What our customers say about their holidays

The cottage is in a lovely location on a private estate.
We liked the ability to open the windows to allow air into the property, plus the blinds to cover the windows helped to reduce light during the early hours of the morning. The binder with instructions on the various devices was very useful. Kitchen worked as it should but it could do with a large frying pan. The shower was overall good but we found that the boiler would lose pressure every few days so we just increased the pressure for a couple of seconds until the needle got to the recommended mark and the shower would then contintue to run warm/hot. The shower head is a little stiff but that's more down to the hard water so if someone has tried to adjust the jet then it might not lock in place and hence water shoots through the top and wets the bathroom, fan in bathroom wasn't working but not an issue. Main double bed is on the firm side which initially isn't ab issue but on the last two nights we started to feel it so might be an issue for some. The bunk room is only suitable for primary aged children which wasn't an issue for us though. The chill out room is great for kids to play, stairs are a little steep and exposed at the top but a toy box covered that part and wasnt an issue but others would need to be aware if they have smaller children. Cottage generally clean, just a few cob webs in bathroom corners but otherwise clean duvets are showing their age and could do with replacing. The small front garden isn't enclosed but that's stated on the site but gets the sun during the day which is good. Overall good and we enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful cottage in a gorgeous location.
Big enough for a family of 4 plus a small dog. The washing machine and dryer were much appreciated in February, we were so muddy every day! The underfloor heating kept the cottage to a comfortable temperature and we used the log burner every night to get super-cosy and warm. The kitchen was well equipped and easy to keep clean and tidy, plenty of storage for food and drinks. Views are OUTSTANDING. The garden was plenty big enough and safe for our little dog to mooch, I can imagine it would be glorious to sit out there in the sunshine but unfortunately we weren't blessed with the weather! Beds are so comfortable, with feather/down duvets and pillows. Towels were soft and easy to wash part-way through our stay. Plenty of sockets to charge devices, most have USB slots too so you don't need to pack the adaptors. No shaver points in the bathrooms so we had to use an adaptor to charge our toothbrush. The location is lovely, just outside the tiny village of Dalwood where the pub is a must-visit. Good location to discover the surrounding towns, although the country lanes nearby have seen better days (bring a spare tyre!). Recommend a visit to Sidmouth, it's a lovely town and most shops are open out of season. We've been a few times and stopped at the Blue Ball pub on the way home.

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at The Shippon.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a warm welcome from the lovely owners, who went above and beyond to make us feel at home. After a long drive, we appreciated a nice cuppa with the gifts of fresh milk and delicious homemade cakes, such a thoughtful touch! As were the eggs from the resident chickens, which we enjoyed for breakfast. The cottage itself was spotlessly clean and beautifully maintained, with everything you could possibly need provided. The kitchen was superbly well-equipped with modern appliances, including a coffee machine, dishwasher, and even a washer-dryer. They even thought of little details like plastic glasses and fizz flutes for enjoying drinks in the hot tub! Speaking of the hot tub, the views from there were breathtaking, and stargazing each evening was magical. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and we had some of the best nights' sleep during our stay. While we didnât use the log burner, all the supplies were there, ready to go if we had wanted a cozy fire. All in all, The Shippon was the perfect getaway. Its an ideal base for explring Devon. We honestly didnât want to leave! We canât recommend it enough. Thank you to the wonderful owners for creating such a special place!

The Shippon is amazing!
! There is nothing Sara & Ozgur havenât thought about! We was welcomed with a cream tea which was beautiful & fresh milk and eggs from daisys farm. The kitchen has everything you need and you also have a bbq so we cooked everyday and had lunch out! The hot tub is a added luxury and although the weather wasnât great for us we still took full of advantage of the hot tub in rain or shine, the views are beautiful and it is just so peaceful! Sara & ozgur are always there if you need them! I wanted to add something about the bed because oh my you will not want to get out of it!! We slept with the blind open slightly so that in the morning we had the view of the country side and every morning it was more beautiful to wake up to! The cottage is so cosy and relaxing you will not want to leave! We are already looking to book again! The area is ideal, you are close to so many beaches and the beautiful Jurassic coast. Canât wait until next time!!

This property is absolutely amazing.
Do not hesitate to book as you will not be disappointed. We stayed with our black lab for 4 days and the weather was perfect. He loved the enclosed garden and adjoining field so plenty of lovely walks. Waking up in the morning with the sun shining was a real plus. The living area and bedrooms all looked out onto garden and the rolling hill where the sheep and cows were grazing. We spent many hours sitting on garden furniture just enjoying the scenery and peace and quiet. We needed a well deserved break away and that was exactly what we got. The pictures do not do the views justice. The bed was extremely comfortable with crisp white sheets etc and perfect pillows. Millie was on hand if we needed anything and was most welcoming when we arrived. Nothing was too much trouble for her so Thank You Millie for your kindness. Canât wait to return to this special place. Thanks again M&S and Shadow the black lab. July 2024
