What our customers say about their holidays
David - Verified booking
A lovely location, very easy to find, with a lovely lake and large garden.
Any criticism here is intended to assist the owner, who we never met, but don't let it put you off staying, as we had an enjoyable stay. There is one larger bedroom with an ensuite shower room and another with three single beds, two very close together, with a bathroom, which I assumed was meant for children. We asked for single beds and we were allocated the children's room. Upstairs is a lovely large kitchen / living room, which was very comfortable. There were sufficient plates, cups, etc. a welcome pack of cookies, a cake, and milk in the fridge, and a voucher for the local farm shop. The grounds had plenty of places to sit and relax. It is shared with other residents who, in our case, were out all day so we had the sunny garden to ourselves, although a pump was going all day long in an adjacent field on one day and on another there was loud music from somewhere and that did spoil the peace and quiet that we had hoped to find before we went off on the next leg of our trip. Mind you, as the holiday properties are on a farm I suppose we should have expected noise. As for the accommodation it was very comfortable, mostly clean, although the windows and oven could have done with some attention. There is a laundry room, which needed a good clean, for example the tumble dryer filter was full of fluff (which I cleaned out) and the sink and room in general was grubby. As a previous review said, there was no hair dryer, so I took my own, and plugged it in fhe hall. An iron and ironing board in the cottage would have been more convenient too. Overall this is very comfortable accommodation, great for a family, and the other cottages had families in them who enjoyed using the BBQ and outside space. We would return to the cottages the next time we drive through that area, although we would probably stay in one of the single storey cottages as I have some mobility issues and found the stairs to the living room difficult to walk up, but that was my fault in not reading the description fully before booking.

When we arrived at the property after our 4-hour journey, it was a little disappointing to find that the bed had not been made up and there were several piles of used towels in the kitchen and in the back bedroom. It was as if the job had been interrupted. This was all the more disappointing, given the strongly worded email/text message received before our arrival, to the effect that we must not arrive at the property before 4:00pm. However, we decided to swing with it, as we felt this was something that could/would be sorted before too long. What was more disappointing however was the response we received when we phoned the Suffolk Secrets phone number. Neither of the two people we spoke to was able to give a firm indication of when the situation would be rectified, simply falling back on the not very re-assuring "as soon as possible" formula. Particularly disappointing was the reply from your representative during my first call who said she would arranged for the property care people to call me directly. I then had to explain quite forcibly that I expected them to contact Suffolk Secrets and Suffolk Secrets to contact me, as I was Suffolk Secrets' client and not a client of the property care firm you use. I think this might have been due to inexperience of the young lady I spoke with - so, clearly a training matter here. It was re-assuring, however, to receive a text message within minutes of my second call to your office telling me that somebody was on their way to finish off the job. In the event, the bed was made up and used linen removed, and we had a lovely break in a lovely part of the country.

This is a warm, comfortable cottage in a perfect location for beach, town and the wonderful river walk we always enjoy on our regular visits to Suffolk. Kitchen, well thought out with every item and appliance you could need. The welcome basket, again, well thought out - tea bags, sugar, coffee gorgeous apple juice, the all important Stokes sauces with Aldeburgh traditional favourites in mind. Ketchup for the famous fish and chips across the road. Tartare and mayonnaise for the fish, fresh and smoked you'll buy from the fisherman's huts along the beach. Comfy sofas. Comfy bed and so importantly, incredibly clean, cosy and warm. Also, if you've never been to Aldeburgh you can't put a price on having your own parking space.

For me, the staircase rail partially disappeariing halfway up the stairs was tricky. And thd big step to the bathroom was something to think about, but negotiable. Otherwise, I found the cottage comfortable and well-stocked. I am not fond of induction hobs but it was used a few times. I would recommend it, but maybe not for those with any mobility issues. I take responsibilty for not having checked about stairs or steps but it was fine for six days. And there is parking and a convenient walk to the shops and activity in the town. I think the heaters could beecome irritating in the winter, but it was a warm week and there was no problem.

We really enjoyed our visit to Suffolk. If the owners provided a welcome pack and logs to burn, it would have added to the stay, as first impressions matter. We were aware that the holiday let did not offer this when booking, and almost went elsewhere as it's the smaller, thoughtful details that count and that are remembered. But the barn was clean and comfortable. Walks were amazing and the peace and quiet with no light pollution wonderful. We had a very relaxed week at Snow Hall Barn.
