What our customers say about their holidays

We really enjoyed our stay at The old Cider Barn and will be booking to go again later in the year, when hopefully the weather will be a bit better!
The cottage is very well equipped and very clean and tidy. The fittings and fixtures are first class and you can see that a lot of thought has been put in to the build and fittings of the house. The twin beds were comfortable, but very noisy if you turned over in the night the other occupant of the room would certainly know! It is well situated for trips to the coast and also to various interesting towns nearby. There is little or no mobile phone coverage at the property and no internet, so if this is important to you, then this is not the property for you, personally it was good since you are not bothered by calls etc. if you need internet it is available in the pub next door and also at the Wookey Hub just down the road. The owner Mr Spearman was very helpful and when we arrived there was milk in the fridge and mince pies and a bottle of wine to greet us, a lovely touch. He also came and introduced himself to us and was most helpful. All in all a very enjoyable and restful break over Christmas.

Absolutely gorgeous little cottage, located right next door to a bustling pub with great food (and yet somehow absolutely zero noise.
To the point where you just wouldnât even know it was there). Free off road designated parking available so no challenge to find somewhere to park. Located a minute or so walk from the local shop and cafe too for great breakfasts. And a short drive from lots of local towns and villages. Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet, Street, and Wells all within a short drive, and Weston, Bristol, Taunton, Bath, Frome a little further. Ideal location for exploring Somerset and beyond. Only thing worth being aware of - and this is not a criticism at all. In fact, could well be a selling point⦠you wonât get phone signal, and there is no wifi. It is available at the pub and shop/cafe, but if youâre needing to check in digitally on a regular basis then you need to be aware of this. All in all, a lovely stay, helpful owners who checked in by email, cottage perfect. Would definitely return.

Had a great stay in April at The Cider Barn in Wookey, perfect location, very handy for everywhere.
We walked to the Wookey Caves, which was only a couple of miles. Three great local pubs all within walking distance, one actually next door, due to this there is constant cars parked down the side of the property which does affect privacy but you get used to it. The cottage had everything we needed, very compact. My only negatives would very that you have to go outside the front door to get access to the rear garden/seating area, as there is no back door, so we found we only used it once. Also I found the double bed a bit uncomfortable, seemed smaller than a normal double and due to a mattress protector, as a middle aged female, it made me overheat a lot, whence I didn't really get a good night sleep. But apart from this it was great and we would return if coming dow to this area again.

This is a beautifully renovated cottage with excellent outdoor space including parking.
The views are amazing and the location on the edge of the village is lovely and quiet but still walking distance to the pub and Wookey Hole. It was well placed for visiting nearby Wells, Cheddar, Glastonbury and Bath. What would have made our stay even better: supplying little things like a kitchen roll, an extra tea towel and some baking trays to cook on. Some of the utensils need updating - the tin opener didnât work! Also some plastic cutlery, cups and plates for guests like us with children would be a big help. There was also quite a lot of mould in the wet room and cobwebs on the ceiling lights. Expectations were high with this being rated an excellent property by Sykes. Addressing these issues would place it in that category for us.

This property does not have any WiFi and there is no usable phone signal either.
Unfortunately this was not clear when we booked the place, in fact we thought there was slow wifi (which would have been fine), but had we known there was no WiFi and no Internet then we would not have booked this place. The floorboards creak really badly upstairs especially in the 2nd bedroom making the wardrobe and door rattle very loudly. There was a bad smell from the shower drain which the host tried to sort out but it didn't work. The hob on the oven is very old fashioned but usable. We cooked there most evenings. Other than the above the place is really nice and comfortable. It is very well located for walking in the area and our host was very good.
