What our customers say about their holidays

Harbourne Oast is an absolute gem nestled in the Kent countryside, with beautiful views in every direction and a gorgeous pond with 4 delightful ducks and a school of fish.
It is conveniently located near to Tenterden, which is a charming market town and there are plenty of places to visit nearby, including Camber Sands, which is only a 1/2 hr drive. From the moment we arrived our hosts made every effort to ensure we had what we needed to enjoy our stay. Everything about the facilities has been well thought through. As a family of 10 - 4 kids (ages 1-8) 4 parents and 2 grandparents - we wanted somewhere that could support differing needs. The Annexe or âGrannexeâ, was a particularly excellent feature. Allowing grandparents a haven from the noise of the kids, while being a destination of choice most mornings tor the little ones to acquire a second breakfast! Great memories have been made and will be cherished for many years to come. A few of words of caution, this is an historic house, so comes with many of the features one might expect, such as some very creaky floorboards and doors. Also, if you are taller than 5.11, watch your head on some of the low door frames! For any older guests and/or those with mobility issues, the annexe is perfect. Beautifully presented and perfectly apportioned. The main house proved a little difficult for my mother to access at first, however, Matthew swiftly constructed a wooden step to allow her to be able to join us for family meals in the fantastic kitchen and dining areas! This was hugely appreciated and indicative of the lengths to which our hosts went to ensure we were comfortable. One final note, the 9am checkout (due to COVID) is a little challenging, so would recommend packing the night before! The pictures online really donât do it justice, has it to be seen. All in all would highly recommend!

Positives: Clean and nicely decorated, extra sofa bed if two single occupants arrive, well-stocked with equipment and mod cons.
Negatives: The picture of the garden, that is used as the primary selling point, is misleading. The last autumn's leaf fall had not been raked up, the furniture was old, tatty and falling apart. The garden has had about three years of usage since established (according to the guest book entries), and it looked like no-one was bothering to maintain it. It was a big disappointment, as we had expected to see something more well-maintained like the picture. No guestbook, and occupant information like an updated wi-fi password or local area information was clearly displayed/provided. We used a clearly displayed sign for the Wi-fi password which was out of date, battled with it for half an hour, and eventually had to go and knock on the door of the main house to ask for the information. Eventually, we found informational items tucked in behind the TV, a day later. We felt that it was a bit of an oversight to not make the location of these much clearer or to update their sign. We felt that the owners of the accommodation could have attended better to the small things, and the garden was a big disappointment.

The owners were very helpful and available when we called or texted them.
The cottage was clean. The location of the cottage is within a shared area with neighbouring cottages and hot tub and a swimming pool. The cottage was very nice for a short stay however few improvements needed. - Provide guides/instructions for the property (we didnât notice there was a freezer at the back of the kitchen counters until the end of our trip) - The heating was not working. It was very cold the first night as we only had one electric heater. After asking the owners we noticed there was a spare fan heater. - The cottage could do with a coffee table by the sofas for when you want to watch TV and eat. - Pathways to the cottage could do with some lights as it gets very dark in the evening and it is a long walk from the entrance of the property. Having to use mobile flash light can be difficult when you have bags to carry. - We were expecting there to be basics like salt/pepper/sugar/milk but none was provided given the price we paid for the stay. However basic kitchenware provided.

The cottage is in the most perfect location by the Weir (naturally!
) so we saw an abundance of ducks and moorhens. The garden is large and beautifully planted and fully secure for our dog to roam free. The front garden has a magnificent weeping willow. The house itself is compact but very comfortable, the shower room is modern and the shower is hot and powerful. The whole of the upstairs is the bedroom, which is decorated well and has a very comfy bed. The toiletries supplied are plentiful and from the fabulously luxurious Noble Isle range. The welcome pack of snacks, biscuits, soft drinks and a pint of milk (for a welcome cup of tea on arrival) was much appreciated..(with a few teabags and coffee sachets supplied in the kitchen cupboard too). We had the most glorious week of sunshine and have taken so many sunrise and sunset we could publish a book! Castle staff throughout were extremely friendly and utterly professional. We have already booked the same week next year and were very sad to leave.

Last minute booking for 4 families to get together.
Everyone was happy with the property and surroundings. Property is clean and with extra cleaning due to pandemic. The communication to the owner was nice and easy! Plenty of places to visit in the surrounding area, and its big enough for you to stay in and chill out. We managed to do sky watching during our stay, we saw shooting stars and the Milky-way! This was really an additional to our holiday! My hubby and I get to stay at the Annex, it is not linked to the main barn, but not far away! Its good to have our own little space with quiet and peace. Most of beds are really comfortable. One thing I need to mention is that we were not left enough coffee capsules, only 10. Yes, there are some instant coffee sachets, could be nice to supply more capsules, at least one per person per day. Nor enough dish washer tablets, or washing machine detergent supplied. They are minor, but would be perfect if we would not have to buy our own.
