What our customers say about their holidays
Valerie - Verified booking
We were the first guests to occupy Inny Brook Burrow under new ownership.
The new owner spoke with me on the phone the day prior to our arrival, on his return home from the property to confirm that everything was in order and awaiting our welcome. It was a holiday with memories we would like to forget. Our findings upon arrival: Accuracy of listing - Not accurate. The listing portrays a pristine 5 tick property. In reality, the condition has clearly deteriorated since the time when the listing was first placed. During our stay, and due to the change of ownership, the listing was briefly readvertised by Sykes as ânewâ, however, the listing and photos to truly present the property in its current state has not changed. Cleanliness - not clean. Filthy in most areas. Internally: Filthy hard floors, windows, doors, layers of dust and debris on all surfaces and ledges. Pitted black mould on curtains and blinds, stained dirty carpets, hair and debris clinging to the base of curtains. Other areas too numerous to mention in this brief review. Comfort: The listing boasts a riverside camellia garden, an idyllic space to relax? There is not a camellia in sight? There are no flowers at all, apart from living weeds and plastic hanging balls laced with cobwebs, as is the entire rear of the property. The garden furniture is rusty and green mouldy, unfit for its purpose? A totally depressing, unkempt outdoor space. Facilities & Maintenance - listing states entertainment with complimentary movies with Netflix? No Netflix? The property is in great need of a thorough deep clean, replacement of carpets, blinds and garden furniture, and an uplift in decor, both internally and externally. The owner believes that £100 compensation for our totally compromised and stressful holiday is adequate, which is inclusive of payment in recognition of my personal cleaning services, a pre agreed arrangement with the owner that, if I obtained the cleaning materials and equipment, and carried out the basic necessary cleaning, to try and make us more comfortable, I would be compensated for my efforts? This is a true and honest review, my opinion of the cleanliness is not subjective, as has been evidenced by photographs.

Carrows Stables is a wonderful location because it lies very remote and we enjoyed seaviews as well as the fact that the South West Coast Path is only a 5 minutes walk away from the cottage.
With The Rectory Tearooms and the Bush Inn close by, very good food was always at hand. The kitchen was very well equipped. Paula, the owner of Carrows Stable, was very kind and always helpful (she also cut the plants so that we had a great view from the window in the living room). Her dog Seamus was absolutely adorable and a highlight of our stay. Nevertheless, I agree with Carolyn´s review (August 2023) concerning the condition of the cottage: it needs redecorating and the cleaning was not very well done (cobwebs, empty dogfood tin from a previous tenant in the dustbin ...). The second bedroom and bathroom in the first floor are very small. Although the cottage is supposed to host six guests, I think the eating table is too small for more than four people. The pictures of the art deco window are not really accurate, because the window sill is not wide enough to sit there comfortably. Since old houses often smell musty, it would have been nice if the house had been ventilated and heated before we arrived. We also missed hooks in the entry hall for our jackets - luckily it didn´t rain during our stay so we just put them over a chair. In terms of price, I would have expected

Can't really say that "Pengullyn" had the wow factor, other reviewers have indicated this.
It does, however, have virtually everything you're likely to need for a week or two in Cornwall, except egg cups. The most important thing for us was that the property has its own parking space. Which in Cornwall is a Godsend, given that we once had our legitimately parked car wrecked by a Cornish bin lorry. We were a little disappointed to find that the shower, reported has broken in August, had not been repaired. Needless to say showering proved rather challenging as a result. By the way, where was our cream tea that other previous visitors to "Pengullyn" arrived to find? Lol. Thank you for the milk nevertheless. A little tip. If you want to go into town and want to avoid the treacherous traffic on Chywoone Hill then turn right outside the side door, go down the short hill, turn right at the bottom and go through the covered arch. Immediately turn left and keep going. This will take you to the Strand and into town. A far safer route believe me! All in all we had a nice stay at "Pengullyn", and it provided a sound base to explore a beautiful part of our beloved Cornwall. Kernow Bys Vyken!

We found the accommodation to be very comfortable and the location is extremely peaceful and it is pleasant to sit out in the evening although no chairs are provided, only a picnic bench.
There are adjoining holiday properties so noise levels could depend on who is staying next door but sound insulation between the properties is excellent. Minor drawbacks are that freezer and general storage space in the kitchen is rather limited (we mainly self cater). Also there is no external washing line or dryer for items which are unsuitable for putting in the washer/dryer such as swimwear and wet suits. We were unable to find instructions for the tv, washing machine, cooker, microwave etc. Also we found some of the crockery and utensils were not clean on this occasion. There is an imbalance in size between the bedrooms so the property is probably best suited to a couple with children, or just three adults. The owners live on site and are friendly and approachable and would I am sure sort out any major issues. We have now stayed three times and would recommend this property so long as you are prepared for a short drive down the country lanes to access it.

Weâve just spent 4 weeks at Bertâs Barn and loved every minute.
The property is perfect, huge lounge with lots of character including vaulted ceiling and a log burning stove. 3 cosy bedrooms, kitchen with all you need and 2 bathrooms, one with a roll top bath. The location was perfect, with Pollurian beach only a 4-5 minute walk, the village centre with pubs, shops and a chippy maybe only 3 minutes walk and then you have access to lots of other great places only a short drive away. The hosts Jim and Rachel are great, very friendly, full of local knowledge and very helpful. We really felt at home staying at Bertâs Barn and we would have happily stayed on another month or even two if we could. I think these cottages are pretty new to Sykes and Iâd imagine will get booked up for next season very soon. There are 2 other cottages in the same courtyard so if youâre a multi family wanting to stay together but not in the same house, this place would be ideal. We would love to go back again sometime soon. Ash and Sarah.
