopped it being five stars. The extract fan above the cooker doesn't work and the induction hob worked erratically. The kettle looked unused and when we tried it, it tripped the fuse each time we did so. We ended up heating water in the microwave or in a pan. There were two wine glasses, one of which was yellow plastic; it shouldn't be difficult to have a couple of matching glasses! Ditto there only being one large bath towel between the two of us - plenty of medium ones. The bathroom and shower were great. The heating was noisy and we had to turn it off overnight in the bedroom which made it very cold. This would only be an issue in winter, we did arrive on a very cold night, it was absolutely fine whilst we were awake and it was quite comfortable then. I did try and contact the owner about the kettle but on checking the morning we left I had had a fat finger moment and sent it to the wrong number! I think if the kitchen issues were sorted the cottage would have been five star

This little cottage suited us perfectly being a group of three and two dogs.
It was clean and beautifuly furnished and decorated. It had all the kitchen equipment needed and it was great to be provided with some complimentaries i.e. Washing up liquid, dishcloths etc. The enclosed outside area was a wonderful sun trap which we enjoyed. There was a convenient circular dog walk over the road which our dogs loved. We had our own parking space outside the door which was ideal as we had one elderly member in the group. However, I wouldnât recomend the place for small children as the door opens out directly into the car park and the nearby road can be very busy. The corners of the glass dining table proved to be problematic for us and they would be especially hazzardous for toddlers. I would recomend having proper lounge seating for a fourth person. None of our party would have been able to cope with the beanbag provided! Luckily we were three. All in all, we had a great stay.

We experienced problems with water pressure.
.when we turned on taps the noise was tremendous..and lasted almost length of shower..pressure needs to be sorted..plus more lights needed at this time of year..I have owned a Cotswold cottage so the charm of them is a bonus, but not in the winter when especially in the bedroom I used a torch to check floor space ! Courtesy light did not work properly,so again torch necessary to get to car..however bed was comfy, but bed linen left a lot to be desired, just a quick iron would have been beneficial! We were however grateful to have been left an extra duvet..as it was chilly..the ac units, weâre fine but , your feet froze whilst top half was toasty !l Lovely gesture of treats, blanket, etc for our third family member, she was delighted, especially as we were all on one level, and we could hear her snoring all night

Could be a lovely little cottage with a bit more care.
I note from other reviews that the extractor fan wasn't working - well it still isn't 6 months later. Kitchen tap spurts water from where it connects to the sink on both hot and cold. The property has too many air freshners which we had to turn off for fear of being choked to death. The outdoor space cannot be referred to as a courtyard - it is an extension of the parking area. No welcome pack beyond tea, coffee etc. The milk sachets left for us (in June 2024) had an expiry date of 24 February 2024! We were due to come back here in February 2025 but have now cancelled, despite losing our deposit as it's impossible to discuss any issues with Sykes. The heating system is blow air from above which would not be suitable for sleeping with - another factor in cancelling a winter break here.
