What our customers say about their holidays

We greatly enjoyed our stay in No.
3. We all felt immediately at home in the large and well-appointed apartment, which was presented in a clean and homely fashion. The view over the beach to Thurlestone rock is something we never tired of and were lucky to be there during a period of extremely high and low tides, so got to experience the full range of conditions. The entry instructions given to us were accurate and we didn't have to contact Sykes for any help. The welcome hamper from Aune Valley Farm Shop was a lovely touch. The master bedroom, with views over the sea, is very spacious, with a lovely en-suite. The other two bedrooms face inland and are smaller, but also comfortable. The lounge is huge and we spent many hours in there. We would happily return to Thurlestone Apartments for another stay and were sad to leave. It was lovely and everything we hoped it would be. Some room for improvement in a few areas. The door and window locks are sticky and some were unusable. They have been gummed up by salt spray. The main balcony door is drafty. OK in the summer, but it must be cold out of season. Guests will need to keep the main windows clear of salt spray. There is glass cleaning spray under the sink, but the windows had not been cleaned when we arrived. If the Wi-fi isn't working, as it wasn't for us on arrival, just turn it off and on again. Worked a treat thereafter and plenty of bandwidth for all of us to stream. Finally, not a criticism of No. 3, but the building owners should prevent the Housemartins from nesting in the eaves. The large pile of bird droppings at the main door is not the best first impression. For first time visitors, I would advise against taking the lane to South Milton Beach. This is crazy narrow and a test of nerve and reversing skills if faced with oncoming traffic. The road in from Galmpton and Malborough has its narrow bits, but is much easier to navigate.

Wonderfully positioned, characterful house with fantastic views from the living room and kitchen, day and night.
Very clean and well kept, with a well-equipped kitchen, and good bathroom and en suite shower room on the mid level. A mostly rainy week meant we couldnât take advantage of the terraces but again they offer great views. The garage is useful - our BMW 3 Series Estate fitted fairly easily - and at other times there was on street parking readily available within a minute or twoâs walk. Minor issues: household supplies were very basic (no kitchen roll or cleaning spray, for example) and only one set of keys provided. The middle floor (two bedrooms and bathroom) smelt a little damp, which is not unusual for coastal homes built into a hillside. There is no damp showing and itâs not enough to affect clothes stored, but if youâre sensitive to the smell of damp it may be a little off-putting. The sofa in the living room is rather tired and uncomfortable but we spent most of our time sitting on the excellent window seats for the views. Care needed at the top of the stairs on the top floor where the flooring is narrow, but thatâs just a factor of staying in an old, quirky but fun property. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay and would recommend this house to anyone who can cope with the fitness challenge of the exterior steps!

The property was delivered to us dirty.
There was body hair behind the bathroom door, many of the dishes were dirty as well as the cutlery. The windows were filthy, based on one reason to stay was the view, we had to wash the windows to see out of them. The door lock was temperamental between the bedroom and the balcony, this made it unusable. We had taken the time to recycle, but no bins on site and we were advised to travel miles to dispose of the rubbish. Struggled with this as we are all trying to help the environment. The sofas were uncomfortable and my wife had to sit on a dining chair for most of the week. The beds were great though and very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and the location was very peaceful. We visited whilst a storm happened, so the waves delivered a real treat as they crashed over the rocks. The hot water was on restricted timings, but we managed this and never ran out, it does take planning. The location was amazing and weâd only wish the pool was running over Easter for the children. We considered rebooking but for the price of £1000 (thereabouts) we would have expected a better standard of cleanliness in the apartment, and comfort in the lounge.

We loved the cottage, a lot of thought and love has clearly gone into making it so comfortable and welcoming.
We booked very last minute as the weather looked good and the booking was really easy. Beds and sofas very comfy and WiFi was great (I had to work in the mornings so that was a relief)! No BBQ despite the listing and garden was very pretty but quite overgrown so top sections not very accessible - didnât bother us as we were out most of the time. No toilet brush! We hadnât realised there was no washing machine - normally not a problem as who wants to do washing on hols but as the weather was so hot it would have been good to be able to wash sand suncream and salt out of clothes - my husband didnât bring enough. But we are too happy enjoying being to swim every day and enjoy the weather to care! And we could see it would be very difficult to install one due to space in the kitchen which was otherwise perfect and worked well⦠The little coffee shop along the road was great, amazing bread and a nice thing to have in the village. Will definitely be back - a quiet alternative to overpriced Salcombe accommodation! Thank you for letting us stay.

Constructive observations: Steps to the property are uneven and awkward for small children and anyone with mobility issues.
Not easy to access the garage due to scaffolding around property above obstructing the pathway (temporary closure notice posted on scaffold). Evidence of recent external building works resulted in us sweeping the lower garden to save walking a considerable amount of grit and dirt back inside the house (we didnât use the upper garden). Not a major issue but at this price point I wouldnât have expected to be having to do this. Concrete blocks left near front door (possibly leftover from scaffold) are a trip hazard and need removing. Rainwater down pipes need installing as without them thereâs a bit of noise when raining due to splashing of water on to the paths. Privacy blind required in the en-suite. We couldnât find a mat for the bath or shower; which would have been appreciated. Positive points: Incredible location. Beautiful property. Garage parking (we didnât use our car once during our stay). Weâd definitely stay here again!
