Find the kitchen/diner is also a welcoming space and is beautifully arranged for you to be able to prepare homecooked holiday feasts and to dine together at the table. Climb the stairs to discover two first-floor bedrooms: a double plus a king-size with zip-and-link beds that can be made up as twins if requested. The family bathroom is also at this level, while on the floor above, another super-king room can be found. Again, this has zip-and-link beds that can be arranged as twins in advance. Take the fresh air out in the garden on fine days. Parking is on the road close to the cottage.

Visit the village’s nature reserve within a limestone valley at Tideswell Dale; those who are energetic can pick up the 7-mile route from here that follows the River Wye along Miller’s Dale. Drive 9 miles to follow a gentle 3-mile route through National Trust land at Bronze Age hill fort Mam Tor. Head 10 miles for a day out to famous Chatsworth House.
