What our customers say about their holidays

We had an excellent weeks holiday at Challenger Lodge which we found ideal as a base for exploring the North coast of Scotland.
Our party consisted of three adults and one dog and had plenty of space since the accommodation sleeps up to 9 persons. Challenger Lodge is spacious, well appointed, classily decorated and clean. The property is set in a secluded location with open views out to the loch and surrounding hillsides yet only 5 minutes by car to the town of Lairg where there is a Spar supermarket, fish & chip take away, hotel with bar and petrol station. There are several local wooded walks, both on the estate and in the local area with one good walk to a very private Loch Craggie along a logging road. A welcoming pack of basic essentials was much appreciated on arrival and the owner Shanta, who was visiting the estate during our stay, thoughtfully brought a dog bowl, dog bed and dog treats. We will be looking to make a return visit in the near future with other members of the family as the property is excellent value for money.

Really lovely place to stay, extremely clean comfortable and finishing touches are beautiful throughout.
Pictures actually do not do it justice to be honest itâs a lot bigger than it looks and the kitchen is more beautiful in real life. Plenty of everything for use glasses, cutlery, plates etc. Wee garden is a lovely touch if the weather is nice just to sit and have a drink really peaceful and quiet. The cottage is situated on the main road and parking is free either on or across the road which is fantastic. However it is a main road and can be busy with traffic and cars pulling up to park and use the shop/takeaways but it is nice to a see a busy town. As the cottage window is lower people cannot directly see in the window and with the windows closed you do not hear them it did not bother us however I can see how it could if you are fussy. The cottage is really handy for everything if youâve had a long day you are 1 minute to any of the food places and the shop is next door. Would recommend :)

We had a lovely stay at Smithy House.
We were a multi generational family group with a dog. The cottage was cosy, warm and friendly. A great parlour kitchen for family meals and a cosy lounge for playing board games during the evening. The bedrooms were lovely and the beds were really comfortable. The boys enjoyed having the top floor to themselves :) The cottage is located close to the historical Kilmartin and we enjoyed walking to the stones and Cairns, then on to Kilmartin for a delicious pub lunch at the local Kilmartin Hotel. The cottage has easy access to many other activities and we were out every day, visiting Oban, Isle of Arran, Tarbert Castle, Avich Waterfalls and much more. It was easy to pop out to top up food supplies with Lochgilphead only 12 minutes away, having a petrol garage, Spar and a well stocked Co-op. So in summary we had a great holiday and would definitely recommend the place.

The location is amazing. The gardens and the beach are beautiful. The cottage was equipped with high quality kitchen ware, towels and bedding. The hosts are lovely and were very helpful sorting out a couple of issues. However, the cottage needed airing when we arrived as it was very musty. The heating is not easy to control as it is managed from the main house so we were constantly turning radiator thermostats up and down. The duvets are excellent quality but too warm for the summer and the duvet protectors used made them less comfortable, the beds are very comfortable. The living room is small for the number of people the house is designed for and the sofas are particularly uncomfortable. There is garden furniture but again not enough for the number of people staying. We would stay again as a smaller group as the location is beautiful.

Perfect retreat for escaping the rat race.
Secluded but close enough (5 min drive) to local village for supplies, fuel, chips! etc.. Perfect base to travel out from to explore the Highlands, in a week we managed Castle of Mae, John o Groats, Loch Ness, Inverness, Dunrobin castle, the North coast road to Durness, Glenmorangie Distillery. Barn owl was a regular visitor, we heard the deer around but they were too shy to show their faces. Property was spot on, enough hot water to fill Loch Shin, WiFi all over the house fast enough to feed several Netflix hungry tired offspring with more gadgets than NASA .. So much space inside that the 8 of us could find seclusion when needed easy enough. The only downside was leaving, will be back again as soon as I recover from the 10 hour trip from the Midlands..
