Oak Cottage offers a peaceful and cosy retreat in a stunning, remote location, perfect for those seeking tranquillity and a close connection with nature. Guests consistently praise the warm welcome from the hosts, the spacious lounge with a log burner, and the unique live wildlife cameras. The cottage is well-equipped and dog-friendly, with excellent walking opportunities nearby. While some furnishings and linens could benefit from updating, and the remote setting means amenities require a drive, the overall experience is relaxing and memorable, with the beauty of the surroundings and the hospitality of the owners standing out.
Most guests found the cottage clean and well-presented, with no unpleasant odours and evidence of thorough cleaning between stays. However, a few reviews noted tired furnishings, stained carpets, and worn towels and bedding, suggesting some areas could benefit from renewal.
The remote and tranquil setting is highly praised, offering beautiful views, direct access to walks, and proximity to the Scottish border and Northumberland National Park. While the seclusion is a highlight for many, some mention the need to drive for amenities.
Guests frequently describe the cottage as cosy, warm, and spacious, with comfortable seating and beds. A few found the mattress firm or the bedding small, and some noted the cottage feels 'lived in', but overall comfort is a strong point.
The cottage is well-equipped with quality appliances, a log burner, and unique wildlife cameras. Some guests noted a lack of basic supplies (soap, washing up liquid, toilet rolls) and suggested updates to soft furnishings and garden maintenance, but overall facilities are appreciated.
The hosts are repeatedly described as welcoming and attentive, sometimes offering a bottle of wine on arrival (though this is not guaranteed). Their local knowledge and friendly approach enhance the stay, and small touches like wildlife cameras add to the thoughtful experience.

This cottage was perfect for us, the Welcome was excellent from John and Jill and the cottage was large, well equipped and comfortable. The location is remote which we like, if you want somewhere with restaurants locally and amenities close by it’s not for you. Plenty of walking to be had and adventures for my dogs. Tesco will do home delivery or there is a Morrisons around 15 miles away at Hawick. The Scottish border is about 1.5 miles with great Moorland walks.we absolutely loved it. Wildlife cameras linked to the TV so can see various wildlife feeding, nice touch. We had a wonderful time, Thank You

Great Cottage John and fill the owners were lovely and helpful, the cottage had high end white goods including Bosch washer dishwasher and tumble dryer! The log burner was amazing, unfortunately when we were there it was -2 and the heating packed up so we left early, location was great for our dogs and we will re book to go back againKev and Jen
