What our customers say about their holidays

Dovecote would have been a lovely place to stay probably a decade ago.
It is unfortunately now run down and shabby looking. Overall it radiates a lack of love injected into it, with no ornaments, pictures on the wall, tired looking decor...etc. The building itself and the surroundings are lovely, in a lovely location. We read the reviews, but because they were last years reviews, we hoped there would have been an improvement, and also we know that it is a personal preference and standards that lead to certain reviews. With a hindsight we wish we listemed to those reviews. Our first impression on arrival was the lovely oak front door, with its window pannel taped with a duck tape, that has clearly been there ages, as it is coming off. The kitchen is a bit dated, with a mish mash, dated equipment. It wouldn't cost much to get some decent crockery and cutlery, couple of nice mugs, cereal bowls, couple of nice pots and pans... The inside of the cupboards were not all that clean either. It would have helped to be provided with a dish cloth ( we bought it ourselves and used well!) The toilet seat was loose and came off couple of times. The bathroom on the whole was not all that clean, and shabby looking. There was a strong smell of drain in the bathroom and we pulled out a nasty clump of hair from the shower drain.... We were provided with blue, old looking towels. There is no wifi at the Dovecote, with poor satellite signal , so not a chance to watch a bit of TV without it glitching. The mattrace in the main bedrrom felt it had a dip, perhaps in need of replacing. The hot tub is nice touch but we felt like we needed to have a good shower aftetwards as the water didn't look all that clean. It did say to bring your own hairdryer, but it would not cost much to provide a small one, as well as soap for the bathroom. Perhaps some books, games and a folder with ideas and recomendations for trips would have make a difference? . A guess book to leave a message was not there either. The cottage really needs an investment to bring it up to standard. It lacks the cosiness and and comfort. And it is such a shame, as it is such a lovely building, it just needs the love that it deserves. We paid for 4 night stay but stayed only 3 nights, we felt it was enough here..

A Perfect Stay at Hopkins Homestead â Truly Five Stars!
Our stay at Hopkins Homestead was absolutely incredible and exceeded every expectation we had. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that a lot of thought and care had gone into making this accommodation special. The property itself was spacious, immaculately clean, and beautifully maintainedâoffering the perfect balance of comfort and style. The welcome pack was a delightful touch and set the tone for our stay. We were greeted with freshly baked scones, a loaf of fresh bread, creamy butter, homemade jams, and even a bottle of Prosecco (or a similar lovely red wineâit was such a thoughtful treat!). These little extras made us feel immediately at home and incredibly pampered. Sheila, the host, was simply amazing. She was warm, welcoming, and always happy to help. Knowing she was right next door and ready to assist if we needed anything gave us such peace of mind. Her hospitality really added to the experience, and itâs clear she genuinely cares about her guests. The location was another highlight. Hopkins Homestead is conveniently close to Dover, which has so much to offer. The city centre is charming and filled with great shopping options, lovely restaurants, and a variety of things to do. Dover Beach is just a short drive away, perfect for a relaxing stroll by the sea. The surrounding area also boasts plenty of walking trails, amusement parks for family fun, and scenic spots to explore. We left feeling completely refreshed and so impressed with the level of care and attention to detail that Hopkins Homestead provides. If youâre looking for a peaceful retreat with easy access to everything Dover has to offer, this is the place to be. We couldnât recommend it more highlyâthis is truly a five-star experience!

We had quite a short stay really .
Not long enough quite honestly The property is lovely and we were met by Abi who is the perfect host and gave us all the guidance we needed. She is the kind of person you warm to immediately A couple of nice touches too Some gorgeous eggs which have to be the best eggs ever and a lovely cake which went down well with a coffee. The property has an ambience about it which my wife Jen commented on as soon as we were in and settled .It has a natural karma about it which was tangible. You know when a place feels right ,and this absolutely did It is quirky which adds to the charm .Its comfortable ,has everything you need if you went down the self catering route. We ate out mostly .We recommend the Lantern just up the road .Would have walked but it was a little damp that evening .The following day was better with sunshine so it made up for it . The garden is beautiful so when we're back it is definitely a place we'll spend with a good book. The location is so quiet save a few farm vehicles and there is absolutely no light pollution . Little Yaffle has to be up there with the best of them Abi will explain where the name little Yaffle came from .We had no idea Don't google it .Abi's explanation is much more interesting . Don't alter anything Abi.We loved it. Till next time x Trevor and Jennifer from Essex ( near Maldon)

Solton Manor House is beautiful and a great place for a large family to get together.
The initial snags we encountered were sorted promptly and without any fuss. It is a shame there were not enough oven pans for cooking a roast dinner but we improvised and managed. The fridge is not large enough for a house full but luckily the back corridor has some cool nooks. Thank you for providing a separate freezer, that was a nice surprise as was all the hand soap, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. We bought dishwasher salt and filled up the machine and cleaned the filter. We ran out of hot water one morning and found the nest settings had turned it off. You might want to check that for the next guests. The other items that were lacking were kitchen scissors, silicon spatulas and food tongs. It would have been useful to have had a few plastic plates, dishes and cups for the small children. We broke a wine glass and one of the grey plates but put the door catch back on the small freezer. We could not get the right hand oven to work at all. Thank you to the maintenance man for looking after us. We had a lovely family time together. When there are 16 family plus a few friends that is not easy in many locations. The location was great for many outings without having to go far. We even swam in the sea in October.

We booked to celebrate a 50th birthday with 9 couples, and if you are looking for a venue that will make you smile and say wow as soon as you pull off the tree lined driveway look no further than Sulton manor.
The photos do not do it justice, from the moment we walked in you are drawn in by the grandeur and scale of the place. The main living room with massive fire place through to the dinning room which can easily seat our group of 18. The kitchen is very nice and although not as big as we had thought, we did manage to do a 9 course tapas with five of us cooking in there. The games room is large and full of all the equipment you could need. The main bedroom is out of a fairy tail, four poster bed on suite bathroom bigger than most family bathrooms. All of the other rooms are exactly as described on the website, but itâs the decor and detail that make it so special. You can really feel the history of the place with its uneven floors, exposed brickwork and beams you can see the owners have tried to keep as many original features on show as possible. The grounds are lovely and can recommend a 30 min walk to the Lantern pub. Karen and her team answered any requests quickly and were not intrusive. The Wifi was excellent and worked everywhere and the heating was great even in a place this big. All in all, we could not fault our stay and have all gone home with the most amazing memories of our stay. Thank you x
