What our customers say about their holidays

Our stay at Capel Maethlon was simply incredible. The property is situated in Cwm Maethlon ("Happy Valley") and there couldn't be a more apt description for the location. Each day was spent surrounded by newborn lambs skipping in the fields; house martins nesting in the chapel's gables; pheasants, owls, and cuckoos calling in the distance—and all in one of the most picturesque settings one could imagine. We highly recommend exploring the local public footpaths, all of which can be found in the Ordnance Survey maps provided by the property's owner. Easily within a day's hike, one can find multiple named mountains with incredible views, stone circles, tumuli, cairns, and other sites of historical importance. There is even a bronze-age barrow mound to be found in the farmer's field directly across from the chapel (though this is not publicly accessible, it can be viewed from the road). The chapel itself, though modern in comparison to the bronze-age and neolithic sites, is also of significance. The active graveyard next door provides an interesting snapshot into local life, and the chapel was once led by noted Welsh pacifist George Maitland Lloyd Davies. If you have even a cursory interest in history or archaeology, a trip to Capel Maethlon and the Happy Valley and will undoubtedly pique your curiosity. In all, this is one of the most incredible holiday properties you could hope to find and I couldn't recommend it more highly.

This is a lovely cottage in a very quiet location (rush hour seemed to be a couple of sheep walking past in the morning), and a great location for visiting other areas.
Nothing is too far away. The cottage is fully equipped with all the basics you might need and more! We didn't use the open fire as there was only a couple of logs provided and we couldn't find anywhere easily to buy more while we were out but the cottage is nice and warm from the electric heating anyway, especially if you close the lounge door while you're relaxing in the evening. The bathroom is quite small and it's a bit tight to manoeuvre so may not be suited to anyone with mobility issues, but it is clean and nicely maintained. It was the perfect place for a break for two adults. I'm not sure it would be very well suited for small children as the stairs are quite tricky and the bathroom is downstairs but I'm sure older children would manage just fine. We would happily book this cottage again.

We are a family of four (2 children aged 14 and 11) and we loved the cottage.
Very cosy and comfortable. The kitchen is very well equipped, we cooked several times during the week and had everything we needed. Loved playing the games in the cottage as well as flicking though the books left there. Great that you can watch your own streaming services on the TV for a cosy night in. The location is great and the views are outstanding. We loved the community run pub in the village too and the neighbours are super friendly and helpful. The only thing I would have liked to be different would be the ability to move the twin beds further apart from one another.

Cartrefel was lovely.
It is small. Everything you could possibly want was available in the cottage. Furnishing weâre lovely.Very welcoming and cosy lovely throws are available. The stairs are very narrow I think they could be if it form some carpet. We had a problem with the Tv I texted, the housekeeper was there very quickly and the problem was resolved. We were not able to use the back door as the scaffolding was still up from recent work on next doorThis ment we were unable to let the dog out,the cottage is on the road while not a main road it caused some concern.

Hi the cottage was a nice cottage except for the upstairs being very cold, actually freezing on the first two nights.
Did speak to the owner who replied she could not but the heating up to much due to being expensive. Replied saying they was plenty of blankets and electric blankets on the beds. I felt uncomfortable asking the owner to turn the heating up I was freezing during the night. We had to use extra wood logs to keep the house warm. Will enclose photos of the heating in the main room which the owner controlled from her end. Temperature being on 10. We decided to go home two days later. Not very happy with having to leave so early. Kind regards
