  Aberlyn is situated in a lovely position on the hillside just below Tors Park (which is now famous because of the Salt Path book and movie). The apartment has the most charming balcony with views towards the river and Lynmouth village. Whilst the house is on a slope, there are steps to reach the road or you could walk down the hillside road. It was an easy 2k walk all the way through the village and across the bridge to the beach and back again which we did a couple of times a day with our little dog. In the village there are numerous places to eat and drink. We had a really lovely lunch at Mad4Seafood which is dog friendly. We also had Cornish pasties and fish and chips on different days. There is no food store or supermarket in Lynmouth but there is a small Londis store in Lynton and a big Tesco in Ilfracombe. The apartment is spacious and quite comfortable. We slept very well indeed in the comfy beds and enjoyed good, hot showers in the bathrooms. Bath sheets and hand towels provided were a good, large size. The weather was mixed when we were staying but, luckily there was efficient central heating which we put on for an hour one evening when it was cold and damp outside. Finally, we would like to thank Mike and Yvonne and their family for their kindness when we had a problem in the kitchen which they quickly rectified without any fuss.

  We had the most wonderful stay in Western Cottage. Porlock Weir has long been a family favourite and this little row of cottages on Turkey Island have been featured in our family photo albums on many occasions. To have the opportunity to stay in this lovely cottage was a dream come true but the re.... We had the most wonderful stay in Western Cottage. Porlock Weir has long been a family favourite and this little row of cottages on Turkey Island have been featured in our family photo albums on many occasions. To have the opportunity to stay in this lovely cottage was a dream come true but the reality far exceeded the expectation. Such a beautiful home, tastefully decorated with such lovely touches such as Welsh mill hot water bottles and feather down duvets. Everything was so lovely and comfy and it was a joy to share family meals in the dining room and evenings by the wood burner. On check out day a gale was blowing, quite a severe storm and the kind owner allowed us to wait it out in the cottage. We were so grateful for such kindness. We’re home safe and sound now and dreaming of our next stay. Also so well located for walks and restaurants and pubs. A good tip for other visitors - we booked a Tesco delivery ahead of our trip so we didn’t have to leave!

  We can't imagine visiting Western Cottage and Porlock Weir without Dave, the Estate Manager. It just wouldn't be the same without him! He's an absolute asset, always on hand if you need him and he knows absolutely everyone. We love the cottage and we will definitely be back for a third visit .... It's warm & comfortable and the setting is idyllic. Porlock Bay Oysters (biggest mussels we've ever seen and top class oyster dressings) and Harbour Gallery Cafe are superb - go there for excellent food and service. A warm welcome at the pub and the hotel, lovely young teams of staff doing a great job.

  This was our third visit to Western Cottage. For me it's perfect. Porlock Weir is honestly my favourite place on Earth and it has to be a yearly visit, minimum. The cottage is lovely...simple and authentic in an unbeatable position. The choice of food at the Weir is excellent. We had no need to trav.... This was our third visit to Western Cottage. For me it's perfect. Porlock Weir is honestly my favourite place on Earth and it has to be a yearly visit, minimum. The cottage is lovely...simple and authentic in an unbeatable position. The choice of food at the Weir is excellent. We had no need to travel for a evening meal. I have to say that the outside toilet is very handy! (Obviously there's one indoors too). And then there's Exmoor on your doorstep. Unbeatable.

  3 night stay in November, out of season..Fri-Mon. We absolutely love Porlock Wier and have previously stayed at the pub but there was no availability... So first time at Western Cottage. Fabulous weekend. The cottage was clean warm and welcoming. All the facilities we needed and beds comfy too. Wha.... 3 night stay in November, out of season..Fri-Mon.
