What our customers say about their holidays

We chose the property because of it's location, we wanted to explore the prehistoric landscape of Wiltshire and this was just about equidistant between the two main sites at Stonehenge and Avebury, but wow what a choice we made! The cottage surpassed all expectations, it was beautifully decorated with a tasteful mix of modern and antique. The kitchen was a real cook's kitchen, it wanted for nothing; the showers were generous and the beds supremely comfortable. We had the added benefit of glorious weather, so spent much of our time in the delightful cottage garden, with nothing but the odd tractor and the bees to disturb us. My only regret the weather was too warm to snuggle up in front of the fire or have a soak in that sumptuous bath....we will have to come back for a winter break for that! PS the quality of the welcome pack was outstanding, probably the best we've ever had in 40 or so years of self-catering holidays.

We felt the photos did not do the property justice - gorgeous and cosy cottage with enough space for 4 adults, baby and a dog to relax after busy days of walking and exploring.
The travel cot requested had been forgotten but a call on arrival and it was there and ready for us within 20 minutes. A couple of other things hadn't been replenished such as logs for the fire but I'm sure we could of contacted the host for these if we wanted them, she seemed very friendly. An excellent little base with good walks from the door, we loved heading to Woodgreen for lunch in The Horse and Groom and also had delicious fish and chips from the chippy a few doors down from the cottage. Getting in and out of the car port was a little challenging but the very friendly neighbour popped out and opened up his drive to allow us to turn the cars around so we didn't need to reverse out to the road. We are already planning when we can come and stay again as we loved it so much!

The cottage was beautiful and would recommend it to friends but it is missing the 5 star as there were one or two niggles. The shower in the bedroom without the bath definitely needs to be a power shower. There were no soaps etc supplied and the host say that most people prefer their own but they still should be provided. The kitchen is perfect apart from there is no microwave, kitchen roll, tin opener or scissors (very useful for cutting the rind off bacon when making a full English breakfast for my friends). Also the food that was left complementary for our arrival was not to the usual standard. It should always be artisan bread not just o loaf from a supermarket. Other than that perfect.

The house is beautiful, furnished to a very high standard.
However, we had two problems. We had several power cuts because something was blowing the trip switch. The housekeeper tried to be helpful but it was a Sunday so difficult to get someone in. We managed with that. The second, the shower in the main bathroom only produced a trickle of water and it wasnât very warm, although there was hot water in the basin. This was difficult. We were 6 adults and we all had to use the en-suite where there was a really good shower. On a simpler note, extra mugs or cups would be handy, there were 6 but they always seemed to be in the dishwasher. A lovely house though, hopefully those things can be fixed.

The whole cottage inside and out displayed the high standard expected of a Rural Retreat accommodation. Modern fittings in the kitchen and bathrooms complemented the tasteful furnishings through out the cottage. Good welcome guide, although we did have a hunt for the on switch for the heated towel rail in bedroom 1 . Kitchen was very well equipped but maybe room for a microwave? The village of Urchfont was a delight being well served by a community shop, post office and the lamb pub not forgetting the duckpond. In all we consider the whole experience of our stay at the cottage to match a five star rating
