Guests say

Hammer Bank Lodge is praised for its excellent location within walking distance of Windermere and local amenities, as well as its spacious, well-equipped kitchen and lovely garden. Guests appreciate the comfortable beds and relaxing atmosphere, making it ideal for families and groups. While the property offers good value and a cosy stay, some guests noted areas for improvement, such as cleanliness, maintenance, and the lack of WiFi. Overall, it provides a pleasant base for exploring the Lake District, with many guests expressing a willingness to return.

Several guests found the property clean and tidy on arrival, but others reported issues such as cobwebs, unhoovered floors, and neglected surfaces. Some mentioned the need for more thorough cleaning between stays.

The location is highly praised, with easy access to Windermere, local shops, restaurants, and public transport. The proximity to attractions and walks is a major highlight for guests.

Guests generally found the cottage warm, cosy, and comfortable, with good beds and a pleasant atmosphere. However, some mentioned issues with heating on arrival and small duvets for single beds.

The kitchen is well equipped and the garden is appreciated, but some guests noted maintenance issues such as an underperforming shower, outdated TVs, and lack of WiFi. The property would benefit from modernisation and additional amenities.

Basic supplies like washing up liquid, hand towels, and dishwasher tablets were provided, but guests noted a lack of essentials such as toilet paper, shower gel, and welcome gifts. Please note that gifts or extra provisions are not guaranteed.

This property has serious potential but the lack of upkeep unfortunately hurts it massively. It’s in a great location with parking and a lovely garden and the house itself is beautiful. That said, every room seems neglected in one way or another and just needs modernising a little. I say a little as some of the “old” character is what gives the place its charm but most walls and ceilings need work as there are damp patches and cracks all over. Cleanliness was not bad but so many cobwebs about and place had not been hoovered or cleaned properly. Kitchen sides were covered in sugar or salt when we arrived so first thing we had to do was clean and hoover. Also, fence panels were blown down in the garden which made the garden no longer private and the dvd player doesn’t work which both let the property down even more.

This house looks lovely and has an excellent kitchen and garden. Everything else is badly neglected. It is a real shame as any money invested I am sure would be more than recouped within the season. The neglect could be overlooked with a welcome but we arrived to a cold house and the same lack of additions as previous occupants. Very sad that its very central location is not used to maximise income for the owner. Never again and we shall be much more careful before booking with Cottages.com again.

The cottage is in a great location, about 10 mins walk from the station. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen is well equipped and there’s a cupboard of games, books, and dvds. Two of the bedrooms have sinks in them which was great. It’s v warm and the electric fire in the living room is v effective. The garden is lovely although we didn’t have the right weather for it, otherwise we would have been out there a lot.Although it’s close to the road you don’t hear it, the windows really shut out the noise.Useful things to know (when we were there)… there was washing up liquid, tea towel, hand towel and j-cloth, but also a dishwasher with some tablets. Also a cafetière, salt and pepper.Great walks straight from the cottage or a bus stop a few minutes away to take you to Ambleside and Grasmere. The decor is a bit dated but that’s all. I’d definitely stay there again and recommend it.
