What our customers say about their holidays

Where to start⦠We were due to check in from 3pm on 31/05 for 3 nights.
At 2.30pm whilst we were on our way (3 hour drive) we were told we couldnât enter the property until 6pm because it had not been cleaned. Quite frankly giving 30 minutes notice is a complete joke. We had our 5 month old daughter with us who needed to go to sleep ant 6pm and we also had to try and fill time because of this. Which meant more money spent. We eventually got into the property at around 7pm. Our first morning at the property was dreadful. No hot water running from the shower. We had luke warm water for 30 seconds then ice cold. I ran the shower for 40 minutes on full hot and it was ice cold. We informed the cleaner who said she would come round and check when we were out. So we were unable to shower and had to head out. The cleaner then informed me that she had been round and everything was fine⦠Obviously it was not fine and when we returned I went to turn the shower on again and low and behold the same problem. I informed the cleaner at 3.30pm. I heard nothing until 6.30pm, by which this time we had had enough and I called Sykes to complain and ask for a full refund as we would be leaving as soon as we could the following morning. Within minutes the cleaner is calling me! What a coincidence! I spoke again with the cleaner who said she would have to come round to check again or she would have to inform the owner I had refused to let her come inâ¦I could see what was happening here already. Our daughter was asleep and we were reluctant to let the cleaner back in because of this. However she said she would bring a âplumberâ. Somehow within 15 minutes the cleaner was at our door with the âplumberâ (definitely was not a plumber). Checked the shower and boiler and guess whatâ¦it wasnât working! We were advised not to use the shower and that they would be calling British Gas to have the boiler checked as it was dangerous. Still no contact from the owners! I informed Sykes again that we wanted a full refund as this was not acceptable and we were unable to shower or bath our 5 month old daughter. The following morning, still no word from anyone so I again had to call Sykes who said they would contact the owner again about the refund. The owner offered 50%â¦50% refund after the absolute shambles that we had been through⦠I think itâs clear we will not be staying here again. We love Malmesbury and visit almost every year. Luckily we have stayed in other cottages in the village, with more competent and personable owners so have no need to come back here. Thankfully

We had the most wonderful stay at Corner Cottage.
Beautiful decor, charming character, impeccably clean and all the facilities you could really ever ask for at a self-catering property (including a tin of cookies, coffee pods & even some glossy magazines to cast an eye over upon your arrival). The private parking space provided (2 min walk from property) gave us peace of mind that the car was safe. The parking space number is 17 - we parked the car before arriving at the property and luckily picked spot number 17 at random before reading it in the welcome guide. We really couldn't have asked for anything more, and despite being quite a small property, it really doesn't feel cramped in any way - it very much reminded of the film "The Holiday" with the open fire, exposed brick work and cosy interior. The town of Malmesbury itself is quite small, but we would recommend walking around the Abbey Gardens, dining at the Bird Cage Restaurant (pizzeria) & having brunch at the Summer Cafe. We also managed to visit most of the pubs that the town offers - including a drink at The Old Bell. I'm also a vegan, and found it very easy to eat out in Malmesbury - even the takout pizza house was very accommodating! If we ever find ourselves up that way again, I would 100% come back to stay at Corner Cottage. We've both spent the past few days since being back talking about how much we'd love to live in a cottage just like it! Jaz (28) & Jon (31)

The cottage cottage is beautifully decorated and very well equipped and we very much enjoyed our stay with our very good friends.
But we had to toss for which of us got the bedroom with a door and a bed with easy access for two people, and which of us would have to clamber up the difficult stairs to the doorless bedroom, with a squashed-in bed that one of us had to clamber over to get into, and where there was nowhere to hang anything. It didn't spoil our holiday, but we thought it should have been made clearer in the description of the property that the property is for one couple sleeping comfortably plus one other in conditions more like a kitiwake on a ledge of a cliff. Also, it says in the property description that the cottage has access to a shared courtyard, but there was no key in the lock to the backdoor and there was no sense that this courtyard was something that we shared access to with the house next door. We did appreciate the care that had been taken to provide a beautiful, well-equipped holiday cottage, in a lovely town, but it is a stretch describing it as a cottage for four - we were there for four days - I don't think we could have managed a week.

Though we enjoyed our stay and thought that the cottage had been beautifully maintained I could not recommend it to people of our age (74 and 81 years) and we are both very fit and active.
I should have taken more notice of your comments about the stairs. Those down to the kitchen are a nightmare and one slip could result in a major, if not fatal, accident. My husband is over 6' tall and the combination of negotiating the actual steps and bending, almost double in order not to hit his head was something of a nightmare. Especially when you have to take into consideration that food and drink have to be carried up and down those stairs. On a lighter note, the shower was not reliable and the hot water cut out on one or both of us every day, usually when we were covered in soap. It would also be helpful if folk were told exactly where the private car park was and what number bay was allocated, in the final information you send out. However, we enjoyed our stay in Malmesbury and found its citizens friendly and helpful.

A very sweet little cottage, in a beautiful part of the world.
We found lots to do in the area. The cottage is well equipped and furnished - very comfortable indeed. We didnât feel ourselves to be less mobile until we stayed here - oh my goodness! The stone steps down into the kitchen are so difficult to navigate, and the rope handrail doesnât add to any feelings of safety. We really struggled to come up the stairs with drinks etc in our hands. The headroom Is limited too, both on the stairwell and the shower. As stated in the description, the parking in Malmesbury is a nightmare. We never once managed to park outside the cottage, and the allocated parking is quite a hike; ok normally, but trying to drag suitcases uphill on a road without a pavement wasnât pleasant. Not the fault of the owner, but just something to bare in mind.
