  Excellent location and tastefully presented lodge, close to the adjoining Warren site where all the amenities are.

  Well equipped kitchen. Outside deck a lovely space. Didn’t use the barbecue but one was provided. Hot tub was also very good. Negatives: TV was a big issue for us as there was no terrestrial TV in the lounge and that was when we could connect with the site Wi-Fi, which was off more than it was on. We spent far too much time trying to sort this and on calls to Sykes who didn’t have the answers to resolve the issues, although they were helpful and kept us informed, to no avail though. Radio provided but that depended on Wi-Fi too it seemed as that kept cutting out. No instructions for any equipment, particularly the TV/Wi-Fi, hot tub, washer/dryer. This would have helped greatly. We noticed the shed behind the lodge was unlocked and we were unable to lock it and worried about the safety of the contents. No one at the site office to ask during our stay. Cleanliness was poor in the lounge and bedrooms, specifically the sofas which we found to have crushed biscuits under the cushions. None of the furniture had been moved to clean behind or under, In the bedrooms there were biscuits behind the bedside cabinets and thick dust on furniture and skirtings. Post covid particularly I expected a clean lodge would be essential. Bathrooms, towels, bed linen all very clean. En-suite toilet was cracked with a loose lid. The style and location of this lodge are its selling points and I would recommend it. We would book again provided the negatives noted were rectified.

  We loved the property and the location and what weather !

  The house with its thick stone walls remained cool despite the high temperatures. A great house so clean and modern which was much appreciated. We would love to return on our next visit to the Lakes. In the spirit of us loving the property and certainly not complaining could we suggest the following which we feel will add to the comfort/ enjoyment of future guests:- Clothes airer or discreet washing line Larger kitchen bin A small creative (in the space) hanging rail in the en-suite bedroom Board for fruit prep ( the wooden ones are liable to staining) Some more small sharp knives, there was only one A cafetiere for fresh coffee ( we had to order one on Amazon Prime :) ) An external cover for the en-suite extractor as we had lots of flies ( in this room with all windows shut )in the first 24 hours and believe that they came through this open pipe which ought to have said cover on to prevent birds etc from using it as a home !   Fantastic break, East Calvert House is exactly as described, spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped. Everything you need has been thought of to a high standard, including fire safety , nothing spared. You can just bring yourself, relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. Loved sitting on the front patio taking in the beautiful views, had lovely walks with our dogs alongside the roaming sheep right from the doorstep. Enjoyed great food at the local friendly pub, the Kings Head, explored nearby Richmond, Castle and museums. The first journey to the cottage was a bit daunting up the track but easy once we had done it once. As our old car was up to the challenge we also enjoyed a meal at the highest pub in the British isles The Tan Hill Inn ,less than 30 minutes drive . Wish we had had more time to explore so much more the area had to offer. I highly recommend using Original Cottages, great communication & instructions.

  Although the location of the lodge is lovely, the lodge itself is in need of attention to bring it up to a standard expected when paying this amount of money for a lodge.

  The toilet seat was broken on one of the toilets making it unusable, the other toilet was cracked. The shower over the bath leaked out on to the floor making that unusable. The bin in the kitchen was broken, there was hair and sand on the rug / carpet and sofas and the general cleanliness of the lodge was poor. There is no digital or analogue television and so the TV can only be used on the Samsung app, (impossible for older people meaning that they couldn't watch any television for the week). There is no information on how to use the heating or any appliances and there is no WIFI access available from the holiday park. Outside there was rubbish scattered around the decking area including multiple security seals from the hot tub cover and the hot tub itself was not full so had to be filled and then waited for until the next day to warm up. Not the holiday break away we'd hoped for unfortunately.

  Pirate’s View has fantastic views over Brixham town and the harbour. It’s elevated, so is accessible by many steep steps or a steep slope; I therefore wouldn’t recommend to the less mobile - we loved the exercise though. Parking is an issue, as it’s limited and the streets are very narrow, but besides that everything else was excellent. The house is modern and styled nicely with all mod cons and the owners are very friendly and accommodating. Brixham is a friendly fishing town with nice dog welcoming restaurants and pubs. The coastal walks are beautiful, very hilly if you want to venture down to the coves, but well worth it. Salcombe and Dartmouth are worth visiting. Use the ferry to cross the estuary as the journey round is long and slow. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pirate’s View and would recommend it to most people wanting to visit Brixham.
