What our customers say about their holidays
Amy - Verified booking
The property seemed generally well maintained and there was plenty of space for us.
There were only 3 of us and a dog so it was fine, but considering it caters for 6 you would have had to share 3 wine glasses between you if it had been 3 couples staying. It was very cosy with lovely reclining sofas and comfortable beds. We chose a lodge with a Smart TV as we thought the weather might be bad and our 5 year old could watch his favourite programmes. The smart tv existed but it was never going to work as there was no Wifi connection to the lodge. Sykes brought us a dongle and to be fair to Sykes they did their best but you canât make something work that doesnât exist. Booking activities etc online was very difficult because the wifi was practically non existent on the site and I feel we were misled with this being one of the selling points. Our own mobile data wouldnât work either because of the location. The owner would have no control over this but it needs pointing out to future visitors. I found out that our stay would have been almost £500 cheaper had we gone the following week, and I now think we have been ripped off because we didnât get anything extra for the £500, Iâm not sure how that price difference can be justified and it leaves us with a negative feeling. The lodge was generally clean but we did find 5 sticky sweet wrappers and broken bits of toys that had been left by previous visitors, however everything else was spotless and it felt clean. The dog bowl was a nice touch and everything was there that you would need, including tea bags and washing up liquid, towels etc. We brought our own but it was nice to know we would have managed if we had forgotten anything. Thereâs a nice wood for walking the dog on site but nowhere you can have them off the lead. We paid for swimming passes but the pool was fully booked on a number of occasions so be careful if you think youâll get to swim every day. Itâs a great location, close to lots of nice places to visit. The site actually let the lodge down, because if the swimming had been available, the on-site resort staff had been helpful and friendly, the restaurant hadnât been way overpriced for what you got (most of the menu was out of stock too), and the wifi had been working I would have given a much higher rating. I have no issue with Sykes and would book through them again. Out of school holidays I think this would probably be a lovely place to visit.

This is our third time to tell you this feedback the lack of contact is very concerning.
Customer service is very poor. It is with great sadness that I have to write to you today to highlight our disappointment with The Wodge 10 Consiton at White Cross Bay. We arrived on Monday the 27th of May with great enthusiasm for our 4 night stay. On arrival everything appeared ok however, as the hours unfold things quickly deteriorated and problems were encountered. The decking to the property was very unkept and a safe hazard due to it being unswept and most of all rotten in a majority of places. The crockery and glasses was greasy and needed to be washed before being used. The Property is sold as having WIFI provided by the park, the TV failed to work on arrival due to: A) no batteries in the remotes B) no signal for the to the collect stations I contact the customer care line and was given a reference number COR-379028-CF, however to date I am still awaiting response. The reception desk tells us directly that the club WIFI is useless unless in the club house â¦. So why therefore are you advising it as free WIFI? The lodge is missing 4 light bulbs and a flickering light bulb! However this is minimum considering the leaks in the kitchen which has already blown one kitchen unit and caused a leak down the wall!! Due to the weather this week it has caused several morning clean ups! The carpet with the lodge is filthy to say the least! The stains are disturbing there are blood stains on a table and itâs never seen a duster! The fabric sofas are old and could benefit from a good clean! The toilet brushes are a health hazard! (Iâve saved you pictures of these as Iâm not willing to even touch them again!). The bathroom fans were a disgrace! Only 3 mirrors in the property 2 in the bathrooms and 1 in the living area ⦠the only place to dry hair and apply makeup! Please find enclosed photographs of our findings to endorse this email. You will was from my booking history that this is not my first time of booking with Sykes however this was a major disappointment compared to previous stays, a very disappointing experience had by 6 people and one pampered pooch for the £927 pounds paid for 4 nights! This property is never 4*!

We enjoyed our time at Wykefield.
We think it's important to highlight that some pictures of the outside of the property on the website are misleading. You see the whole house structure, but half of the building is the "Esk Wyke Country House Hotel". The windows facing out the downstairs 'nook', the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom all overlook the hotel car park. People are coming and going from there at all hours. You should be aware of that prior to booking. The main attraction of the house is the extension with the elongated dining room and kitchen which is lovely. The extra fridge-freezer in the garage is not mentioned in the description and would have been really useful to have known about when planning food to take. The tennis table in the garage is not very nice and bendy, so wasn't useable. The beds were comfortable. Despite the water being non-mains supplied, the pressure was great and reliable. The appliances all worked well and we liked the utilities. There's lots of board games, DVDs, maps, interesting books and a well-equipped kitchen. As pleasant, well equipped and thought out as the house is, we feel it's expensive for what you get. There's no proper games room or other facilities that for £2,500/week you should be getting at this range. This is a nice house, and a really great stay, but not at this cost. Especially with the hotel at peak season next door, with their suite windows overlooking the garden you're relaxing in. It's a well-placed location with several walks, towns and facilities nearby. It's of note that Beatrix Potter stayed in this house (prior to it being half hotel) and decided she wanted to live in the Lakes because of it! Esthwaite Water, which the garden overlooks, is privately owned and inaccessible so it's for view only. Overall, this is a good stay but pricey for what you get.

This was our first Christmas away from home, with family.
Which we had been really looking forward to. The main issue for us was, we had no hot water for a weekâs stay. We used the contact provided several times to raise the issue. The guy who maintains the property came out once on the 23rd December, he was nice but not a plumber, he asked us to let him know if we continued with cold water, which we did, but unfortunately heard nothing back from him or the booking agent who we had been contacting directly! It is not much fun trying to boil water for warm washes for a family of 8! Or taking a cold shower. Half our party left after 4 days, we all left before the week had ended cutting the break short. As I said, we had gone to the property for Christmas so it was also disappointing to find no decorations or even a little Christmas tree. The property is spacious, does need an update without a doubt and the smaller living room is freezing. The kitchen is decently equipped and towels, bed linen are provided. There is only one small TV in the property, so if you are a family that enjoy games consoles or watching TV, that may be an issue. The views from the property are amazing and the local village Pooley bridge is lovely and dig friendly with lovely walks. I wouldnât stay again, due to the issues and need for upgrade, if that was taken care of it would be a lovely place to stay.

As soon as we walked in we were hit with a smell (i think it was the ensuite shower waste).
My son tried to put the tv on to find the aerial on the floor, after I inspected it, it appears the part that attaches to the tv had snapped off. The washing machines handle has broke so you can't use that, and the external cupboard door to the washer needs sorting as it clatters with the draws. We then went and took various pictures (so they're time dated) so we didn't get the blame. I'd rather deal face on with people so I tried the number from the welcome folder..... got a recorded message saying use the website. Tried emailing the address from the folder..... to basically be told it's not monitored. Lastly I was having a WhatsApp conversation with a person called Rose, but because the Internet is so bad there (or she finished) I never finished explaining all the problems. We feel very let down by the company as I would've insisted that we changed cabins, I have lots of pictures and time dated documents to back up everything I've said. This was supposed to be an amazing new year getaway but my wife wanted to go straight back home ! With some basic maintenance this would be a nice little holiday but the condition it's in at the minute it's not worth the money. Happy to pass on the photos and a snagging list if it would help.
