What our customers say about their holidays

We had a wonderful time (again) in this delightful cottage.
We were really rather surprised by the negativity of some of the visitor book comments; we were tempted to add our own satirical observations on the observations ("devastated that there was no le Creuset cookware;" "appalled by the lack of port decanter") to highlight how off-the-wall some of those entries seemed to us. A couple of ludicrously minor suggestions: It would be useful to have a hook for a bathrobe on the back of the 1st floor bathroom door; The kitchen was splendidly equipped (made the mental shift from induction back to gas without too much trauma), and the knives were far of better quality than the usual 'holiday let' - but maybe a knife sharpener of some sort? (I always bring my own knives anyway, holday cottages usually offer blunt iron bars with handles). And a really seriously, humungously stupid one - the place mats: they're a bit big, and smaller ones would make it easier to set the table and protect the middle from hot serving dishes. Mind, that gets close to complaining that 'the candelabra was only silver plate.' When those are the only critical observations to be made, neither you nor the owner should be over-anxious. It's a lovely, cosy place to stay; we hope to re-book shortly for next October. The move to Sat-Sat booking isn't perfect for folk who work Sundays like we do, but we are definitely in a minority. And a last word, about the stairs - our party is 77, 71, 67 and 58, and it wasn't an issue for us, save that one reflected whether there was anything else to be done up there when one had completed the ascent to the top floor! It's abundantly clear in the info that the stairs might be challenging for the less mobile. Thank you, all. A much needed break which couldn't have been better - and so handy for what we have dubbed 'The Gin Terrace' just up from the Mary Anning statue. Feel free to publish the feedback, but it may need redacting!

Do not book this property.
A previous review described this property as filthy with an overgrown garden and a second floor with two bedrooms said to be unusable for safety reasons. When contacted by telephone and e mail before our booking âSykes Cottagesâ assured me that the issues had been addressed and dealt with. On entering the property there was an overwhelming musty smell. We had to clear away the many cobwebs and clean all surfaces as soon as we entered. The oven was too disgustingly filthy to ever use, as was the tiny filter coffee maker. Of the many mugs only two were usable as the rest were disgustingly worn away. The bath mat in the En Suite bathroom was dreadful, full of stains and falling apart. The towels were tiny and very thin and worn. The one tea towel provided had two large holes in it. Most of the blinds in the property were broken. The television was described as a Smart TV, it was not. There were no covers on the Conservatory cushions so they were stained and horrible. The two sun loungers had no cushions. We only needed the first floor bedrooms but we investigated those on the second floor. The stairs to them were so unsafe our dog would not use them and we found them very scary to navigate. It was impossible to stand in the two bedrooms at the top of the stairs. We were warned that if we left any rubbish in the bin on the property rather than in the bin on the nearby street, we would be charged for removal by the gardener, but only 1 bin bag was provided for the week. The garden and paths to it were so overgrown it was clear that no gardener had been on the property for a very long time. We were told that we had to strip the beds before leaving or would again be charged. We have stayed in many, many rental properties and been provided with a wide range of welcome packs. At âHeselwoodâ we werenât even provided with a tea bag, only 2 dishwasher tablets. This property could be amazing.

Loved the location with its sea views.
I'm a people watcher so chose the apartment because of this! It is on second floor and has stairs up to it. There are apartments above and below it and gift shop on ground floor. Very central for beach , town and harbour and marina. Spotlessly clean, decor was modern and luxurious. All mod cons , shower was amazing . TV was top of range and added bonus of tv in bedroom. Kitchen was fully equipped , again brand new and modern. The colour scheme of grey and silver ran through to the crockery too. Coffee machine was a bonus. Tea, coffee sachets of milk and sugar were provided as was selection of condiments.Luxurious thick throws were provided to keep sofas clean. Loved the mirrorred style of coffee table, dressing table , bedside cabinets and wardrobe. Everything matched and lots of thought had gone into it. Lots of hangers provided for clothes and ironing board in hallway if needed. Hairdryer stored in wardrobe, saves packing one. The bed linen was crisp and white and pillows thick and bouncy. Heating was easy to control. Key lock was easy to operate. Welcome pack provided with operating instructions for all appliances as well as maps and leaflets on local attractions. Shops and cafes on doorstep. Bus stops right outside and timetables in welcome folder. Overall, we were absolutely delighted with the apartment. Communication by text from Mike was brilliant, very informative with a personal touch. I was confident that if I needed anything at all, he would guide and advise. I have already shared the details of this apartment with my friends and will definitely be looking to rebook soon. Thank you Mike.

This is so close to being a top-notch holiday let.
There were just a handful of minor things that could be improved to make it wonderful: (1) It feels quite impersonal, probably because itâs so new. A few pictures on the walls, some books/dvds/board games maybe, would make things feel more homely. (2) The smallest bedroom would be better as a single not twin room, as thereâs no room for any furniture other than the two beds. Where are the incumbents meant to put their clothes? (3) The dining room part of the kitchen has poor lighting ⦠flickery and dim. It would be great if the following things could be provided: (1) A folder of information for the property, i.e. a place for the various manuals, local info, useful phone numbers, ownerâs contact details etc. Some of these were available but we had to hunt around for them. (2) A few hooks on bathroom and bedroom doors would be really useful. (3) Itâs generally a pretty baby-/toddler-friendly property, but supplying things like a high chair, a travel cot, a stair gate etc. would be incredibly helpful for groups with small children. There were some really positive pieces of feedback from our group: (1) Itâs a very comfortable house, decorated to a high standard, in a great location. (2) The kitchen is very well-equipped for those wanting to cook on holiday. (3) As the parents of a toddler, we were very grateful for a large, comfortable bed and super blackout blinds! (4) When the wifi stopped working, the owner was quick to come and sort it out.

We had a lovely stay.
The Granary exceeded expectations. Newly finished. The beds were comfy kings, not double. The showers were double: rain and hand, a rare treat was shower storage: somewhere to put your shower needs, thank you, no bending to the floor every few mins. Each bathroom had a heated steamfree lit mirror, touch activated, with shaver socket tucked at the side. Storage drawers under the basins. There was a huge toastily warm airing cupboard, ideal for drying things, with iron and ironing board and hairdrier ( these three not listed) Downstairs had a superb kitchen diner, lovely crockery, usual appliances. Welcome treat much appreciated. The lounge had three comfy leather sofas, nest of tables, log burner, tv. Wifi coped with three of us on it. Downstairs toilet. Thank you for the hand towel, often omitted at some places. Hallway has coat hooks, room for some shoes or in the kitchen. Downstairs had curtains, upstairs had roman and velux blinds, not shown in photos. The cottage was toasty, lots hot water. Downstairs each room had digital room thermostats. Garden furniture, seat cushions in the under stairs cupd with mop, brushes and a âHenryâ. The owners were lovely, friendly, informative and available. Two pubs within a short walk. 10% off at the Hive beach cafe at the nearby N Trust carpark, though you can walk there. Lovely beach n cliff walks. I felt the listing undersold the cottage with more writing about the scenic experience than the detail.
