Historic Barnard Castle, 6 miles, boasts an array of shops, inns, restaurants, a splendid Norman castle, antique shops and the famous Bowes Museum, with changing exhibitions. The Metro Centre, Beamish and Lake District are an hour away. Visit interesting Leyburn village and The Forbidden Corner near Middleham. Fishing, golf and riding locally. Pub and cafe 2 miles.

We really enjoyed our stay in The Old Chapel. We had a warm welcome from the owner, who left us some tasty treats (much appreciated, thank you, my breakfast porridge won't be the same without whole Jersey milk!).We found the cottage to be warm, cosy and comfortable in a quiet and peaceful rural location, but close enough to Barnard Castle where there are plenty of shops and places of interest, and the surrounding countryside is beautiful with lots of things to see and do. All in all it was a very good holiday.
