What our customers say about their holidays
Shelley - Verified booking
The property is over the Fat Face shop in Fore Street and if you are facing the property, the gated entrance is found down a narrow path to the right of the shop.
The access codes for both the gate and the key pad were sent by email once we booked the property. There is a small car park approx. 30m further up Fore Street, which for a small charge we parked in just to unload the car and get everything to the property. The long stay car park permit was on the dining table waiting for us and we then moved our car to the long stay Creek car park which is located past the Co-op. The property was lovely, clean, and with a very well equipped kitchen. We cooked all our evening meals there, having bought our vegan supplies for the week with us. The fridge has only a small freezer compartment. We ate lunch on the go and we never had a problem finding vegan options in any shop, cafe or restaurant. The owner kindly supplied new tea towels, a few dishwasher tablets and a 100ml bottle of washing up liquid. All bath towels are supplied but not swimming towels. The beds were very comfortable and the two small bathrooms were great for us. There was a small amount of damp in the main bedroom fireplace and ceiling which I am sure the owner will address, as overall, the property has been well cared for and was nicely decorated. The TV is big and made for a great Eurovision evening. The radio is in one of the wall kitchen cabinets. There is a shelf of videos and books which was a nice touch. We did not use the wood burner as the weather was great, but it's a nice feature. The clothes hanging space was limited but there is plenty of drawers which was just right for the two of us. There is some covered building work approximately 20m behind the property. Although it is visible, it did not bother us as there are lovely blinds and shutters to arrange as you wish for privacy throughout the property. Noise was not in any way a problem, indeed the property was surprisingly quiet considering it is on the main street. For us the position was perfect as it was right in the heart of Salcombe, with the ferries shops, pubs and cafes all on a level walk. (No hard slog up to a rental at the top of the hill at the end of a day for us!) We had a fantastic week exploring some of the South Coast Path which was stunning and beautiful. We would recommend popping into the information centre to pick up the maps of some of the circular walks: Gara Rock, Bolt Head, Snapes Point, Bolt Tail, Thurleston. Don't miss a ferry trip to South Sands to explore Overbeck Gardens; the views are superb. Thank you for a fantastic week. We would not hesitate to recommend this property or to book it again. On one more point. I left a small rucksack at the property when we left, but after a quick call to Coast and Country Cottages, this was returned to our home address within days for a reasonable £30.

The property was ideally situated but be aware it is on a hill (fine for us) Very dissapointed, the approach to the property was un Kempt and weeds approaching the property.
The garden grass was about 8 inches high, over grown and should have been cut and tidied there was no excuse for that as a holiday rental other than poor management. The property it's self needed a through DEEP clean....dirty, kitchen cupboards didn't shut properly, broken shelves in the fridges. The furniture and carpets in the front room need changing and up grading! setee seriously stained so it the carpet and rug.... (Fortunatly I took my own throws) other wise I certainly wouldn't want to have sat on it. There is also damp coming through the wall of the front bedroom. Stairs are steep, NO baby gate provided however we did ask and were declined. We also asked to take our own to be told it the pressure caused any damage we would be liable.....absolute joke considering this is not a highly maintained property. There was no concern regarding safty of a toddler! It was nice to have the table tennis in the garage. They also lost console games however the wired to these also need replacing, This property needs care and attention and bringing up to a higher cleaner standard and maintenance issues need addressing also the damp in the bedroom. The garden should have also been kept clean and tidy, This property is neglected which is such a shame Next door is a rental too and unfortunatly the owners adult children liked to party till 03.00 am dispite asking to be quiet!

First of all, the location in Salcombe is excellent, right in the centre and not situated on a hill.
It must be said that loading & unloading at the start & end of the holiday was a nightmare - nowhere close to leave the car except in double yellows. The parking permit is a bonus - & once weâd parked the car, some way away from the accommodation, we didnât use it again. Obviously that might not suit everyone. It was a bit noisy - clearly the road is a popular place to meet up at night! The family shower room is inadequate - shower is tiny & only a rainfall shower from above, so inappropriate for children & anybody wishing to have a shower without getting their hair wet. I also didnât really understand the en suite being attached to a room with bunk beds - it would have been better to have both bathrooms off the hallway. We also found there was very little cupboard space for our own food & supplies - although there were loads of cupboards they were full of crockery etc - actually far too much for the use of the 6 who would fit in the apartment. It could also have been cleaner - Iâm no Queen of Clean but if a place is being hired out at what is a substantial amount of money, then I donât think there should be dusty shutters or grubby velvet headboards. This sounds negative - but we had a great week there, the above really were just little niggles.

Great location in Salcombe and overall the property was good and we enjoyed our stay despite some problems with the facilities i.
E. both the hob and the clothes drier were broken when we arrived, although the hob was replaced during the week we were there and we received a small reimbursement for the inconvenience it caused. The general maintenance of the property was poor. For example, the front door hinges were rusty making the door stiff to open and noisy (we oiled the hinges); the gate at the top of the steps wouldn't open because of overgrown ivy making it dangerous to carry bags and receive food deliveries down the steps (we cut back the ivy); the fridge bulb was broken (we replaced it) and the fridge portion froze at the rear affecting the food; the benches for the dining table had loose and missing bolts making them rock and squeak when you sat on them and would have eventually collapsed (we tightened the bolts that were there). We also found that the property wasn't suitable for seven adults for two main reasons (i) the upper twin room had no storage for clothes and very limited room for suitcases and (ii) the fridge was too small to accommodate the fresh food required when eating evening meals in the property. We hope this constructive feedback helps and please let us know if you have any questions or comments.

We have stayed at the house 3 times and love it.
It is great to see work done on it each year, e.g. bathroom and paint outside. However a few things to note which I hope will be of benefit and some perhaps worth passing onto owner: -The top bedroom in roof can get seriously very hot in warm weather as there is no airflow (we brought a fan this year to help). This can be improved two ways; (1) fit an opening window behind bath (the current window doesn't open and double glazing has blown so likely needs replacing in due course), (2) the blocked up window behind wardrobe is painted black outside and this acts as massive heat soak (wall gets very hot)! Could it be painted another colour? -The lawn was not cut for a good few weeks (same last year), would have been nice since we have young children -Master bedroom on 1st floor has some large cracks in wall and could do coat of paint -Rear downstairs lounge has several areas were plaster/paint is failing and could do with repair (might be damp?) -Twin room has some broken bed slats. The frames were also very loose (I tightened some with allen keys start of the week). Thanks, Ross PS we would like to stay there again next year for salcombe week (7th July next year)
