About this property

Dolphin Cottage is a well-appointed, three-bedroom holiday home situated along the Rock Road in Cornwall. Just a stone’s throw from the village shops, restaurants, and a pub, as well as Polzeath, Daymer and Rock beaches, this self-catering property offers a wonderful base for up to six guests, ideally suited for a large family to enjoy the delights of Rock and the Camel Estuary. Be welcomed by a large, enclosed garden, bordered with shrubs and views of open farmland, along with a paved sun terrace for alfresco dining or garden picnics. The accommodation is traditionally set with a kitchen, sitting room and dining room on the ground floor; the practical and bright kitchen, and the elegant sitting room both have doors onto the garden. Upstairs are three bedrooms; one benefiting from a king-size bed with en-suite bathroom, one double bedroom, one twin bedded room, all serviced by the family bathroom. Rock Beach is a short drive away and a wealth of watersports are on offer here including sailing and wakeboarding to name just a few. The fairways of St Enodoc Golf Course are a must for keen golfers, yet they also provide fabulous sandy footpaths for walkers to explore, and children can run up and down the dunes that rest between the greens and the sea. On inclement days, Wadebridge is less than 6 miles distant and has a wonderful sports centre with an indoor swimming pool and hosts two theatre cinemas, showing all the current films, with occasional local interest or art house films too, and a plethora of amenities to ease your visit. With Padstow a ferry ride away, plan a trip to the National Lobster Hatchery, travel up to the golden sands of Trevone Bay, or if the weather allows, board a Sealife Safari trip for a tour of the glistening waters. However you spend your break, do so with Dolphin Cottage as your base.

Rock is a desirable and much sought after coastal village located on the north eastern bank of the River Camel opposite the famous harbour town of Padstow which is easily reached by a regular ferry service. The summer home of royalty and celebrities offering top class restaurants and quality shops, the real draw is the array of watersports including sailing, water skiing, windsurfing and angling. Continuing on a sporting theme, the golf course at nearby St Enodoc is considered to be one of the best in the country. With an abundance of world class beaches all within a short radius it is easy to see why Rock holds its popularity.

Yet, sadly, not a dolphin's grace, In its features, a lack we face. Location boasts a charm so sweet, A coastal haven, where land and sea meet. The house, a gem, with a new build's kiss, Classy whispers, it can't dismiss. But John Bray, a charismatic name, His reputation, not quite the same. For Dolphin Cottage, it seems to lack, The charm we've known to track. Cobwebs weave their silent tales, Dirty floors beneath whispered gales. A Velux window, bathed in grime, Reflects a state, far from sublime. No doormat welcomes, as it should, Baking trays in grime stood. Pots and pans, their prime long past, A kitchen's echo, memories cast. In the drawer's embrace, what secrets play? A random dance, in culinary display. Forks of this and knives of that, All once cherished, now left for tat. The living room, a drafty shed, Whispers hinting a romance misled. O' Johnny Boy, must the pipes now blow? Revive this cottage, make it brightly show. In Dolphin's name, let winds of change, Sweep through rooms, rearrange. For Cornwall's pride, let John Bray rise, And charm return to Dolphin's eyes. also the toilet stopped working and the bins hadn't been emptied

We had a setback upon arrival with the cleanliness but John Bray responded promptly and ordered a special clean on Saturday morning. We have booked for 2024 . It is a 5* cottage.

We had an electrical and plumbing issue at the start of our stay but these were dealt with very efficiently by Sykes/Brays. Overall a lovely comfortable and well equipped cottage but it would be great if there could be more seating in the living room as the sofas only seat 4 people and we had to bring in dining chairs for our teenage granddaughters and visitors. Looking forward to our stay in 2024!
