What our customers say about their holidays

I was disappointed by the huge price increase this year.
It is a comfortable property with a lovely view and my family has been coming annually for over 10 years. We love it here. However for such a huge increase in price I would have expected a sunshade for the patio (I asked Sykes to request this from the owner when I made my booking in January and the said that they thought this would in place as there is no shade on the patio ). In addition, the hoover is so difficult to manoeuvre and does not pick up properly and has been in this condition for years. It is a real struggle to use as it really pulls on your back. The rug in the front room looks lovely but does not lie flat and is curled up at the edges and is a trip hazard. I had to take it up as I feared for the safety of my mother. Many of the saucepans and baking sheets were dirty and so I had to wash them prior to using and the laundry room was covered in sand on my arrival. Much of the crockery was chipped. These are just small niggles which I would not have ordinarily have mentioned and have only done so as it now costs £3000 a week to rent. For that price, people expect more. In addition, if you have a problem (there was a leak in the bathroom) and you call Sykes, they then have to call john bray and then get back to you. It is really an inefficient way of operating and wastes lots of tine. Sykes donât seem to have any understanding of the property or area. This is just honest feedback - I love staying here but I thought you would appreciate an honest reflection of someone who loves this property and has been a grateful regular and respectful visitor to this home.

He holiday bungalow we stayed in was really lovely and exactly what our family wanted.
As A professional landlord myself two things I would say need addressing is the pictures on the website need updating as the bathrooms have been modernised nicely albeit en-suite in bedroom is not finished so we could not shower properly in there. The other issue is the drains have obviously got issues with the fall and block easily before the waste gets to the cesspit. On arrival I could see tissue paper around the edges of the inspection covers by the front of the property but just presumed they had recently been unblocked and this was just mess left from workmen. When we realised they were blocked we called Sykes cottages to raise concern as the toilets were blocked and the downstairs shower was not draining so we could not use the facilities we called John bray and Sykes cottages 5 times to ask to get an engineer to unblock them. We were told on the first 4 phone calls this would be sorted and they would call myself back - they never called back, on the 5 and last time of calling the woman on the phone could see on the computer notes that we had called but nothing had been done about it. She also assured me it would get sorted and we never heard from her either. We left the following day to come home with the drains still blocked and still today no one has called back. Awful service as my family could not use the toilets or shower in the rental property and we had to go elsewhere. As a fellow landlord I hope the owner sorts this with the rental companies and maintenance as it was completely unacceptable and put a large dampener on the end of our holiday.

We liked the âBeach Houseâ very much - it was ample for our needs.
The beds were comfortable and it had a lovely large kitchen. It was a shame that the tumble dryer wasnât working as we got extremely wet due to the weather and it would have been handy to dry clothes quickly. We found the heating controls problematic and one night when the temperature dropped we were struggling to keep warm. I donât think the radiator in the kitchen ever came on during our stay. There were a few cobwebs and accompanying spiders on the stairwell/ceiling corners but no real problem. It was tricky to get in and out of the shower due to the towel radiator blocking the screen. We had to manouver over the toilet to get in and out, but the bathroom was lovely and warm. The owner might want to make it clear about the rubbish arrangements. It was confusing to have a council notice and recycle options but it would appear that there was no recycling because a business contract was in place for rubbish removal. The house was ideally situated for us, central to the places we wanted to visit and walkable to the pub. I also took the dog for a walk to Polzeath which was great.

We had a really nice stay here for the last week of the summer holidays, the property had a lovely shower, it was nice and spacious, a very good location for access to all the main roads, shops and beaches etc.
It was clean and some milk and a few tea bags were left for our arrival + some wine which was very thoughtful. A few problems we had that would prevent a future stay for us were a lack of drying area,s for our wet beach items each day, being an apartmentmnet there is no outside space or balcony in which to hang wet clothing towels etc, there is one bent airer drier that does not provide adequate room for drying 4 peoples towels each day, plus we had to us the same drying rack to dry our towels we used for showing each day on the same small rack, it was mentioned in a previous review that is was an issue, I ignored that review thinking it can't be that bad, but it was really quiet hard work each day, some days we just had to take our wet towels to the beach as we couldn't get them dry because we had no where to hang them. Perhaps a tumble dryer is necessary it would have solved all of this problem or at least two airer driers to hang wet items on.

There were a few issues.
Time of arrival stated as 3pm on all paperwork but were told on arrival by cleaners it was 5pm. Difficult after long journey and one of the party suffering from ME and looking forward to lie down. Beautiful views but not stated anywhere that property on steep hill and 5 min access to village and beach gained only by going up and down steep hill - again difficult if you have ME. Niggles with front door lock seizing which was notified but not resolved 3 days later. Property pretty tired and little issues like showerhead not keeping in place but kept dropping down when used. Also several light bulbs not working. Summary - I think it would be beneficial to state that property is on hill and access to beach/village when walking is via steep hill (holidaymakers aren't always young and fit). Also the arrival time should be accurate to allow better travel planning. Property would benefit from a bit more maintenance.
