What our customers say about their holidays
Karl - Verified booking
The area is not particularly good for dog walkers who are looking for: a.
Long country walks, as the styles are not dog friendly and in some cases were blocked or locked by farmers. b. a local field to let their dog off for ball throwing etc. The only community field in the vicinity calls for dogs to be kept on a lead. If you want to use the restaurant facility for the Farthings Hotel immediately adjacent, then you really need to book. Not because the place is that popular and there will be a lack of room; but because the owner guests stressed out if everything is not planned and lined up to his liking (told us he'd serve us in about half an hour if we wanted to come back, but made us feel most unwelcome - so we voted with our feet). The fish and chip wagon comes along on a Wednesday, but not when they're on holiday. Not sure how you get to know though, as there's nothing mentioned on their website so we were unfortunately wandering the village looking for them and only to be disappointed. Quist Cottage itself is becoming a little tired now and probably due a good spruce up, but to be fair it's got a lovely garden and is exceptionally well equipped. Generally, this is a lovely location and ideal if you're looking for peace and quiet, but still within a short drive to shops and restaurants.

Really enjoyed our 1 week stay here in July 2020 just after National lockdown 1.
Lovely cottage and gardens in a beautiful area. Lots of room in the cottage. We spent most of our time when we were at the cottage between the kitchen and the garden. In the kitchen area there is the large dining table and chairs and a handy sofa and TV. We spent a lot of time in the evening in the games room playing table tennis and darts. We were very lucky with the weather so were able to enjoy 2 or 3 barbecues and we cooked at the cottage (kitchen utensils were abundant) apart from one evening when we ate out. Fantastic area for exploring. We visited the Watchet area on Bridgwater Bay, Lyme Regis on Lyme Bay and many places in between. I'd recommend the cottage and the area and would go back myself.

The house and grounds were perfect for our stay.
We held a family party while we were there and the children played happily in the gardens, climbing trees, playing hide and seek and generally doing what children should do. The house is exceptionally well equipped with everything we needed and the large fridge/freezer was a blessing. Upstairs the roomy bathroom helped with small children and there was plenty of room for us all to have our own space but get together when we wanted to. The village is beautiful, with a play park across the road and lots of lovely walks. The Farthings hotel is wonderful for an evening drink or a beautiful supper and the pub down the road is friendly and family orientated. I would recommend Quist Cottage unreservedly.

Booking Reference: 5G7TL-24-EN Hello Our stay at Quist Cottage was memorable to say the least, the weather was kind to us, and the views magnificent.
However the cottage could have been cleaner, spiders, spiders webs and dust were common. Had it been cleaned before we got in ? There were things that were dangerous as well , the fire extinguishers were undated (for standard requirements), the smoke alarm was missing its battery and had its cover missing, one of the kitchen chairs was splintered, the amount of dead Insect refuse behind the cupboards,TV and beds , but the bed issue being bad (as on of our party suffer from asthma), the quantity of grime everywhere including in the oven was appalling. I have loads of photos to support these concerns. I look forward to your comments. Regards David Jones

An extractor fan in the bathroom would be a help.
The outdoor temperature for our stay was around 18 to 20 degrees. It proved difficult to air the bathroom as the heating was not scheduled to come on (there were no instructions about the heating so we assume it is pre-set). The bathroom is downstairs and the window opens into next door's yard, but in any case the overall temperature was too cool to drive away the damp feeling. This is not a major grumble, but it could be eased without too much trouble. The cottage is very snug and in a very attractive and convenient location. We had a very enjoyable holiday and we will certainly consider using Sykes again, and possibly coming back to Boo Cottage.
