Whitley Bay Holiday Cottages

Whitley Bay is a traditional Victorian coastal town. It has a long, golden sandy beach that is great for a blustering walk or a bucket and spade day out, a refurbished Spanish City, and a lighthouse accessible only on low tide. There are also golf, mini golf, and foot golf courses to entertain the whole family. Enjoy a cottage in Whitley Bay with your family or friends and discover the pleasures of the northern coast.

Reasons for Staying in Whitley Bay

The Beach

Whitley Bay Beach is one of the most accessible beaches in the northeast. With two miles of soft golden sand, there is plenty of room to have fun with the family. Chances are you'll be walking as the mighty North Sea winds batter the coastline, giving a refreshing change to the usual day on the beach. You'll want to visit the far north of the beach at low tide because you can cross to the Victorian Lighthouse. Climb the 137 stairs to the top, where a fantastic view of Whitley Bay and the sea awaits. South of the beach is the Spanish City. This Victorian-style arcade was refurbished in 2018 to be an incredible attraction. It now hosts many different restaurants and is a location for various events. Enjoy your beachside cottage in Whitley Bay and get the best deal with our price guarantee. Discover the ideal last-minute holiday cottage for you and your family now.

Walking

The best place to start walking around Whitley Bay is from the lighthouse. From there, you can walk along the clifftops to Seaton Sluice beach, stopping for refreshments at The Astley Arms. From here, you can return the way you came, walk to the castle remains at Starlight Castle, or visit one of the many small inland towns and villages. There is plenty to explore both along the coast and heading inland. Book your dream cottage in Whitley Bay, maybe a cottage with a hot tub to relax your feet after a long walk. This is easy to do with our simple booking system and market leading customer service, who are on hand should you need help.

Where to Stay in Whitley Bay

For a beach holiday with lots of activity, staying around the Spanish City area would be best for you. This is in the south of Whitley Bay. To the north of Whitley Bay will be quieter, and you'll be closer to the lighthouse and golf course. This is the place to stay for long coastal walks or a game of golf with friends. Wherever you stay in Whitley Bay, you'll get an excellent deal for a professionally managed cottage that is perfect for you and your family or friends.

Places to Visit in and Around Whitley Bay

Bamburgh has a mighty castle that is great for the kids and a stunning beach.

Seahouses is a large harbourside village in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Beadnell is a village with terrific beaches and intriguing coastal rock formations.

Alnwick is a small market town with an immense castle and a theme park.

What our customers say about their holidays

  • Su - Verified booking

After travelling from Inverness to my native NE several times a year for the last 19 years to visit family and friends, we have stayed at dozens of holiday lets, but this is our favourite and the best by far.

Communication with the owner prior and throughout was excellent. So friendly and polite. Earsdon is a lovely little country village and perfectly based for visiting the coast. Having the best of both worlds was especially wonderful as we could take our little dog, who was spoiled for walks. We booked the cottage for 2 weeks over Christmas and it was lush walking in to see it decked out with a gorgeous tree, a garland running up the stair, a wreath and cute little decorations. All very tasteful and in keeping with the stunning decor. It smelled/smelt (never know which it is!) gorgeous too. It was immaculate, and so warm and cosy. This meant so much to me as we’ve walked into some places rated 4&5 star and they’ve been filthy and run down! They left a very impressive festive hamper on the table for us which was so thoughtful and kind. Got tucked into the cheesy crackers straight away. Such a warm welcome. The kitchen is so well kitted out. It even has a crock pot, which we used once to do a curry. We ate out mostly though as there are such nice places to eat nearby (the beehive along the road and 1910 at the Spanish city). I can’t even tell you how great it was to have a tumble dryer! God send. All high end appliances. Lovely comfy beds. So quiet at night! I can’t recommend this gorgeous little cottage enough. Will defo be booking again, delightful. Thank you so much to the wonderful hosts, it would be nice to meet you guys one day! X

The cottage is set in a great location within Cullercoats.

Minutes’ walk from the local beaches and local amenities. 5 minute walk to the Metro station which is ideal if you planning a trip to Newcastle and other areas. The cottage downstairs is spacious and ideal for couples. The only problem is the front door does not open or lock from the inside which is an issue getting to and from the car etc this needs to be resolved (we are a bit disappointed as a previous review had already highlighted this problem) not sure how the door issue would stand with health and safety of the property. the multi fuel burner is very cosy I would suggest some tools to help with the fire (tongs etc) The upstairs main bedroom is a good size with plenty of space to store your clothes, the bed is a good size and comfortable however the damp patch on the ceiling is not a nice thing to wake up to also you just need to remember the low ceiling if you wake up in the night. the second bedroom with two single beds is cosy. The kitchen is clean and narrow and as most of the implements you would require to cook although it does lack a corkscrew and bottle opener, the damage to the ceiling could do with some repair. The toilet and bath/shower room are at the end of the kitchen it is clean and cosy, however the water temperature is tepid at best not ideal a very quick shower is best. Overall, the cottage is great.

Lovely house in a great location!

Generally well presented but could to with a little more attention to detail (or additional time for paid cleaners?) in some areas on the cleaning. Kitchen was reasonably well equipped but lacking oven gloves, and a few more bowls and cutlery would have been handy. The towels could do with a bleach too, or if using eco friendly washing products it may be wise not to have 'white' ones... The issue with the bedroom door handles provided us with a good laugh the first morning but is actually serious and needs addressing. People cannot get out of bedroom 2 if bedroom 1 door is shut as the handles cannot pass each other. Bedroom 1 needs to leave the door 'pushed to' rather than closed to get around this. Previous guests had left a soaking wet tea towel inside the closed washing machine so it was smelly! machine cleaning cycle run - sorted... and done a fairly rubbish job of cleaning crockery too, but putting it through the dishwasher solved this... Some people!? On the more positive side the cottage is full of character, the space is lovely and comfy in the main living area, and the shower is instant and always warm. Neighbours were quiet and the location is second to none for access to local shops and beach. Great to have the enclosed yard space for the dog to safely go out too. We would stay again :)

The cottage was in a great location, the beds were comfy, the living space generous and it was mostly well equipped.

However, the dishwasher wasn’t working and obviously hadn’t been used for a while due to condition inside. There was no information to say it wasn’t so we wasted quite a lot of time trying to get it to work. Couldn’t get through to Sykes and there were no other contact details. Someone arrived on our last day to replace it but said they had been told the cottage would be empty. Also there was no green bin outside for the external rubbish and no way of reporting this. It looked as though previous guests had been using the recycling bin for all rubbish so it was getting really full. We were worried this would not be collected on collection day but luckily it was, perhaps as we had only used it for recycling thereafter. The cottage appeared clean and tidy but we soon realised that there was quite a lot of dust. The bathroom door didn’t shut. Overall we enjoyed our stay but with a bit of attention to maintenance, cleanliness and communication it could have been a lot better.

This was a lovely cottage for two and we had a great stay.

the accommodation was comfortable and surprisingly spacious and the kitchen was equipped with all we required for our stay. Beds were very comfortable, the shower was simple to use and all was clean and ready for our arrival. A few things would have made our stay even better: 1) there were no directions sent re parking which is not actually on Simpson St itself and we located it thanks to the help of a neighbour. Directions would have been helpful. 2) the lack of side tables in the lounge area made it difficult to relax with a glass of wine or cup of tea as there was nowhere else to place them but on the floor. 3) some of the instructions in the manual in the cottage were lacking - e.g. there was no detail as to what rubbish or recycling went in which bin; no details re how the thermostat controlling the heating worked. Finally, we discovered when attempting to put the heating on one evening that the thermostat unit's batteries were dead and needed replacing.
