What our customers say about their holidays
Faye - Verified booking
The location of this property was just right for us.
Close enough to nice beaches, a nice local pub and a small supermarket. It is also quiet enough to relax in the evenings. The facilities provided were welcome and the home was clean and well-kept. The layout is also nice. Really light and airy. The garden is quite cute as well. I don't think the listing should describe the property as a detached bungalow - it is certainly not detached! This should be amended on the advert, as it is false. It didn't negatively impact our stay, but I do think the reference to a detached property makes it seem more luxurious than it is. I would say that it was overpriced for what you get. We paid just under £1,000 for 4 nights in the middle of July. We may have stayed again if the price was more realistic. We're going to Christchurch again at the end of August but we've chosen another property. Paradise Villa is advertised at a whopping £1,380 for 4 nights at the end of August. It is a lovely little bungalow but it is definitely not worth that amount. It's a good 45-minute walk to Avon Beach and 10-minute drive into Christchurch. Highcliffe beach is a 5-minute walk away but the best beach for utilities etc is Avon beach. So in summary, this holiday home is lovely - clean and a lovely layout - and the location is good. However, it's not detached and definitely not worth upwards of £900 for 4 nights. I would expect to pay that if it was closer to Mudeford and Christchurch centre.

Our stay was generally pleasant, the property is bright, airy and had a nice layout.
Check in was smooth and instructions were provided well in advance. The host is prompt with responses to queries. Things to note: the bed in the small room is very uncomfortable, the mattress needs replacing. Thereâs no microwave which may not be an issue for others but we needed to sterilise baby bottles so it was a bit of a nuisance using pots and pans. The kitchen is otherwise very well equipped. Although the listing states thereâs heating, the controls have been removed so you canât actually use it which feels a bit dishonest and the weather was quite cool and rainy whilst we were there and we couldnât dry our clothes. At the time of booking the property was listed as detached, itâs semi detached but this was not an issue and didnât affect our stay. Thereâs plenty of storage space for belongings. The garden is a nice place to sit and eat (grass needs cutting though). Overall we were happy with our stay but we would not return purely because the bed give me awful backache!

The cottage was delightful but I think more attention to detail is required for the price of the property.
The furniture is tired. The settee in the front room has stains on it and although comfortable to sit on I felt a little uncomfortable because of the way the cleanliness made me feel. The bed although comfortable squeaked every time you movedâ¦this needs looking at. The fridge had been cleaned with bleach prior to our arrival so smelt of bleachâ¦fridges shouldnât be cleaned with bleach. For some reason we couldnât get the fridge to workâ¦it kept freezing the food. The garden was nice but could be lovely with a bit more attention to detail. And it would have been nice if the garden furniture had been cleaned prior to our arrival. The conservatory was lovely but the skylight needed cleaning. Lots of cobwebs and dead flies. The bathroom had very large cobwebs in it. Overall the place is nice, cosy and peaceful but as said it needs a bit more TLC to make it better. Itâs in a lovely location and we would stay again for that reason.

Another good stay at Captains Retreat.
House was very clean and tidy, beds and seating very comfortable. Plenty of cutlery and plates etc. Instructions for kitchen appliances in drawers if required. Clothes drying racks on kitchen radiator plus an outside line attached to the shed. Small garden is now completely decked over and has garden chairs ( cushions in shed ) and table .Walk to river front is just a few minutes away, so is the bus stop if needed. High street shops are not far either. Beaches are around fifteen minutes drive. Childrenâs playground just around the corner opposite the river. Interesting to watch the nearby rowing club in the mornings and there is a small ferry boat linking this area with Wick on the opposite side of the river during season. Two allocated private parking bays directly outside the house in private road. Neighbours quiet and friendly.

Our second visit to the house at this time of year.
House is in a lovely location and overall we had an ok stay but I was extremely disappointed that the dishwasher was broken and there was no note to tell us, even though the owner and the cleaner were aware and still left a dishwasher tablet out like it was useable. House wasnât very clean, kitchen especially and lots of cobwebs downstairs which we cleaned ourselves. Only half the spot light bulbs were working in the kitchen. Kettle is missing the filter so water pours out extremely quickly which was dangerous. Took a long time for water to drain away in shower, house needs a deep clean and maintenance issues need to be addressed. Also building work taking place at neighbouring property so woke up to early morning building work noises which is not ideal on holiday.
