What our customers say about their holidays

Regretfully, I must raise a complaint about our stay.
The condition of the property was satisfactory. I would, however, take issue with the 'patio with furniture'. It was just a small space on the short path to the front door, and no patio as I know it. Still, that was a minor point. The toilet did not flush properly. The flush was too brief to flush everything away. Admittedly, it did flush properly sometimes, still, on those occasions the flush was still not strong enough to flush everything. I raised this with the owners and a gentleman did attend to the problem. He conceded it was an issue and said that he would ask a plumber to look at it - he added that he did not know when the plumber would be available. In the end, the plumber was due to attend the day after we left. The owner provided us with a bucket to flush the toilet. I subsequently raised this as a complaint but was informed that nothing could be done. In summary, we paid good money to stay in a property with a faulty toilet - one which we had to flush ourselves with a bucket. We are a family of four with two children, so this was a very unpleasant issue to deal with. I fully appreciate this was unforeseeable and I have not personal animosity towards the owners, they seemed amiable enough, but this situation was unacceptable and I would like to raise it as a formal complaint. I find if hard to believe that it was not possible to find a plumber to attend at short notice. Needless to say, we will not be using Sykes Cottages again. I would like to escalate this matter and look forward to a response. Mr and Mrs Rooney

This place is an absolute gem!
Set in a quiet area within reach of a beautiful village, the barn has both a feel of a combination of an old style cottage but with a modern design. The interior is beautifully designed and is very spacious, which includes a snug area with a wood burner. The kitchen is modern and has everything you will need for preparing meals. On arrival, we found a gift basket that had numerous items (bread, bacon, butter, crisps, Prosecco, milk, eggs and Popcorn) which was a lovely touch. We only had one issue, which was we utilised the gift basket for our bread products only to find that we had had an overnight visitor which opened and pinched alot of the bread products, this wasn't a big deal for us as you are in the middle of fields so you expect that sort of thing. We did let the owners know but only for information. Luckily the weather was kind to us so we utilised the outdoor space and hot tub every day overlooking the beautiful views. Esholt itself is a loveley village, and we visited the Woolpack for evening meal which we enjoyed and is within walking distance. Cunliffe Barn was used as a base to explore the Yorkshire countryside. We would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a memorable stay in a very quiet spot of Yorkshire!

Overall, a very pleasant stay.
Would be better if the listing stated Bessie Lane as opposed to The Hills. The white goods could do with an upgrade (though trivial, it's difficult to turn the temperature dial on the oven if you have issues with your arm as I do, the fridge/freezer opened on the wrong side and one of the shelves is broken [a smaller one would also take up less room]). The provisions provided on arrival was a lovely touch. Shame one of the windows in the living area was frosted glass and didn't open (however I am sure there is a reason for this). Kitchen utensil/crockery etc. is the best we have seen/used in a cottage, and the layout is well thought-out. The cottage was not cluttered with bits and pieces which improved the whole aesthetics of the living areas (the AA book we found in one of the cupboards was particularly useful). The garden area is tiny (though didn't bother us as it was too wet and windy to sit outside), what would be useful though, is a free standing boot brush/scraper. Bradwell is a pretty little village with all the amenities you need and well worth a visit, a good base to visit the High Peaks. Thank Anita for your attentiveness, prior to our stay.

The property is located in a quiet, rural setting neighbouring a working dairy farm.
It was fascinating to see the cows coming and going for milking. There was no noise or mess to deal with even though the farm is quite close. Once off the main road the lanes to access East Barn are mainly single track. There are some interesting places to visit which are not far to access by car. East Barn is a lovely property with a drive for parking, a fenced, grassy area for a garden and a concrete patio. Inside all 3 bedrooms are downstairs with a family bathroom, utility room which all have good quality, comfortable furnishings, fittings and appliances. Upstairs is a galley kitchen, large, light, airy lounge and dining area and an extra shower room with WC & hand basin. The furnishings, fittings and appliances are all of good quality and very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped with all we needed for the week. We were a party of 3 adults and 2 dogs and had a lovely time staying at East Barn which made our holiday very special. The cottage was very calming and easy to relax in and the views were superb. One of the best places I have had the pleasure to stay in when renting a cottage.

Talla Hope is an amazing holiday home if you want a remote self-catering experience in a beautiful place.
The cottage was very clean, comfortable and cozy. We stayed during a cold spell for June, only 8C one day. We were warm enough using the wood burning stove and/or regular heaters. We didnât use the storage heaters. The two bathrooms are really modern with walk in showers. The mezzanine bed and sofa are very comfortable. The nearest town, Staffin has a couple of basic shops. At The McKenzie Stores you can get basic provisions, fuel for your car and fuel for the wood burner. They also do an excellent curry takeaway. The hungry gull is open a few days a week (accurate opening times on Google) does really good food at all meal times at a reasonable price. They also serve alcohol. We enjoyed Portree, The Quairang, The Storr (as well as the old man), the boat trip from Elgol and the museum of Skye life. We wish weâd had time to do more things. I am in love with the Raasay whiskey and the Isle of Skye. We will return one day.
