What our customers say about their holidays
Confirmed Guest - Verified booking
Lovely large house, great location, close to shops, park etc. The house was very well equipped and stocked all our essentials ie toilet rolls, washing up liquid, even tin foil, cling film and sandwich bags. There were 10 of us split over a 2 week stay at Braidwood, 5 children & 5 adults. The house had plenty of large rooms to accommodate us all. The children really enjoyed the garden and the park out the back gate. We all walked round the park by the loch, the kids enjoyed playing on the playground. Made our way back with a walk up Queens Street. I enjoyed sitting in the garden at night & early morning, while everyone was in bed, having a cup of tea and a cigarette, it was so peaceful and the different birds certainly kept me entertained, the robin especially came to greet me every morning. 2022 was my 25th year of staying in Scotland for my annual summer holiday, my late mother's people were all Dalbeattie folk born & bred. I lost my mum 8 years ago, also losing my eldest brother 4 weeks after mum's passing. They are laid to rest in and around their favourite places, Sandyhills, Rockcliffe etc. They are all together at Sweetheart Abbey alongside my aunt (mum's sister) and her son (my cousin) My Summer holiday are sort of like a pilgrimage to visit my loved ones resting place and a promise I made too my mum on her last visit to Sweetheart Abbey, that every year I would visit with flowers. I also visit the Haugh of Urr were some of mum's family are laid to rest. I hope that one day I will get to stay at Braidwood again, I'm opting for a much quieter holiday next year without all the grand kids. As always booking through Discover Scotland my holiday is always 100% satisfactory. Great Property in a Great Location...Thank You for an amazing holiday on behalf of myself and family members who stayed with us. See You All Next Year

This property has a superb location and was exactly as described.
The outside of the property gave no indication of the quality inside which was excellent. The farmer on site ( Tom) was easy to get along with and nothing was too much trouble. We had a few issues with the heating system (including the non working shower in one of the bedrooms ) which required a plumber to investigate and sort out for us which was satisfactorily resolved quickly. Some points of constructive comment follow. 1. There is no mirror in the twin bed room upstairs - this would have been nice especially as this room had no en-suite and the bathroom was on the other side of the landing. 2. Two of the ventilation fans in the en - suites ( downstairs bedroom and upstairs double room) were not working. 3. The range oven clearly had a thermostat problem as whatever temperature it was set at for the main oven, it was recording 40degrees below - we tested a range of temperatures from 100 degrees to 230 degrees and found this to be the case. Cooking chicken in this oven would have been a no no. 4. The statement on the booking site that electric vehicles cannot be charged on site needs to be altered. It should, in my opinion, read âthe electricity charges for the house rental do not include those for EV charging. The costs for this will require to be paid in addition.â EVâs can be charged by mains cable obviously ( albeit slowly) overnight but perhaps with the ever increasing use of EVs, the house needs to be brought up to date. 5. An outside tap and hose would have been nice for car washing as the long main drive to the house is extremely dusty in dry weather and for owners who prefer to keep their cars clean, this would have been a welcome addition to the facilities. We did have an excellent stay in this house albeit with a few issues and if what I have mentioned above got looked at and sorted, I would have awarded 5 stars.

My family and I booked this property to celebrate a 30th birthday of a family friend, we live only 20 minutes away and needed to be nearby as we all have animals that need daily attention, so we had a âstacationâ.
Easter Urray was everything we had hoped for and more, as a very keen cook the kitchen and the larder were very well equipped and once I got the hang of the gas hob we got on fine, the enormous utility room was great for the dog and all our outdoor things. The kitchen was ideal for cosy family suppers and for our more formal dinners the dining room was perfect. One of our guests summed it up perfectly âgrand but cosyâ. The house was so warm on arrival that we had to turn the underfloor heating down as the weather was mild, loved the wood burning stoves, we all live in the country but found it very peaceful and great for all ages. I loved it so much, that I really did not want to leave, I have hired many properties over the years and have to say that this was most definitely my favourite and we will be back, the owner was helpful and met us on arrival, we knew if we needed anything he was there but he respected our privacy which was appreciated. A ***** property.

The house is accessed via a long track, which is potholed.
The accommodation is very well set out and having three double bedrooms with good on suite bathrooms is excellent, but in my opinion two of the mattresses are in need of replacement. The sitting rooms are an ideal size, but furniture is uncomfortable and probably two years past the date when it should have been replaced. The house was not dirty, but not cleaned to a very high standard. There was a slice of toast under one of the settees and a dogs ball under one of the beds. We realised that dogs were allowed in the house, but disappointed with the number of dogs hairs on the settees. The kitchen is a great size and is well equipped, but the cooker could do with a deep clean. We could not find any instructions for any of the equipment. We had hoped that during our two week stay that there might have been an offer of clean towels and bedding at the end of the first week, but this did not happen.

A lovely house in a stunning location.
Most of the rooms are beautifully furnished but one bedroom and its ensuite bathroom are much smaller and in the "backstairs" part of the house, obviously last refitted in the 1970s - still nice, but not up to the standard of the other rooms. The house was generally very clean and well equipped but some of the glasses and crockery obviously hadn't been used for a long time and the vacuum cleaner bag was solidly full. Generally well equipped kitchen with few exceptions - no good frying pan, no teastrainer, no oven gloves - and the crockery, cutlery and glassware varied from old but good-quality to new and cheap. The information about the house and equipment was well-written and helpful but for a holiday home there was a surprising lack of information about local walks and attractions, so bring your own guide book and maps. But with those minor niggles this is an amazing place for a family get-together.
