  Great house in a fantastic location. Very warm and comfortable and loved all the walks and wildlife. Unfortunately, the hottub was not working and whilst we were told about this a few days before arriving, from reading the visitor book, it's obvious the hottub hasn't worked much since the start of the year. We think it's disingenuous to keep marketing the hottub if its mostly not working! We also had no way to light the wood burner, as the gas lighter was empty and no matches provided. There were emergency matches but these were old and damp so of no use to us, or in an emergency. We tried the caretakers on all 3 of the numbers provided but received no callback despite leaving a voicemail. Given the isolated nature of the property perhaps a call from the caretaker when each guest has settled in would be helpful? The only form of contact from the house is a pay phone, which seems mean and impractical given many people don't carry cash these days. We very much enjoyed our stay but a few items above need attention. We had no difficulties but if we had, there is no real provision for emergencies.

  Absolutely gorgeous house, I hired the house for myself, husband and 9 friends to celebrate my husbands 50th birthday together. The house is tastefully decorated with different themes in each room, Considering there were 11 adults we never felt crammed in and could all sit comfortably around the dining table, that we wish we could have in our own home, Our friends loved all the furniture and joked that I would have to frisk them to ensure they hadn’t accidentally on purpose popped it in their case. Angela the owner was there to meet us when we arrived and gave us the key and was available with any questions we had. I would definitely recommend this house as a perfect place to stay for a large group of people in very opulent surroundings that is right in the centre of town so great for eating and drinking but also so close to some beautiful places to visit like the Greyfriars Trail and the historic golf club.   This was a wonderful experience. The water levels were very low, which meant we couldn't use the hot tub, and we had to think about eg not using the kettle and toaster simultaneously. But this was less of a challenge than you might imagine, as the "Everhot" cooker ran continually and did virtually everything - including toast bread and boil water. Our stay in the house included the day of the 2024 general election - and so the absence of a tv signal, wifi or mobile phone coverage was a positive. We really enjoyed the glen and the loch, and hired bikes at the Glentrool hive (£35 for a full day each) to cycle the loch and the paths among the woods. We loved the quiet. We'd love to come back.

  My partner and I have fallen in love with the Buchan and are already looking at booking our next trip. We got married at the Bruce's stone during our stay so it will always hold a special place in our hearts - the hill the house looks out to is simply stunning. The house was very comfortable, spacious, warm and welcoming. We didn't struggle with the electric or keeping it warm, we did visit in February so maybe it's harder when the water supply isn't as strong. We LOVED being so remote and not having internet or phone signal. We also met the neighbours from the property down the road and they were very friendly and welcoming so that was nice!

  Staying at Granary Lodge was an excellent experience for me, my partner and our one year old Labrador Oscar. The location of the lodge is truly amazing with views to die for all day every day. And even when it’s dark the night skies are equally incredible. The lodge has everything you need for a ‘home away from home’ stay. The local beaches are quiet and the nearby towns have a good range of things to do and see so you don’t really have to go far. Overall this was one of the most relaxing holidays we’ve ever had and have every intention of going back at some point.
