What our customers say about their holidays

First the good news !
This is a pretty little cottage within the courtyard of a restored & converted stable block. The village of West Felton is a lovely quiet Shropshire village just off the main A5 trunk road but far enough off it to be very quiet and peaceful. All the villagers we met were friendly & chatty and there is a very useful village shop and post office (post office open Wednesdays a.m.only). Sadly the village pub, the Punch Bowl, has seen better times and needs a big chunk of investment to compete with the nearby Queens Head just a mile down the road. Hope it survives ! Oswestry is just a few minutes down the road where there is more choice & several supermarkets. The cottage itself has been updated with new kitchen, bathroom and two very pleasant bedrooms (one with super king bed !). The cottage is small, ok for two but we though four adults would struggle. The refurbished bathroom is downstairs next to the kitchen which can be a bit of a hassle if you need a quick dash to the loo in the night ! This involves negotiating the steep narrow staircase with some strange step arrangements where they meet the bedrooms - needs a lot of care to negotiate safely ! The "not so good" bits ! - We have stayed at lots of Sykes cottages but this is the first one where we almost turned round and left when we saw the lounge carpet. It truly looked as though someone had held a pop festival on it, grubby, badly stained. Only fit for the skip I'm afraid. Really needs a hard floor to be in keeping with the cottage character & to cope with the wear & tear it obviously gets. The place needs a bit of TLC in a few places too - my first shower had to be aborted due to the shower waste not working properly. Had to set to and clean it out which was a bit unexpected. Similar the dishwasher which needed its filters cleaning out to work properly and the detergent dispenser wouldn't close so it was hand washing up - again not a show stopper. To maximise space the lounge has a fold down dining table with some integrated dining chairs - truly the most uncomfortable things we have ever sat on even with the addition of a cushion ! Its a shame that a bit more attention to detail & maintenance hadn't been paid because its a lovely place & could be a lot better. The owners were away when we were there otherwise we would have knocked on the door and explained all of this to them. Don't be put off, its a nice place but bear in mind the downstairs bathroom, steep narrow stairs if you have mobility issues. This is a dog friendly cottage & we had our dog with us - however the two black cats & the free range hens are boss so watch the dog !!

This property could be absolutely amazing with a little TLC.
We had issues with the beginnings of a wasp nest in the bedroom window frame above the front door resulting in wasps coming into the bedroom through the interior sash cord holes, my mum who is allergic to wasps was stung four times requiring urgent medical care. I disposed of the nest with a suitable spray but suspect the wasps will return because the window frame is damaged outside. Thereâs a few raised floorboard nails upstairs that need tapping down and the double bed mattress needs replacing as I kept rolling out of bed! As mentioned in a previous review the sofas are of good quality but very soft, I think they need restrapping under the seat cushions. A lamp in the lounge and twin bedroom would be great as would a working clock on the mantle piece. A guest book would also be good so guests can leave comments. The setting of the cottage is excellent for exploring Norfolk by car or train and Wymondham has excellent shops, restaurants and supermarkets. Despite these little hiccups we had a wonderful stay at this cottage.

We loved staying in this lovely cosy cottage, the delighful welcome basket of coffee , wine and biscuits was a lovely welcome and so very thoughtful.
We felt the owners really understood what guests would like ,extra towells bedding etc , especially a book full of local interest ,places worth visiting and arriving late knowing where to eat was a so helpful . The cottage is well equipped with instructions for use of boiler and general housekeeping info and a full working smart TV which was already set up . The position of the cottage was just great as we were able to travel conveniently by train on most of the days, Super visit to Great Yarmouth and Sheringham .Wymondham is such a pretty place and well worth a walk around to appreciate it , garden and patio was loved by our labrador who settled very well there. We would love to return to the area in the future . Thank you Sykes for all the valuable information you kindly sent in preparation for our stay, I have been so impressed that we will be looking into booking another stay with you next year or earlier if possible. Kind regards Chris and family.

Lovely, quaint cottage - just as described and a perfect base for exploring Norfolk.
Thank you for the hamper on arrival - a lovely, welcoming touch. Yes, the stairs are very narrow and steep - particularly in the middle of the night if a bathroom visit (downstairs) is required! The settees are very low and not easy to get out of when you're of a certain age. The shower (over the bath) was first class, although the bath itself was very slippery. However, the location was beautifully peaceful and we found a lovely shady haven at the end of the garden which, given this heatwave, was glorious. Having the station on our doorstep, we used the train for a visit to Norwich which as it only took under 15 minutes was perfect and saved the hassle of finding parking once there. We also took in a seal trip at Blakeney and would thoroughly recommend this - suitable for all ages and even well-behaved dogs are welcome. Advised to book in advance. Thank you for sharing your property - it was much appreciated and a welcome break.

We had a lovely week at this property and the welcome goodies were a kind touch.
We were a little bit apprehensive after reading some recent reviews but were pleasantly surprised on arrival. We found the cottage to be as advertised & we were mindful that it is an older property. Despite its age it was very warm and cosy & we enjoyed returning after fun days out. The proximity to the railway station was what appealed to us when we made the booking & we did head out on the train which was more relaxing than using the car every day. The Station Bistro a few steps away was enjoyable for both a breakfast & a lunch stop. One recommendation would be to provide fresh pillows (we bought a couple of new ones for our stay) but overall we enjoyed the cottage & had a much needed break. When any future updates are made to the cottage we feel that focusing on its proximity to the railway would be a great selling point - in terms of theming this quirky & quaint station cottage. Thanks for a super break.
