What our customers say about their holidays

There were many plusses to this cottage, the photos show these and they are accurate.
I will however concentrate on points that may be of interest to people making future bookings so that they may be taken into consideration. apart from the parking, everything else below could be corrected by the owners. The internet speed is terrible, lots of dropout everyday. I tested it regularly and on a good day for a short period it would be 11 megabytes per second, with and upload of 0.2. It's BT Internet. I thought that this was a consequence of being in a rural area, until we had various meals in the four pubs in the village which are 250 metres away and what took 45 minutes to one hour to download in the cottage, such as a guided walk and map for the area, took 1.5 seconds in the pubs. The cottage has a very old BT router. I strongly suggest that this is replaced with a smarthub and suscribe to a better connection speed. I would happily pay the extra £5 per week on top of the current price. It has a very large, lovely smart TV. That's where it ends. There are very few channels on terrestrial TV, with great gaps between say channel 5 and then the next is channel 31 and the next 57. It's because there is no Freeview on the TV. They state that Netflix, iPlayer, ITV Hub, Amazon Prime Video are available. That is true. However you can't access them for more than 4-5 seconds at a time as the buffering is absolutely terrible and was so everyday. Often none of these were available as they would not open. We tried watching a film or a programme so many times, but instead watched only a tiny clip, followed by minutes of the buffering sign and then a notice 'Whoops sorry something has happened, please try later'. The cause is the apalling download speed / broadband width and the constant dropout. The bathroom in the main bedroom is modern and very impressive, until you use the shower. It is an open shower and despite experimenting with the shower, taking the flow down to the lowest possible setting, the outflow in the floor could not cope. Water soon made its way across the floor. We stopped using it and used the tiny, but effective shower in the second bathroom. The kitchen is nice, except for the electric Aga which takes a long time to heat up, then you cannot control the heat. Makes cooking difficult, especially as there is only one ring for cooking and one ring to keep food warm. It looks nice and cottage-like, but is a real nuisance and a disappointment. Please replace this with a modern cooker, with 3/4 cooking rings, an oven that you can control and even set timings. With the big black oven door, once closed you cannot see anything.

The house is in a great location right on the sea front and close to shops, restaurants and cafes.
It was clean and comfortable with good quality beds, bedding and towels. We especially loved the large open plan kitchen dining area and the sitting room. As a large family group this was perfect for us. The few niggles we had were firstly on the practical domestic front. We preferred to cook most evenings and discovered the cooker seal had come off so we fixed this. We also found that some toilet roll holders had come off, which we couldnât fix. Finally, as mentioned in details about the house, the Nook bar next door has live music from Tuesday to Saturday. We were aware of this when booking though discovered that when it is a live guitarist/band that as this is in the front bar right next to the front of the house it is as loud as though you are actually sitting in the bar because there is no noise reduction. Maybe the owner (if they havenât already) could speak to the Nook about moving this to the back of the bar or adding in some kind of noise reduction. Also, people smoking outside can tend to sit on the front door step and leave cigarette butts and bottles of beer which isnât so nice when leaving the house in the morning! Coming from London where we live opposite a pub we were expecting and prepared for the noise but found these aspects unfortunate as the house is so lovely.

This is a superb property, one of the best I ever stayed in.
It's quiet (there is another house between this one and the road; access is through a passage). Someone went to a lot of trouble and expense making it so lovely. The living room and main bedroom are surprisingly large. The garden area is very pleasant (though the photo on the webpage doesn't do it justice). I think the best thing was the shower in the main bedroom, it was magnificent -- pipes and handles and knobs galore (and seemed new, designed to be an Edwardian thowback I suppose). I only have three complaints. First, the bed in the smaller bedroom had a rock-hard mattress: OK for children but my daughter (in her mid-twenties) ended up sleeping on the living room sofa. Second, the kettle in the kitchen didn't work right, switched itself off when the water in it was nowhere near boiling. We had to run it three or four times in succession to make it hot enough to make tea. And third, one of the light switches in the living room didn't work (the one controlling the recess lights over the kitchen countertop.) But everything else was great: the Aga worked fine, the tv was fantastic, the water pressure was excellent. I have no other complaints at all, really excellent.

My family and I booked Palm Trees, Polzeath for Christmas 2019. I was a little apprehensive as Christmas is an important time of year - I neednât have worried. Palm Trees was a delight. The apartment is surprisingly large and airy. The linen was fresh and crisp and the standard of cleanliness was excellent. The layout is perfect for family harmony as there are two bedroom/bathroom areas with the living area in between, offering space for people to go off and be quiet if they want to. The kitchen is very well equipped and spacious with ample side space for family catering. The second fridge and freezer in the foyer were very useful for extra storage. The living room was cosy and we made two of the puzzles during our stay, as well as dipping into the house library. The local area was breathtaking - wonderful cliff top walks, surfing and beach combing in the rock pools. The local cafes and pubs were numerous and very friendly. The beach cafe was even open on Christmas Day for bacon butties and bring your own mug hot drinks - (it was so busy they ran out of take away cups). I would recommend this apartment for its private parking, private garden and comfortable atmosphere.
