What our customers say about their holidays

Fabulous spacious, old, stone house away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
We went with our daughter and grandchildren and there was plenty of parking for 2 cars. Within an hour of our arrival the owner had stopped by to check everything was okay and whenever he or his wife saw us around the farm they stopped for a chat however they werenât intrusive. The children (9, 8 & 5) had a great time in the playhouse and in the play area and spent a great deal of time kicking a ball around or playing cricket in the designated field. The girls loved the horses and the sunflower field too. There was everything we needed in the house although a long handled broom would have been nice (it wasnât a major problem that there wasnât one). Outside in the pretty garden area we had our own washing line and barbecue and table and chairs. The weather was good so we ate outside for most of our meals although the dining table was more than big enough inside too. There are lovely beaches nearby and we spent a great day at the Dyfed Shire Horse centre where the children groomed the donkeys as well as making friends with the horses. One of the foals is named Samuel so we had to take photos of them with the foal to send to their Uncle Samuel! We were so comfortable in the house and slept so well that none of us wanted to pack up to come home, especially the children. We wouldnât hesitate to recommend this family property which is better than the pictures show and exactly as described, however if you are desperate for a really good internet connection and phone signal this may not be for you. We found the phone signal was generally better outside (the property has very thick stone walls) and being isolated the internet was a bit hit and miss but good when it worked.

The accommodation was lovely, very well appointed with quality fixtures and fittings.
Beautiful location, very peaceful. Few minor maintenance niggles, potentially snagging as appeared new, but nothing that impacted the holiday. However, accessibility through the cottage was not ideal and this was not clear when booking. We were away with elderly parents and selected the cottage for the ground floor bedroom, however there were stairs to each lounge/kitchen area and to access the property, some without handrails and this did cause issues and concern. The WCs are low, again problematic for them and the bath, whilst lovely, was unmanageable for them to get in and out of. I think there was access into the cottage at grade, but parking was restricted close to this door, possibly due to ongoing building works. The first drive way gate requires someone to open and close it, within a field which is rural, uneven and at the time muddy terrain, again not ideal if youâre unsteady on your feet. Can I suggest it is worth noting more clearly that the property is not ideal if accessibility is a requirement on the description, but if not a requirement then I would highly recommend a stay here.

Beautiful cottage set in idyllic surroundings with a stream running through the garden.
Very quiet and peaceful with a magnificent view of Skiddaw from the upstairs window. There are lots of walks to be done from the cottage and Keswick is only 8 miles away. Our favorite pub is the Sun Inn in Bassenthwaite, which is a lovely unspoiled little village not far from the cottage - in fact you can walk there across the fields. The cottage was clean and well equipped. Bedding and towels are changed once a week. Just a couple of things though. There are lots of flies around, probably due to the fields of sheep nearby and also the towel rail fell off the wall in the bathroom, as it had not been fitted correctly. We saw from what had been written in the visitors book that it had been like that for about a year or more. We did mention this to Sykes, as we had nowhere to hang our towels. They removed the towel rail, but as of leaving, no replacement was provided. All in all we would love to return to this lovely part of the world and would definitely stay at Low Melbecks Cottage again.

What a wonderful holiday weâve had. The house suited us very well (4 adults and 2 children). The pool was perfect, we all loved it and swam and played in it every day, we even created our own Olympic swimming day there! Having Wellâs on your doorstep is perfect and we enjoyed plenty of crab fishing and beach days there too. We loved that the house had plenty of places to eat together, large tables in the kitchen, conservatory and outside meant all our meals were relaxed and communal. The kitchen is very well appointed too to accommodate all types of cooking. The snug/living room wasnât set up for all 6 of us to watch TV together as itâs quite small, which wasnât a huge problem but we wanted to watch the Olympics together so a few sat on the floor. We had a couple of problems at the property and Norfolk Hideaways reacted promptly, were very helpful and provided immediate solutions. Weâd certainly recommend this house to friends and family.
