Private parking for 2 cars. No smoking. Please note: There is sea frontage, 20 yards away.. Hawthorn Cottage sits at the edge of Southerness’ vast sandy and rocky beach. This period, single-storey holiday property looks out across the Solway Firth with beautiful views of The Lake District and Scotland’s second oldest lighthouse. The cottage is set in a stunning position and enjoys uninterrupted views of the sea. The living room features a Smart TV with access to Netflix and Amazon Prime (via guests’ own accounts).
Situated in the heart of 7Stanes mountain biking country, this is an ideal location from which to explore castles, abbeys, mansions and ruins, or the Machars Peninsula and the Galloway Hills. The cottage is very close to rspb Mersehead and WWT Caerlaverock is easily reached for a day out. In fact, the whole area is great for wildlife, much of which can be spotted from the cottage including otters, porpoises, thousands of barnacle geese in the winter and much more. The famously challenging Southerness championship links course is a five minute walk away.

Just had a week at Hawthorn Cottage. The cottage is outstanding. Every amenity was catered for, with beautiful quality fittings and decoration. Spotlessly clean with an absolutely stunning view. What’s not to like about that. Plus we had gorgeous weather too, which I know, can be a real bonus, when travelling to Scotland. We were a little wary on arrival, as there is a large caravan park nearby. But we needn’t have worried. Where the cottage is situated, along a private road, it was very quiet. Having pubs and a small shop just up the road, was great. We had a meal at the Paul Jones, which serves good pub grub. Can’t comment on the others, as we didn’t go in them. If we had a query, there was someone in the area we could contact. But we had no issues. Lorna the owner was a lovely lady to speak to. We had good communication with her, from start to finish. She also provided a lovely welcome pack, with homemade marmalade, which was delicious. Thank you Lorna. We hope to return, next year.

This is easily one of the best holiday cottages in which we have stayed. The welcome pack was much appreciated. Kitchen utensils galore. Pub and Convenience store down the road. Beach on the doorstep. Places to visit nearby. Very comfortable.

Excellent location. Quality fittings and furnishing.We usually need to take little things like salt & pepper and certain utensils but everything was already provided.Lovely welcome hamper.Visitors book comments says it all.
