What our customers say about their holidays
Mrs Smith - Verified booking
Whilst a group of friends had a lovely weekend and this house has bags of potential, we felt it is currently in need of some tlc, and that unfortunately, it wouldn’t be on our list to return to. The property had quite a lot of cobwebs and lots of obvious dust on lamps, panelling, etc that needed attention. We thought the furniture was very mismatched in places and was disappointed that there was no kindling for the fire, or logs in the internal basket upon arrival, despite emailing to ask and being told that they were supplied, earlier in the week. I wasn’t expecting to have to scrabble in the dark, to find the log store on the first night, to not be able to use the fire due to no kindling whatsoever! It was disappointing to find the hot tub cold upon arrival, despite the house showing as being available on the website calendars during the week. It would have been nice, given the money paid and availability in the diary, for this to have been set up earlier so was ready for use at the arrival time. I wasn’t made aware in any of the booking information that a ring doorbell would be I situ and this felt very intrusive when we arrived. We felt the sink hand soaps and radox shower gels left in the bathrooms, were of poor quality and not what you would expect to find in a property like this and the offering could be improved. Operating instructions for the property were not easily available/couldn’t be found, and we noticed drawers were full of junk when looking for these. Organisation and the provision of useful information could be improved. Basics such as tin foil and cling film were not provided and are would recommend these are supplied. The lights around the hot tub are annoying! Initially they stay on for a period of time but then flick on and off constantly due to the sensor. There should be an option to override these to be constantly on, especially at this time of year. Although we did flag this, nothing was able to be done to mitigate this issue during our stay.

We have just returned from an absolutely fantastic week at Ings Barn and would book again in a heartbeat! Location wise the property is great, it's a 10 minute drive into Settle and most of the sights of the Dales are well within an hour. There's a friendly pub a few minutes walk away and we walked Pen-y-ghent (one of the three Yorkshire peaks) right from the barn. There is a road beside the property and while there is obiviously some traffic the house blocks virtually all the sound and it didn't bother us at all. The barn has been really beautifully converted and decorated, we've holidayed in a lot of properties and this is hands-down the nicest - the photos genuinely don't do the rooms justice, especially the main lounge which is a far nicer, bigger space than we expected. The beds are enourmous and so comfortable I made a note of the mattress so we could replace ours at home, the linens were super soft and smelled amazing (would love to know what detergent is being used!) and there were plenty of pillows. Bedrooms all had good storage space and both bathrooms well fitted out. We really couldn't think of a single thing that wasn't provided in the barn - there's a properly fitted out kitchen so we were able to cook without struggling for implements etc. as you often do, plenty of tea and coffee including pods, tea towels and dishwasher tablets etc. There were some games and the alexa speaker was a nice touch. We made plenty of use of the hottub which was super clean, nice and hot and secluded with the lid hiding the tub from the road. The tub has a wonderful view over fields which for our trip were full of lambs which we loved.

A very special place It is hard to put into words just how special High Hall is.
This is not a run of the mill holiday home. Quite apart from the magnificence of such a historic building, and the incredible location overlooking the Wharfe Valley, the level of detail that has gone into making the holiday experience unique is astounding. The accommodation is majestic yet very comfortable. The bedrooms and bathrooms are sumptuous with rainforest showers and a high tech whirlpool bath. (The master bedroom has a door on to the Minstrelsâ Gallery - how cool is that?) The kitchen is extremely well equipped and a beautiful room to spend time in, especially in the morning. (The two dishwashers are a godsend.) The dining hall is grand enough for a celebration dinner but comfortable enough for an informal supper on other nights. We were thrilled to be able to use a very special dinner service on the Saturday evening depicting an artistâs impression of High Hall; I have never come across a holiday home that allows guests to use such precious items. We were also really pleased that there was enough glassware to cater for our event. We were lucky in that the weather was hot and sunny and we were able to make good use of the expansive garden, hot tub and summer house. Again, the attention to detail here was second to none; the owners had even provided yoga mats in the studio. It was a truly special holiday for all of us and I am sure that I will never again enjoy my birthday as much as I did at High Hall.

Our stay at High Hall was a terrific success - we hoped for comfort, space, and a touch of luxury, and we found all three in spades.
You know those estate agent's pictures taken with wide-angle lenses that leave you feeling disappointed when you arrive? Well, High Hall is the opposite - you walk in through the front door and it unfolds and reveals itself as you explore, with a sense of spaciousness everywhere. The owners have refurbished and equipped the house sensitively, finding just the right balance between preserving its historic character and providing comfort and modern convenience. There's something to enjoy in every room, often in every nook and cranny, and much to enjoy in the outside space and facilities too. Our party enjoyed the hot tub on a freezing winter night, for example. It's a great place for a family or friends gathering - enough large well-equipped rooms for everyone to gather together, but also with enough space, and large rooms, for anyone to find peace and quiet in a corner when they need it. Be prepared for a bit of quirkiness (it's been standing a long time, and it's Grade 2* listed for good reasons), pay attention to the incredibly detailed care and guidance prepared by the owners, and the house will repay you. It's in a beautiful location, too, and we were blessed with glorious winter weather, but there's no chance you'd feel claustrophobic if bad weather kept you indoors. We were praying we'd be snowed in at the end of our week, but alas, we had to leave.

We chose to stay at High Hall for a week, as our son was getting married in the area, and this property could accommodate a large number of our family.
We were absolutely delighted with our choice. High Hall is an outstanding historical property, sympathetically maintained, yet also designed to provide all guests with a luxury experience. The hosts have gone to extreme lengths to ensure comfort is guaranteed, especially in the bedrooms, where natural linens dressed the relaxing beds. Tasteful and authentic interiors throughout this amazing property added to our holiday experience, and as we were staying during the Christmas season, we were privileged to see the glorious tree, which reached high up to the gallery landing, in the main hall. Whilst we did not make use of the landscaped gardens, due to the time of year, we could admire the incredible details created within it, such as the yoga room, carp pond, hedging, lawns, herb gardens and sculptures. Some of our party very much enjoyed the hot tub, which was positioned close to the house. The host provides a detailed booklet of processes and procedures, to ensure guests can easily understand how to operate the various systems and therefore get the best from their stay. High Hall offered us an incredibly unique experience. Thank you Ken.
