What our customers say about their holidays

For a dog owner, the cottage is in the perfect location.
It is easy to walk out onto Burbage Moor without crossing a single road, just up the garden and over the stile, through the woodland and you're there. In fact, walking out to the NT Cafe a couple of miles away only requires two road crossings! The garden is quite dog-safe although I daresay a medium sized dog could jump the wall if it put its mind to it. The cottage is a good size, the bathroom, sitting room and main bedroom are huge. The second bedroom is adequate and the kitchen, whilst compact, was big enough for our requirements. The cottage has a superb heating system and holds the heat well, despite the stone floor. Contrary to the published information, there is a dishwasher in the kitchen. There is also a washing machine, but it is in an outhouse which, frankly, was disgustingly dirty. We decided against using it! Our visit was November so we didn't take advantage of the small courtyard where there is a table and chairs but I imagine that would be pleasant although I doubt it gets much sun. The windows all have secondary glazing so road noise wasn't a problem for us. There is a pub literally five minutes away which is excellent. Hathersage is about a mile (downhill) which is fine going down... I'd be happy to stay there again so am also happy to recommend it.

Excellent location, quiet yet a short stroll into Hathersage for all its amenities.
Cottage was immaculate, tastefully decorated and the welcome goods + prosecco were very considerate. It was very comfortable, all slept well+ we spent lots of time enjoying the view from the terraced garden and sitting on the sunny bench at the front. Great water pressure from showers + the bath was a bonus. Having the en-suite + family bathroom was perfect for the 5 of us. We would highly recommend this property. We enjoyed walking straight from the house to the stunning Stanage Edge, hired bikes to do the Monsal trail (Hassop Station does excellent food + traybakes) + visited quaint Bakewell. Recommend sitting outside having coffee at Coleman's Deli, excellent meal + service at Bank House, drinks at the Scotsman's pack by the river + if you can, book a swim at the outdoor heated pool. (Booking opens 7am on Fri for the week ahead) Another highlight was rescuing 2 ducklings with a neighbour as they had lost mum+ waddled up to the garden, but were happily reunited! (Re parking, we found it easy enough to park on the main road which is just a minute or two's walk away as it was tight to get in + out in our estate car.) We will definitely return as left with more we wanted to do! Thanks again.

It is clear that care and attention have been given to the renovation of the property.
The location is beautiful and the house has everything you'd need for your stay. However, there were several factors that fell short of expectations. On arrival a lot of the kitchen equipment was dirty and required washing before use. I would recommend a thorough deep clean of all kitchen items and some maintenance work on the dishwasher. The single bedroom is incredibly small and this was not clear from the advert. Only really suitable for a child or very short adult. The 09:30 check out was unexpected and seemed unreasonably early given normal check out from accommodation is usually 11:00. Throughout the property there were various strange smells, especially noticeable in the smaller of the two double rooms. The smell was a weird mix of stale/musty but also vinegar. The bottom of the stairs is too small and a design flaw in the property for a high footfall area in the house. This is accentuated by the shoe cupboard further obstructing a pinch point in the corridor. Although the house manual is explicit about guests being quiet after 22:00 in your instructions the neighbours were very noisy after midnight.

The property was immaculate.
Very high standard. Kitchen had everything we needed. The garden was beautiful. We sat on the mid section and had a glass of wine looking at the cows and hills beyond. Very pretty location. The neighbors were all really friendly, made us feel welcome. Tv had Netflix so we were all really happy. Itâs difficult to please a 15 year old boy and 8 year old girl! The car port had 2 spaces. The lane is narrow leading up to property but and a few moves later and we got in! We have a Tiguan which is not small and it was ok. We especially loved the Prosecco, bread, milk, teas and coffee!! So grateful for these extra touches it gave us a real feeling of being looked after on our holiday. The area is perfect lovely little village with good selection of pubs Scotsman pack was a favourite. Bank house brilliant for outdoor evening drinks and Sangams the curry house. Loved these. It really was excellent for Stannage edge walk straight out of the door and close to Edale and Castleton. Both 20 minutes in the car. Absolutely love the peaks we will return.

Orchard View is a stunning property and refurbished to a very high standard, and situated in a pretty little town which is a perfect location to explore the beautiful surrounding area.
Could not fault the house at all, lovely decor and everything catered for. However the only fly in the ointment was the parking arrangements, the website was updated with 'only suitable for small cars' after I had booked the property, which was for my family of 4 and two eldery parents. Luckily we managed to squeeze our car (not that small) into one of the parking spaces but my parents did not even attempt as their car was longer than ours. The website says plenty of parking 100 yards away, this is not the case - my parents had to park on the road, but quite a walk away from the house as the road outside was always at full capacity. I would suggest, 'parking on road on first come first served basis' would be more accurate. Having said that I would recommend the property as it's so lovely - but parking can be an issue. Very much appreciated the welcome basket which was a lovely touch.
