What our customers say about their holidays
Louise - Verified booking
The house was nice holiday was ok.
We expected to go to the middle of nowhere and have a peaceful holiday but they are building a new house adjoined to this one and workmen came every day at 8 am to start work on the house. Was expecting nice views from the windows but fences and building equipment all over the place at the back and vans parked right outside the bedroom window so had to keep blinds shut constantly so not much privacy. My dogs are very barky if they see people and folk walking by the windows (workmen) and random people coming to the door looking for the owner didnât help wanting a peaceful time away from home. They also kept leaving the gate open and I have two dogs and there are sheep about and I was worried they were going to get the sheep that were wandering around the road. The house itâs self was ok. There is a few faults that need fixing eg. The bath plug doesnât open had to get the guy to come fix it and he used a knife to open it which we had to do to empty the water, the extractor fan in the en suit doesnât work and drips and gets the floor all wet, the microwave crackles when you try to use it, the sinks in the bathrooms are wobbly. There isnât a usable freezer in the house I ordered shopping to be delivered when we got there and there was only space for one bag of ice for drinks. Donât buy anything that is freezable when ordering your shopping. The house was pretty clean apart from the bath which needed a good scrubbing of the jets as they were embedded with grime and a few run through of water to clean the pipes was pretty filthy, black chunky bits eww. The air fryer was dirty so didnât use that everything else was spot on. Kitchen has all equipment you would need to make meals. Bed was super comfy. Garden is huge good for the dogs. Itâs nicely decorated shame about all the problems.

Cedar Cottage was an absolute delight to stay in.
We found the position of Cedar to be really good because you had the views of the mountains in the glen, but also the pond. We have never stayed in a self catering property that was this clean upon arrival. The bed was comfy and so was the sofa. We felt we had a good level of privacy too, despite being amongst seven other cottages. Noise was not an issue. In fact, the only noise you would hear would be the sound of a Curlew or an Oystercatcher her or an Owl. We saw many red squirrels. In fact, the most red squirrels we have ever seen. The enclosed paddock behind 3 of the lodges was an absolutely awesome addition when you have a dog. This allowed for our dog to play safely with other dogs, socialise with the dogs, at the same time whilst we relaxed. But you do also have your own section of garden that is fully enclosed and private. We felt the lodge was mostly well equipped in the kitchen. We would suggest adding a mixing bowl for those that want to bake. And a yorkshire pudding tray of course. They do provide lovely scottish made toiletries and upon arrival, you receive a really lovely welcome pack. The walk down to the falls is lovely. There is a lot to do locally but bear in mind, despite being on the A9 road, you are isolated to some degree. We arranged for a Tesco delivery on the following day and we stocked up on fuel. The owners are really friendly here and helpful and always available on hand. Places we would suggest visiting are Pattack Falls, Cairn Gorm, Green loch, Creag Meagaidh, Aberfeldy, Blair Atholl etc. Aviemore is very dog friendly. We would visit again for sure. And we would actually choose to stay in Cedar again. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Really loved your cosy cottage and the surrounding area was simply outstanding.
Air was clean and fresh and the garden was very peaceful. Fabulous views from every room towards the Cairngorm Mountains. The cottage had a very homely feel, really loved the Aga in the kitchen and the open fireplace in the lounge made the evenings very relaxing. It was great to have Sky tv in all the main rooms and the wi-fi worked very well. We didn't need a thing in terms of cooking equipment, bedding or towels. House is very close to Loch Insh where we enjoyed all the water sports on offer and we spent a fascinating day at the Highland Folk Museum just up the road past Kingussie. Aviemore is a great little town with a good range of shops, restaurants and supermarkets. We enjoyed a ride on the Strathspey steam train which departs from Aviemore Station thrice daily for a return trip to Broomhill. The farm shop at Rothiemurchus was also outstanding and we hired bikes for a wander up the mountains nearby. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thankyou very much for the time we spent at Baldow Cottage. We'd certainly love to return, already thinking about dates for next summer....

An Torr is in a fantastic location.
The Glen hotel is easily walkable for a night cap and though the shop is further away it's a flat walk and very pleasant. Loads to do in the local area. We were 2 families with 2, 6 and 7 year old children and they had a ball. Feeding the reindeer was magical and Loch Morlich was so beautiful. On rainy days there are a couple of soft plays within easy driving distance but we were lucky so were outside most of the time. The Balavil hotel has a small indoor swimming pool which was great fun but it does get really busy so go early evening to avoid the hoards! The Highland Folk museum is huge and we went twice, and the Highland Wildlife park was a lovely jaunt too. The Landmark Centre in Carrbrige was a huge hit. Pricey to get in but it really is a whole day affair so that makes it worth the money. The house itself was tremendously well equipped; warm, cosy and really relaxing after a day out. The only downside was the downstairs twin bedroom was noisy if people moving about or having a shower upstairs.

The cottage we stayed in - Douglas Fir - was comfortable and cosy, important as we arrived during a cold March.
The facilities within the cottage; heating, log fire, hot water, kitchen facilities etc were already setup for us so we had nothing to do but just unpack and start exploring the countryside. It was clear the cottage(s) are kept to a very high standard of cleanliness between guests - even allowing that dogs are allowed. A couple of times we needed extra fire logs but this was sorted within minutes by Adam. All in all we had a very welcome break here and would thoroughly recommend to anyone. Adam and Leanne are always around and on hand in case there are any issues which - to be honest - we didn't have. Highland Cottages generally is a great jumping off point to explore the Highlands and their close proximity to the A9 is actually an advantage if you want to go further afield than the local walks (a stone marking the centre of Scotland is within easy walking distance). The surroundings are stunning enough that you could even stay the whole day around the cottage and just enjoy the views.
