What our customers say about their holidays

For a dog owner, the cottage is in the perfect location.
It is easy to walk out onto Burbage Moor without crossing a single road, just up the garden and over the stile, through the woodland and you're there. In fact, walking out to the NT Cafe a couple of miles away only requires two road crossings! The garden is quite dog-safe although I daresay a medium sized dog could jump the wall if it put its mind to it. The cottage is a good size, the bathroom, sitting room and main bedroom are huge. The second bedroom is adequate and the kitchen, whilst compact, was big enough for our requirements. The cottage has a superb heating system and holds the heat well, despite the stone floor. Contrary to the published information, there is a dishwasher in the kitchen. There is also a washing machine, but it is in an outhouse which, frankly, was disgustingly dirty. We decided against using it! Our visit was November so we didn't take advantage of the small courtyard where there is a table and chairs but I imagine that would be pleasant although I doubt it gets much sun. The windows all have secondary glazing so road noise wasn't a problem for us. There is a pub literally five minutes away which is excellent. Hathersage is about a mile (downhill) which is fine going down... I'd be happy to stay there again so am also happy to recommend it.

We had a lovely stay fantastic view from the kitchen and court yard.
We did note the water when running in kitchen was I believe to have an air lock as it bumbled throughout the Barn when water used, bedrooms very clean as well as the beds, the first bedroom was very tight for space and would be better to have a single bed. The en suite toilet seat was loose, bathroom could do with de- moulding around shower door and tiles on bath. There were a lot of cobweb webs which have been there a long while in dining area toward kitchen on beam and on stair well window I do have photos if required, Candles look alike need to have new batteries and on outside fairy lights. The Barn information sheet should be left in the Barn as not many people will print off a hard copy ( I left mine for the next group). The most noticeable problem was the access to the Barn I appreciate this is the nature of the build but instead of building a new patio area I feel a new parking area closer to the office (old diary) would be more practicable as it is a long steep hill back and forth with luggage, you are defiantly fit after the stay!! While a few highlighted mentions I would go back and thank you for the welcome pack it was most appreciated and a lovely gesture.

Broadwood Barn is beautiful, well equipped and comfortable.
Downstairs is very spacious and the outside area fabulous for children to play and potter around on ride on trikes. Calves came up to the window at the rear of the living room and peered in much to the delight of our grandchildren. It is important to know that anyone with mobility problems would find the path down to the barn very difficult and toddlers would have a problem. Just getting our luggage and shopping up and down was a major issue. Fortunately we had 2 large and fit sons on hand to help. I booked the barn and farm for a family get together. We are a fit 65+ Couple with no health issues so disregarded the warning about the path. Do so at your peril! Finally bring earplugs. The trains sound their horns as they approach the crossing at the bottom of the field. It was very warm during our stay and we kept windows open. Even with them closed we were disturbed at 4am.

We enjoyed our stay at Broadwood Barn.
However there are a few issues. It cannot be underestimated the path from the car down to the barn as has been said in previous postings. It is long and steep and as we were battling illness this week, we found transporting our luggage exhausting. Even fit and healthy people would find this a challenge. There are a few things needed in the barn such as more mugs. There are only 6. No cups or anything else. The sink could do with a bowl. The mattress in the main bedroom is very soft. Not good if you have a bad back. The other two bedrooms are bland and lack storage and bedside tables. The views from the outer parts of the property are outstanding. There are no views from the inner parts of the property and only from the kitchen window. However, we did enjoy our stay at the barn and the beautiful Peak District.

The cottage was lovely and clean when we arrived.
It was also lovely and warm, starter pack of logs, matches and firelighters, great to be able to light the woodburner straight away as it was very cold weather. The cottage sits between 2 roads but luckily the traffic is very light/ nothing overnight. You can hear the traffic closing the wooden shutters at night helps reduce noise. Unfortunately the boiler makes rather a lot of noise which you hear overnight in the little bedroom ( we turned the thermostat right down so the heating wasn't on but boiler still noisy) Cottage in great location for walking, only short drive to Edale and Mam Tor great days out walking. If your a swimmer like me the highlight is the Lido in Hathersage, kept at 23 degrees during the winter, evening swim in the dark with pretty lights around the pool is magical
