What our customers say about their holidays
Ian - Verified booking
The cottage had a well equipped kitchen including boiling water tap (although a kettle was also provided) and a very good shower room.
Parking was just outside the cottage in their gated courtyard, which is situated near the ownerâs farmhouse. The settee was very comfortable and I also enjoyed sitting in the ârocking chairâ! No mobile signal but the Wi-Fi was good. Much enjoyed the rural view, seeing the cows being moved daily to the top field. The cottage was well placed for sightseeing and would be good for cycling or walking,. We went on the Peak Rail steam train trip from Rowsley to Matlock, on a wet day, and enjoyed Matlock Bath, Ashbourne, Ilam Park, Dovedale, and Bakewell. The relatively nearby pretty village of Winster was a daily visit, for newspapers, local bread, butter, milk and groceries (local shop and Post Office). Sainsburyâs (with petrol station) and other shops could be found at Matlock. The garden was small but very secure for our two small dogs, with a small lawn and paved patio with garden seats - and an outside light for nighttime âvisitsâ. As I was on crutches I did find the steps were quite steep to the garden, with no handrail, but I did manage, with care, and this was of course mentioned in the property description. A very handy porch/boot room to the front of the property was convenient to dry off the dogs and to leave our wet coats, shoes, etc! There was also a washing machine, if required, and a very handy mop! We enjoyed our visit to the cottage and would recommend.

On arrival at the location no obvious sign of Clover Cottage.
Contacted owner via an Intercom system attached to farmhouse door. Owner apologised for non appearance said she would be home as soon as possible. Tried to describe where entrance to cottage was but signal kept breaking up and could not understand what she was saying. Spoke to a lady in the adjoining cheese factory who said she had never heard of Clover Cottage. Eventually found another person at cheese factory who directed me to the property. The entrance was off the farmyard but was not obvious that it was like photos on booking site. Entrance via a very unimpressive leanto to the back door. This led into a small kitchen with no window and then into the living room which was minimally furnished. The bathroom was off this room and was the best room in house with large walk-in shower, wash basin and toilet. The two bedrooms were uninspiring with large heavy furniture, one looking out to garden. The photos on the booking site gave the impression of a much more cosy and comfortable property which it was not. The cottage was described on the web site as "a stunning two bed roomed cottage" Not in my opinion. This short break was to give my wife a bit of a ' pick me up' after a recent stroke but because of what we found as described above we felt that we could not stay and we drove home.

A lovely property to stay in for our first visit to The Peak District.
It had everything we needed for the four of us, my daughter and her two boys, 12 and nearly 14. Everything is done to a very high standard. The beds were extremely comfortable and the showers powerful. The main area was spotlessly clean but my daughter did find a lot of dust under one of the beds when retrieving a sock which explained why my younger grandson kept sneezing in his room! The garden is at the front of the property and as it was October when we stayed we didnât make much use of it but had it been the sort of weather to eat outside then one would be in full view of the other properties. This wouldnât particularly bother us but some people may prefer a little more privacy. The area is beautiful and we visited a few National Trust places and Dovedale an Ilam Park are definitely worth visiting as is The Heights of Abraham. Also Chatsworth is only about 15 minutes away and that was very enjoyable. We did wonder why there was no visitors book as we enjoy reading other peopleâs comments and advice on where to go. Lastly we appreciated the goodies that were left for us, thank you. I would thoroughly recommend this property.

The hot tub wasnât as clean as one would expect which was a little alarming.
Some more pegs to hang wet clothes out would have been helpful. The bathroom needs some attention, especially the seal to the shower door. A mirror in all bedrooms would be useful. The crockery does not fit/stack into the dishwasher so ended up washing up. The cottage accommodates for 5 but only 4 dining chairs. There were 5 of us altogether but only 2 robes and one pair of slippers? This (in my opinion) was âhigh endâ in price so I expected a little more luxury. Some basic essentials for arrival would have been nice and weâve experienced this at other places weâve stayed. This was my only holiday this year with my two children. My friend joined us with her son. The children especially wished for a hot tub hence us choosing this cottage. The stay was lovely and we enjoyed it. Just a few things mentioned above that would have made it better. Good location and friendly neighbours. Bedding and towels nice. Good selection of leaflets with things to do and good games to use. Well equipped kitchen.
