What our customers say about their holidays

I donât normally respond to feedback requests, but I emailed Menai a month ago to express my concerns and as they havenât troubled themselves with a response, Iâm publishing them here.
We love the house, it has great sentimental importance to us (we hosted our wedding reception here in 2016 with a marquee in the garden), however, I donât feel itâs being particularly well looked after and that aggrieves me. Before we arrived, in fact when were in the car on the way there, Menai called us to tell us there were challenges with the central heating - that the radiators would need turning down as the heating was on constantly. We accepted this - the electrician came on the Saturday (we havenât noticed a difference). However, this is but one of many problems, that indicate that the property is simply not being maintained adequately. This list is by no means exhaustive, but in the time we were there we identified - - Extensive and significant peeling of paint across the house and in numerous rooms - this damages the atmosphere (Iâm sure itâs obvious why) - instances of black mould, most notably and particularly in the back toilet downstairs beyond the utility room - this is a health hazard - the shower in the back of the property hums loudly like a steam train when itâs used - this means we canât shower once the kids are in bed - the radiators by those back bedrooms hum loudly in the middle of the night , this has bothered me as Iâve tried to go to sleep and I think woken one of the kids up over the weekend - the signal to the sky box is not tuned in properly and on a quiet night with little inclement weather, the system cut out repeatedly (this is the only TV in the house and so with small kids, that can be a problem) - we found a number of radiators with their thermostatic valves taken off (I couldnât reattach them) and so the heating for these radiators could not be turned up or down - the sofas (which are the same as were here in 2016) are clearly very âwell lovedâ and are screaming out for replacement. The cushions are threadbare (which you must know as they have loose covers), the back of one has a large hole in it - some of the mattresses have clearly enjoyed long and illustrious careers and are in need of retirement - the springs offer little to no support and in one of the double beds, the mattresses are so worn that they are no longer the same height (the middle double bedroom over the back door) - the Bath which overlooks the parking courtyard has a dangerous fault - when the water drains from it, it leaks down through the ceiling in the kitchen, down the wall and onto/into the plugs/light switches above the dishwasher and drenches the floor - this could cause a serious electrical problem. The water isnât draining properly, that bath cannot be safely used until a plumber has stopped the leak - the back door leading out of the main living room does not meet fire regulations - there is a âknackâ to unlocking it, which we can usually manage. However, if we had to manage it in a fire, I wouldnât bet my childrenâs lives on it. That lock absolutely must be replaced now - the door handle for the back door has rusted off - we have found the odd stain to the carpet, not the end of the world but not the right ambiance either - some of the towels had stains - in truth, the internet is too slow for the devices of 2022 - the window of the ground floor bedroom is closed only by a single hand latch - this is not secure and to me represents a security risk I sent clear photos to Menai of many of these concerns. We love this property, it pains us to see it falling into disrepair. However, the listing and the condition are not as consistent as they should be. I told Menai about this by email on 19DEC22. Iâm writing this on 14JAN23, as at now, they have not responded. I rated myself as unlikely to recommend Menai because in my list of concerns are two serious safety concerns and they have seemingly done nothing.

When we arrived at the Cottage we found the second toilet area closed off.
We brought this up with yourselves and you contacted the owner and they brought the key and unlocked it. It obviously hadn't been used for sometime as it had not been cleaned and had cobwebs all around. We booked this cottage purely because it had two toilets as advertised on your site. This should be corrected for future holiday makers. The whole cottage needs some love and care, the cottage had not been cleaned at all. The cleaner had not cleaned the property before we arrived and had to come in the next day to clean the cottage, but they did not wash the floors in the kitchen/diner or in the bathroom or wash the bath out. We had already said that we had found toothpaste all on the shelf in the bathroom and there were cobwebs around the sink pedestal. The cloth on the table hadn't been wiped as we found ketchup marks on it. The fridges hadnt been cleaned as the one in the kitchen had an earwig in the door and was not wiped out properly and the one in the back utility room had not been wiped out and one shelf had been removed from the fridge and had cobwebs and was very dirty. The cupboards had cobwebs in the kitchen was in disarray. The plates and crockery was all over the place. The kick board on the base units were falling down. The extractor fan was really dirty which the cleaner did wipe but it did not work at all. We didn't even have a potatoe peeler but the owners very kindly brought one up for us. We were very disappointed with the cleanliness of the cottage and the electrical appliances had not been PAT tested this year they are out of date. I have another holiday booked with yourselves but I'm worried that we will have the same problems with our next cottage we have booked for next year. Do you not do send anyone to check on your cottages to see that they are in a good state of repair and fit for purpose.

Great stay overall.
The central heating seemed to be on a timer which we couldnât change and there was electric heaters dotted around so made us wonder if it was quite old and wasnât working as it should. It was warm in the main lounge/ kitchen with the fire, however our group had small babies with us. 3 under 1 and it was very cold in the night, we slept with our baby in the bed as I felt it was too cold in the room for her in her crib so that wasnât ideal as we wouldnât do co sleeping normally but I was worried about her. The weather was relatively mild too over new year so it could have been a lot colder. As adults under the sheets though it was fine! House is a good layout for big group and well equipped, everything you need in the kitchen to make meals. A little tired here and there furniture wise but comfortable and cosy, we had a great stay and there was lovely views and walks from the house. We really enjoyed our stay overall. One thing to note if taking young children, the walls are thick stone so the signal on baby monitors is very weak- all 3 different baby monitors had this issue so they had to be left in the hallway and we had to keep going out frequently to check the monitors so harder to relax in that sense. Would return as a group of adults but perhaps not with younger babies unless in summer when it wouldnât be cold. Nice welcome package on arrival! Great to read about the history of the house, house is very spacious too.

We were, initially, very excited upon entering Plas Elyn.
You can tell that the owners spent a lot of time and money doing the place up. I really enjoyed cooking in the kitchen and sitting in the dining room with a cosy blanket when it became chilly. The house has an amazing view and despite incredibly grumpy neighbours (actually, the woman not the man) we were very happy to be there. Unfortunately, there were a few things that were things with the house that caused real concern, which led us to think that either the current owners were duped when they purchased the house, or its on them. - The main room smelt of damp - there is definitely a leak in the house. The sooner they address this, the better for all concerned. - The boiler stopped working at least x4 times that we know of. As above re fixing - The stairs to the living area are unsafe - The radiator in the bedroom with the en-suite, never came on (this is where my mother-in-law was sleeping, so not good). In addition to that, the housekeepers forgot to leave towels in the loft rooms, and we were unable to use one of the loft rooms, because the carpet was soaking due to a previous guest. We could absolutely cope with the last two issues, however the heating/no hot water x4 times and the issue with the stairs left us very concerned with this property. I would hope the owners have the conscience to resolve our biggest concerns ASAP before someone really gets hurt. Kind regards Tina

Property is an absolutely fantastic building in an unbelievable location but unfortunately let down by maintenance and administration issues.
We arrived to receive a message that there was a blockage in one of the en-suite bathrooms and it was out of commission. We were informed a plumber would attend either the first or second day to repair it; despite contacting the agents on a number of occasions no plumber appeared. Yes, a first world problem, one of three en-suites being out of order but resulted in one couple being forced to constantly use the downstairs loo. Not what we paid top dollar for. Also disappointing that there was no information guide left for guests. As a result of this we had no idea that the apartment had access to a separate, private garden. Imagine how we felt when returning home to be told about the garden facility by the people who had previously stayed, and recommended the property to us. Instead we didnât venture into the garden as it was occupied by children in the flat below playing football. The lack of information also meant that we had no idea how to use the various, impressive entertainment equipment to found in the apartment and as for the complicated Welsh recycling system, anyoneâs guess. A really impressive property which, if everything was working/explained will provide excellent accommodation, just donât expect the owner/letting agent to do anything to make your stay a pleasant or easy one. A real pity.
