What our customers say about their holidays

Simply, this is a beautiful property.
Finished to a very high standard. With a spectacular view outside in a quiet a peaceful area. The surroundings really are quite lovely. The bedrooms, beds, linens and towels are all excellent quality. The carpeting in the hallways and bedrooms was lush. Everything (almost) is comfortable and the hosts should be commended for presenting such a genuinely great building to stay in. Bathrooms (3 toilets not the advertised 2) and showers were really great. Well lit and furnished. Water pressure was high and enjoyable. The WiFi worked great throughout. The heating was top notch. The television while a little on the small size for the living room was a smart TV so streaming services were available. The kitchen was very well equipped, enough to make any sort of meal for even a large group as there are settings for many. Though could use a whisk and some larger drinking glasses. Cooking in it was a pleasure. An instant boil tap means no kettle in sight, it was a great addition. We did have some gripes however, but will point out that this could just be personal preferences but felt necessary to mention... The property is right next to another building. Like almost attached. The pictures do a good job of not showing that. You share a driveway and a car port. We did see the inhabitants several times and they did seem to be peeking once or twice. The building is surrounded by active security cameras, which is great for security but can also give you a slightly uneasy feeling that you're being checked in on by the owners. Inside there are quite a lot of signs and labels telling you not to do something. Every bedroom has a big door to the outside. These all have labels on saying not to open unless it's an emergency. 2 of the rooms have no windows other than this big glass door so it seems a bit restricting. Also one in the living room has that same label. Ugly sheets ruin the look of the kitchen detailing rules to follow and procedures for waste disposal. These things combined to take down the comfort level. Made it seem like you were being watched. Also the giant, very comfy sofa is a recliner. But the controls have been taped up and the power cables removed thus removing that function which is an odd choice. Could also use some pillows.

We have just returned from a short weekend trip to this lovely property within striking distance of both Durham and the north east coast.
The location was brilliant and the property is set up a long driveway which is part of a working farm complex. We thoroughly enjoyed feeding the hens and the outlook was really nice, cute little touches around the exterior with plenty of parking. Inside was beautifully maintained to a very high standard. Modern and nicely decorated throughout, spotlessly clean with comfortable beds and plenty of space and storage available.. The house was fully equipped with everything you would need to enhance your stay. It really is a home from home. We lit the wood burning stove as it was a very cold weekend and followed the instructions in the guest book, which is very well prepared with loads of info. We met Jo, our host walking her dogs and she was very warm and friendly. I would definitely recommend this house for a lovely stay. I am quite fussy where I stay and I had a truly fantastic time here and would definitely return.

We always have a great stay at The Haybarn, Jo and Richard are always very welcoming it's our home away from home.
There's parking spaces for the house and an EV charging point if you need it. The house is clean and tidy and well set up, there's a nice basket of logs on arrival, ready for a cosy, evening fire, which was perfect for the day we arrived. Everything you need is supplied, and there's a small Co-op and a Lidl not far away if you forgot something. We like the peaceful location, I'm there for the beach, which is just a few miles away, and Dalton Park is great for a bit of retail therapy should you wish to indulge. Seaham has a few nice places to eat, and there's information at the house about some of the eateries. We've stayed several times now, and we love it, our dog loves it too, walkies straight out of the door to the woods and country park, or a car ride to the beach. Dog treats and towels for dirty paws provided! I'd recommend The Haybarn, great for families or a couple like us who enjoy the space

Hi, family of 2 adults and 2 children.
We really enjoyed our stay. The house is in a great location as you well know. All of the goods inside are excellent quality but the main thing that lets the property down is the bifold doors. They have been misused and unfortunately are so hard to open we didnât bother most of the time. These would really need replacing. As the property is rented out many people are not educated on how to open and close them properly and they damage the rubber gaskets at the bottom. Thatâs exactly what has happened here and the tracks are rusty so they donât even slide anymore. There are doors that would be better suited to this and I would be happy to explain if you did ever consider changing them. Other than this we would definitely recommend the property and even consider returning in the future.

The HayBarn was a fabulous and faultless holiday location that we were sad to leave and hope to revisit!
The location was quiet and pretty but local to plentiful facilities and attractions. The kitchen was furnished with every utensil we could have wanted, the bedrooms were both spacious and comfortable. The accommodation was clean and tastefully decorated throughout - providing a perfectly calming holiday environment. We visited with our dog, who had country walks on the doorstep, and a safe enclosed patio to watch the world go by. Jo was the perfect welcoming host, leaving us to get on but on-hand to answer questions and share local knowledge. The provision of tea and coffee, welcome afternoon tea treats and dog biscuits were lovely touches that rounded off the whole experience. I can't recommend the HayBarn highly enough.
