  We mostly enjoyed our 4 night stay in Salcombe but normally stay over in East Portlemouth or further out from the Salcombe centre.

  So staying in the centre this time was an eye opener! 8b Fore St is right in the centre of things above the pastie shop and Roly's fudge shop! The front door is between the two shops with a steady climb up the staircase to the second floor. It is dated in decor although there are lovely colourful modern prints on the walls. The kitchen cooker is electric one I haven't seen in years! No washing machine/dishwasher not that that bothered us. The below work top fridge has only a small freezer space. Easy to live with for a few days but because of the position of the flat in the middle of the town it was VERY noisy in the late evening and the early hours with rabbles of youngsters shouting and yelling to one another just below us while waiting for taxis to take them away at 2 in the morning! Our advice keep windows shut and use white noise like a fan or the radio and wax ear plugs if you want to get ANY sleep! Luckily we brought both. The sitting/dining room was comfortable though small (a squeeze for 4) with picture windows & stunnings views at anytime of the day over the estuary and the East Portlemouth hillside. In future we would stay away from what is the busiest part of the town! Otherwise it was lovely to be back in Salcombe.

  The cottage was great although a bit cobwebby!

  I placed a bag on top of the wardrobe to make space and when I took it down it was literally covered in dust and fluff. I realise it is an old cottage and accept cobwebs but a quick dust on top of wardrobes not difficult. The bedding was all very nice and fresh feeling. The downside of the kitchen was the cooker I would say. It was quite annoying that it had to be switched on 30 minutes before you could start to cook anything which is no good if you have young children who want to eat soon after you arrive home. Also, because I have arthritis in my hand, I found the doors almost impossible to open. Something to be aware of I think. Lovely view from the cottage windows, the children enjoyed watching the cows moving from field to field. Finally I would like to say I didn’t need so many emails from C &C giving me instructions on how the cottage was to be left, it was quite irritating, remove all bedding, put towels in black bags, make sure dishwasher is emptied, remove all rubbish etc etc. Personally I would always do that but when you are paying a not inconsiderable amount for a weeks stay you do not expect to be told to do the job of the cleaners for them.

  The house was an absolute delight! Wonderful views greeted us every morning, creating a perfect start to each day. This charming house is nestled right by the water, offering an unparalleled sense of peace and relaxation. The house itself is beautifully decorated and maintained, combining modern amenities with a cozy costal homely feel. The spacious living area, with its large sliding doors and luminating sky lights, allowed us to enjoy the stunning seascape from the comfort of the indoors. The kitchen was fully equipped, making it easy to prepare meals. The bedrooms were comfortable and tastefully furnished, ensuring a restful night's sleep after a day of exploring the nearby beaches and quaint town. One of the highlights was the outdoor terrace, where we enjoyed evening barbecues surrounding my greenery and the sound of running water from the fountain. The extensive gardens are so beautiful, really peaceful and manicured. Salcombe's picturesque harbor and charming shops were just a short stroll away, adding to the convenience and appeal of this location. A perfect house for a family vacation, this coastal house in Salcombe is the perfect choice.

  This is a delightful cottage in a very convenient location.

  Short level walk to Estuary front and shops and even closer to the Railink bus to Totnes Station, which we used. It was spoiled by a lack of care. The freezer had a note to ensure the door is properly closed: on arrival it would not close because of a build up of ice which we removed and should have been remedied before our arrival. The cottage was empty the previous week so there was plenty of time to do so. We had requested to bring forward our start date by 3/4 days but Sykes would only do this if we paid for the full week. Towards the end of the week we used the washing machine and it wouldn't open after the cycle. Nick from Coast and Country was very helpful and got it open but it needs a proper repair or replacement. Sykes are a very imperpersonal organisation. The independent Country Cottages used to more friendly and relaxed. Although they are the local people on the ground who can help, Sykes insist on dealing with phone calls remotely. The only reliable way to talk to them is to walk to their office.

  The cottage is lovely and in a fantastic location, peaceful but close to Salcombe.

  The bedrooms and bathrooms were well appointed and comfortable. The chairs in the lounge were ok but not really that comfortable for a longer evening. The kitchen was nice overall but the cooking facilities are completely inappropriate for a holiday stay. The range cooker temperature needs to be manually controlled 30-60 minutes ahead of use, and even then the hot hob does not hold a boiling pan effectively. The induction hob unit to the side of the range is not straightforward to work out, and when in use the temperature cannot be finely adjusted. Coupled with the range issue we had to constantly blow on a simmering pan for 20 minutes to avoid it boiling over otherwise it would not hold a simmer either. This made cooking a meal for our family extremely difficult. The kitchen also needs to be equipped with more dish cleaning products, and we found the coffee machine wasn’t clean and we found old jacket potatoes in the range oven!
