What our customers say about their holidays

  • Kate - Verified booking

We were delighted with our stay at Stonerush Lakes.

The lodge itself is very spacious and bright and airy. The bed was comfy, but the bedroom got extremely hot overnight (not sure why as the heating was not on) and it's not possible to leave the windows open overnight as they are basically doors! Bed frame was a little creaky so might just need some of the bolts adjusting. The bath in the bedroom was lovely, and right in front of a window (not overlooked) so easy to relax there for a few hours if you're amphibious like me! There are two shower rooms which was unexpected, both have amazing, large showers in. The living / dining / kitchen is well equipped, however the kitchen could do with some baking trays for the oven. TV was good size and has HDMI cables running in so I was able to connect my laptop and stream from Sky Go so we didn't miss the grand prix. Best part of the lodge is undoubtedly the terrace though, it has a beautiful view whilst also remaining very private, and the furniture out there was all in great condition and comfortable, perfect to sit and drink a coffee in the morning. The hot tub was great - being sunken allows you to enjoy the view. Only downside was that it requested no glass to be used in/arund the hob tub (which I 100% agree with, having smashed a glass in a hot tub previously - no fun at all!) however there are no plastic alternatives available. Could do with a few plastic wine glasses / champagne flutes for use in the hot tub! The road into Stonerush wasn't as bad as I thought it might be based on the other reviews, however do ensure that you approach from the right direction, as Google Maps took is the wrong way on approach from Looe. There is absolutely no signal there whatsoever, so best to ensure you have WiFi calling turned on on your phones before you arrive. We tried to order food for takeaway from the on site restaurant only to be turned away on the first night. I called the next day to place the order very early (midday for a 7.30pm pick up) and we arrived to collect on time, it seems that they hadn't started prepping it at all and we had to wait a good 15 minutes to get the food (two burgers), when we got back there were items missing from the order but we couldn't be bothered to go back after all the fuss. Service here could be improved. Would also be useful if they sold some essentials in there like milk / wine / etc. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable few days away, in a beautiful and peaceful location. Would love to come back some time :)

We booked the lodge for my 30th birthday along with another lodge for my family to come and celebrate with me.

Upon arrival the lady told us that one of our lodges had been double booked so there was nowhere for 6 of our party to stay. We then wasted the first day of our holiday worrying and panicking as we didn't know how to resolve the issue. After about 5 hours of waiting around we were then told by the staff that they have found another lodge on a site 20 minutes away. This would mean 2 of our party staying on site and the majority moving to a site 20 minutes away which is massively inconvenient. This upset our party, especially my Mom who cried. After another couple of hours of waiting the lady returned and said she has found 2 lodges on site which can accommodate the 6 people but there were several issues including no hot tub in one lodge and the other lodges hot tub not working. Both lodges had no garden furniture so we couldn't enjoy the amazing weather on the decking. Ironing boards were broken and one of the lodges had no blinds over some of the doors which invaded our privacy. We were also only provided one towel per person for the whole week. After all this initial drama which ruined our holiday and my 30th birthday celebrations, we have only been offered as compensation a refund of £155 which Sykes told us was the booking fee for one lodge. This is embarrassing as it is only £20 per person (8 of us). We spent over £1300 on the lodges and we haven't even received an apology. We have used Stonerush Lakes for the past few years but this experience has totally ruined our loyalty. My plans before this experience was to rebook for my partners 30th birthday in August but I am having to source alternative accommodation because of the way we have been treated. When we arrived at the site we felt the staff were unapologetic and made sarcastic comments towards our party which is surprising when we were expecting a warm welcome after a 6 hour drive. We were also told that the site knew about the double booking for over a week but we were only notified upon arrival which is unacceptable. I would like a response to this feedback on 07469932194 or zac4wba@gmail.com. We were so disappointed because our previous stays were excellent

We stayed in lake view 6 for 4 nights.

The woman (I’m sorry I don’t know your name!) with dark hair on reception was so welcoming and lovely. The lodge was beautiful as was the landscape surrounding it. The interior was well decorated and the utilities were good. The hot tub was a personal favourite of my partners! The welcome pack with tea bags and coffees was well stocked and the complimentary soap bags were too. However we had some concerns with a few elements of the lodge. The TV controller was next to unresponsive in the bedroom and the one in the living room was broken and taped back together. The bed was very creaky; we were afraid to roll over. The extractor fan in the en-suite bathroom didn’t work so the room filled with steam very quickly. One thing we would have liked was an outdoor light; as it’s December the sun goes down at about half 4 and you can’t use the hot tub later than that without the little light in the hot tub which doesn’t provide enough. I opened one of the windows in the living room and about 7 dead flies came in with the wind. Along with this, the directions the app gave me took us to the wrong place and the only way we found it was when we rung reception! However once we arrived we rung the same number to book a table at the restaurant and a very annoyed man picked up from a security company that had nothing to do with the reception! We tried emailing but the email was not found. I rung the same number 3 days later and reception picked up! So we were very confused about that. Although the hassle to book a table was a lot, once we booked and got to the restaurant, it was amazing! The quiet little restaurant was well decorated and the food was absolutely delicious! The food came out quick and hot and tasty, hats off to the restaurant team! Our details were taking by a lovely lady (again sorry I don’t know your name!) with blonde hair which made me feel safe as they were still delivering brilliant service despite the pandemic! Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay with this company, however, we just wished a few more final checks were completed in our accommodation before our arrival to make it perfect.

    Peacful environment, lovely setting.

The location of the lodges are away from any amenities. There is was no signal in the lodge, which caused an issues when trying to contact someone. Our toilet broke one evening and continued to make a loud noise throughout the night. My partner and I had to sleep in the living room to enable us to get some rest. We were able to find a staff member in the morning and the toilet could not be used for the remainder of the stay. We had two toilets in the lodge so this was not an issue. The lodge itself had a great layout. There was second bedroom which was locked and did not look in a good state. The hot tub was a great extra. It would have been better if there was a light around the hot tub area. Also the temperature of the hot tub prevented us enjoying it as much as we would have liked. The Cleanliness of the lodge was poor in some areas. There was visible thick dust covering base of the bedside table lights. There was thick dust on the sides of the bed and the posts above the bed and some of the spotlights around the lodge. There were dog biscuits dotted around on the floor also. The mattress was stained with what looked like blood spots at the top of the mattress. The towels and dressing gowns were fresh and crisp. There was a little box left in the kitchen with dishwasher soap, a bin bag, sponge and bits and bobs to make coffee. This was a great touch. There were also little bags of shampoo, conditioner, lotion and a shower cap which was also great. The heating filled the lodge fast which made it cosy when it got slightly cold outside and the heated towel Hangers were great also. The pub on site provide lovely food, each night I tried something new and I was never disappointed. There was always great presentation of the food and the taste was fantastic and a lovely setting. The lady who worked on the bar for the majority of our stay was pleasant and helpful. The lodge would be a 5* for me if the issues raised above were actioned. When I pay £200 a night I would expect Cleanliness to be a given. Other than that my partner and I enjoyed our four night stay.

I’ll start by saying that we had a fantastic week’s holiday, however the lodge was disappointing and not what we’d imagined from the photos.

It has so much potential to be a gorgeous lodge but as recent reviews show, there desperately needs to be some upgrading/ maintenance done. On entry there was a sticker over the door showing it was Covid safe and had been cleaned - this was merely procedure I’d imagine as when we entered the lodge there was an empty sweet wrapper and tissue wrapper left. There was also food stains left on the dishwasher door and the fridge had clearly not been cleaned on the inside. There are gorgeous skylight windows in the kitchen and bathroom, however it’s evident they have not been cleaned in a long, long time. The broken shelf in the fridge is annoying as you can’t store bottles there - this really wouldn’t take long to fix. The mattress on the bed also desperately needs to be replaced as it’s so uncomfortable and really dips into the middle. Overall, the cleanliness of the entire lodge just wasn’t up to scratch, particularly given we are in Covid times. I had taken cleaning products with me so cleaned where needed on arrival (not exactly what you want to do when on holiday!). If you are booked to go here I’d advise you do the same. The decking area and hot tub are amazing. We took a foldable wooden table with us as I had noticed on photos that the furniture on the decking does not include a table, which isn’t handy if you want to eat sitting outside. Again, just a small detail which would greatly add to the comfort of your stay. The location of the lodge is really brilliant. We did a wine tour/ tasting, visited places like Looe, Polperro, Charlestown, The Eden Probect and the Jamaica Inn whilst there. No where was more than around 30minutes drive. Overall, we wouldn’t return to this particular lodge and definitely wouldn’t rate it as 4 stars which is what Sykes rate it.
