What our customers say about their holidays
Hilary - Verified booking
This is our second visit to this holiday flat and it will not be our last.
As before we loved being in this spacious, clean, light, quiet, well appointed flat which is so conveniently located. There was again the lovely generous gift of flowers and wine on arrival together with the thoughtful provision of such basics as milk, tea and coffee. We left a list of things that we thought could be improved in our previous evaluation. We saw that these had been noted and ticked off in the message we'd left in the Guest Book. We'd suggested that the kitchen lighting needed to be improved and indeed it has been. Also this time the boiler was working to perfection providing plenty of hot water for baths, showers and washing up and a good level of heat for the flat. As we cooked a meal every evening at the flat, kitchen equipment and conditions were important. There were good new pots in the kitchen as we had recommended. The frying pans are still not very good--we suggest that these be replaced. Last year we had a terrible time trying to figure out how to use the oven. We asked for printed instructions to be made available. There was a manual for the use of the hob but still no instructions for the oven. Happily, we managed to work it out and had several pans of delicious roasted vegetables! All in all we were impressed with the attention given to our remarks and suggestions. When we arrived the overhead light in the large bedroom was not working as the light bulb had been broken off in the socket. One day when we returned 'home' after a day out, we found that the television was on! The next day we noticed that the overhead bedroom light was working. Someone had come in the day before and set it right. We did not mind having someone come into the flat while we were away--especially to do such a good turn--but it would have been nice had they left a note to say they had been in. The flat is very near to Tesco and is close to the excellent shop, The Good Earth. Also it is easy to get a bus ( the station is nearby) to Glastonbury where there is a very fine health food supermarket (well worth visiting!), Earthfare. We enjoyed lunches at The Good Earth restaurant, the cafes at the Cathedral and the Bishop's Garden and in Glastonbury, The Rainbow Café. As vegans, we often struggle to find good food when we eat out but not so in Wells and Glastonbury. Vegans and vegetarians take note! Should the owner of the flat wish to invest in some improvements at some point, a blind in the kitchen would be nice to afford privacy and much firmer mattresses would be very good. However, we are overall really delighted with the flat. Even the fourth floor location (no lift) is a great free fitness workout. We look forward to staying here again.

Exceptionally stunning cottage located in a beautiful village.
Bigger than we expected and the views were beautiful. The outside area was perfect for our 4 year old and secure for our small dog so we were comfortable letting him roam the garden area. Kitchen was really well stocked with equipment and white goods - even had a separate small drinks fridge. The bathrooms were beautifully spacious and bright. Plenty of parking too and we didn't feel overlooked or crowded by the surrounding farm or cottages. We were able to see the cows every morning and evening which was brilliant - especially for our son. This has been the cleanest holiday cottage we have ever rented as well, being dog friendly we were even more impressed. Helen was incredibly helpful and friendly throughout our stay - she even provided us with candles and torches during an unexpected power cut and kept us up to date with estimated times and that the entire village was affected. We were left to our own devices but could knock the door for any issues we had and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend taking a torch if your planning a late evening jaunt to the pub as the village has no streetlights but it definitely added to the ambience on the walk home - We used phone torches and were absolutely fine. The local pub The Victoria Inn is a must visit as the food is delicious, a quint essential country pub in its decoration with small dining huts outside (a few even have chandeliers) and play area is great for kids. The staff are friendly and dogs are welcomed too. They were able to cater to various allergies which was really appreciated. The cottage is surrounded by 100s of walks and easy access to Wells (where Hot Fuzz was filmed), Glastonbury, Cheddar Gorge and Street. Thank you Helen, we had an incredible week and would return again in a heartbeat.

I was in two minds about whether to leave a review or not because we had a very mixed stay.
I decided that even if this doesnt get published, then the feedback to the owner would help others in the future: Good: We had two main criteria when we were looking for where to book: Firstly: Location - we wanted somewhere we could walk out to for food/drink and so we loved the location, with easy parking, quiet neighbours (in fact we were convinced only a few of the other appratments were occupied), and the appartment was well equipped with wifi (an essential these days), dishwasher, utensils, freeview etc. Bad: Our second main criteria was a superking bed. Unfortunately, just pushing two single beds together and throwing a king size duvet on top does not make it a superking. Please please please if the intention is to continue hiring it out as a superking at the very least it needs a decent superking mattress topper so you feel you are in the same bed with your partner, and a full size duvet so you dont spend all night fighting each other to be covered. Carrying on with the negatives, was the cleanliness. One of the conditions of booking is to clean the place on departure - however it appears the owner relies on this rather than doing a proper clean themselves, so despite the note in the kitchen to say it had been made covid safe, we still found rubbish on the floor and quite a thick layer of dust on things like the heated towel rail/radiator in the bathroom - so as it hadnt been cleaned fully it raised doubts on whether it could really be descrived as covid clean.

Booked for a family get together.
Although not a disabled cottage, we booked for the downstairs bedroom and bathroom for ourselves, only to find there were a small staircase up to the downstairs facilities. Since I booked the cottage last year my brother became disabled and Helen was very helpful and supplied a single bed in the lounge, problem was the downstairs toilet was down 2 long unmarked steps past the kitchen with no handrail, so was forced with difficulty upstairs at night, this also meant my brother could not access the kitchen. I think these details should be made obvious, as with saying there was a downstairs bedroom and bathroom suggests good for anyone with limited mobility, defiantly a handrail down to kitchen and toilet needed. Also some minor things lacking such as bin liners and dishwasher tablets ( there were only 2!) No way to mop the shower after use, without having to request a mop, and there was no way to fit the Stairgate that was identified in the cottage details, which would have been useful as the first bedroom was right next to the top of stairs. Helen was very helpful in trying to accommodate our requests, the cottage was nice and clean but Sykes should be more accurate with the details, it's the details that they leave out that are sometimes very important. Only suitable for the able bodied, having downstairs facilities implies otherwise. June Wale from Devon, london and Birmingham

The flat is in an excellent location--very central which was especially good for us as we have no car.
It was very clean. airy, open and nicely furnished with good pictures, books, great views from some of the windows and very well equipped. We were surprised and pleased to find roses and a bottle of wine on our arrival. There were a few problems: no instructions on how to use the oven (we looked up the model on our tablet and worked it out but it was a challenge); the boiler did not work properly so at times we were too cold and the hot water for baths and showers was unreliable and sometimes unavailable; no lift is a drawback although we were able to manage--on our arrival a kind resident carried up our bags!; there was not enough light in the kitchen; and the pots and pans were really inadequate--they need to be replaced. We cooked a meal together every night so the kitchen facilities were really important to us. The knives were excellent! We did enjoy the flat overall and certainly would recommend it and be happy to use it again. We especially appreciated being so close to the cathedral (we attended several services), the bus station--we made many day trips and food shopping venues. It really was quite lovely to be able to see the sunrise over St.Cuthbert's and the cathedral whilst lying in bed (from one of the bedrooms).
