What our customers say about their holidays

Let me say, right away, that we enjoyed our break at Low Newton.
Not because of the cottage but because if the surrounding district. In estate agent's terms, the "kerb appeal" was not encouraging. The cottage was disappointing in many ways. To turn the car into a driveway that was no better than a muddy, puddle covered mess, was not a good start. We had to get in and out of the car on the road or risk stepping or slipping into the puddles. These puddles remained all week even though there was not a lot of rain. The car squeezed water onto the cracked path leading to the front door and the overgrown (and unnecessary) privet hedge made getting in and out of the car difficult. The garden was a mess, virtually untended. And then to enter the house to be greeted by a doormat, so worn that the base could be seen from above, didn't help the first impression. It appears that the cottage has been equipped to meet only the very minimum requirements. The furniture was cheap and not particularly comfortable. The fridge was not installed correctly so he door scraped on the floor, it didn't open properly and the ice-box had no handle. There was not sufficient cuttlery or mugs to run the dishwasher efficiently so we washed it by hand most of the time. In the cramped twin bedroom, the middle drawer of the chest of drawers didn't open properly and one tiny bedside table was quite unsatisfactory. Both the toilet and bathroom were useable but cramped. The cupboard, to the left of the fireplace was filthy and a bucket of ashes, left there, had not been emptied. In the double bedroom the bed frame needs sorting as well. The place gave the impression that the owners were not really bothered too much about how things looked. We have hired many cottages, over the years and this was the worst we have had. We spent almost £1000 on hire charges and still had to take our own towels which was very poor service I felt. I have to say I will be very careful about any recommendations I give people.

We stayed for 3 nights in Magpie Cottage and it was brilliant.
Cozy, comfy space, nicely decorated and well equipt. The washer & dryer is just a couple of doors along too if needed. Parking onsite is convenient and it was a lovely touch to have a local parking pass available to use as parking is free in the area if you display the pass. Paul and Jane were lovely hosts, super helpful and always available. It was a brilliant base to explore Northumberland with our pooch, we particularly loved the beaches at Blyth, Whitley Bay & Bamber. Duridge beach was also lovely when you get to it but the parking is on the verges on a small road. It was a small hassle though for the epically long beach and beautiful views. Duridge country park is also worth a visit. Morpeth was really nice too, lots of coffee shops, beautiful Carlisle Park and of course the fabulous Cheese Shop! All round great relaxing trip! The only reason we gave 2 slightly lower comments around facilities and accuracy of listing was just because the shop/pub was listed as 2.8 miles away and we thought we could walk to it and it may be helpful to note that this would be by car rather than walking (unless we missed a trick!) we would have loved to have taken the dog on a walk to the pub to stop for lunch and then walk back again but we could not find any paths to do that. This in no way hindered our experience or took away from the lovely cottage and itâs beautiful surroundings.

Whilst the property is in an excellent position and the views from the lounge dinning/kitchen area are wonderful the other parts of the property somewhat fall short.
The house looks tired and in need of a redecoration, the twin bedroom on the first floor, the paint work on the walls are marked and looked grubby. The small single bedroom didn't actually work for us, the window wall and window was showing signs of mould. And It wasn't possible to leave the window open in the room as the fumes and smell of oil was coming in!our son that who was supposedly staying couldn't stay in the room and slept in the lounge! The spa shower in the bath didn't work. The toilet on the third floor wasn't really suitable unless you were under 4,6 feet in hight,or you were a contortionist and didn't mind burning your head on the ceiling light. The staircase up to the third floor in my opinion was a bit dodgy, it has a single hand rail on one side which wasn't the issue. However the stair riser on the left hand side purtrudes above the floor level and is a trip hazard. As I said previously, the position of the property and the views from the lounge are excellent, but the rest of the property let's it down.

First and foremost, the location of this property was perfection for us; Fantastic views, proximity to shops & restaurants (1minute+) and great walks from the door.
For that reason we would definitely return. Would-be renters should however, be aware that this property is on three floors and if mobility is in any way an issue, the stairs to the top floor (King-size bed) could be challenging. Also, you are two floors up from all the other bedrooms! We have teenage kids so they were happy for the space!! The property is generally well equipped although there were no books/games/puzzles (that we could find?) for rainy days. Property was really cold when we arrived but quickly warmed up with easy-to-use thermostat. Be really careful with the garage door buttons; our son accidentally pressed the large square button to the left of the light switches in the garage and hit our car parked outside! Not the greatest start to the holiday but no real harm done! Overall we really liked this property as the small negatives were vastly outweighed by positives. We hope to return again soon :))

The location is great.
The property is however lacking. It is not well furnished, very tired in appearance. The main issue was the cold as storage heaters and an open fire were the methods of heating and weren't adequate for the winter. On first entering these were turned off and it was freezing. We never managed to get the property warmed up, despite the keeping the fire burning the whole time. Coal is not provided. We wore coats in the evening and clothes in bed. The hot water tank was limited in size so we had to share the bath water. The bed was rather saggy and squeaked everytime you turned over. I however understand electric portable radiators and blankets can be borrowed on request. We actually left after 2 days and rented somewhere warm for the same price.
