About this property
A lovingly restored, traditional terraced cottage situated in the very heart of the village of Tideswell. Dating back to the 1700s, the cottage was once part of a shop, Chapmans of Tideswell, a newsagent and printing company. During WWII, the rear part of the present-day kitchen was used as a telephone exchange, hence the name of the property. Refurbished to a high standard throughout, great care has been taken to create a warm, comfortable holiday cottage in an idyllic location. Offering well equipped accommodation with two bedrooms, the property is just a short walk from the amenities of the village, including excellent old pubs, fine local eateries, intriguing curiosity shops, and cafes. With its central position in the heart of the Peak District National Park, and close proximity to Buxton, Bakewell and Chatsworth House, Exchange Cottage is the perfect base for a relaxing or romantic break.
Situated in the heart of the picturesque Peak District National Park, the lovely village of Tideswell enjoys beautiful surroundings. Famous for its church, "The Cathedral of the Peaks", which was dedicated to St John the Baptist, the village is also noted for its unique well-dressing and carnival wakes. With the Peak District always a favourite amongst ramblers, there are some excellent hill walks over the northern rugged peaks and the gently undulating hills of the southern dales. Only a fifteen minute drive away is the popular spa town of Buxton, whilst closer to home are the charming Mam Tor and Castleton, though with a variety of fine country inns, excellent restaurants, a chemist, a butchers and a bakers shop, you might never need to leave the village of Tideswell.

A great base to explore the area. Furniture could be more comfortable e.g. Sofa and Double Bed.

It was clean and well presented and well stocked with games and books which was lovely. It was however very noisy being on the main road and the windows donât do much to keep the sound out! The neighbour next door is also very noisy and could hear her tv word for word whenever we were in the cottage. The main bed is small for two people and getting ready for a new mattress, my husband and I ended up sleeping in two separate rooms just to try and be comfortable which was not ideal. We did enjoy our stay despite the cottage needing some tlc. Had a lovely meal at the Italian across the road and lots of nice walks from the door.

Cleanliness and facilities were good although perhaps certain aspects could have been improved upon,(more than one loo roll and tea towel left out) Overall we had a marvellous stay enjoying the facilities of the village and surrounding area. Definitely a place to return to.
